Logic has always been part of the education of the clergy, in fact the majority of students of logic at places like Oxford in the past was those studying to become clergy, and also many of the books about logic are by clergy (Isaac Watts, Richard Whately). The Scholastic tradition was about reconciling Aristotelian logic and Christianity, which produced Summa Theologica etc, this was done by monks.
