The problem is, if there's a system capable of maintaining such a state en masse and indefinitely, not by artificially plunging people into a happy plant state, but by providing complex conditions, like a "matrix," then if this is voluntary, it indicates a vast amount of available resources for other things, allowing for many things to be done in reality... for example, as already demonstrated in one game, while "humanity" exists in virtual reality, one can build a swarm/Dyson sphere, and so on...So, aren't these sufficient incentives, albeit not always, to perform interesting actions in reality?
