Wednesday night's Powerball drawing had two jackpot winners. There were also 89 second place winners, 27 of which bought the "powerplay" and won two million dollars, with the remaining 62 winning one million dollars. The odds of winning the second place prize are 11,688,000:1. The total ticket sales were around twenty million tickets so about one in 250k tickets beat those odds to win a million or two. I find this to be just a bit uncanny. Any one here have any ideas on why such an improbable event occurred? Planets aligned? Divine intervention?
>>42330611It's rigged
The numbers that were drawn don’t seem to have any pattern or significance or reason that many people would pick those same digits. Maybe it’s another case of fortune cookies getting it right?
>>42330618If it's rigged why did they give away an extra $120million?
>>42330648Maybe the fortune cookie is the explanation, would have to see how many tickets were quick picks and how many were self selected by the player.

>>42330611you couldnt have told me this on tuesday?
>>42331059It's not like i knew the numbers on Tuesday, Anon. Just pointing out how unusual it is to have 89 second place winners. The average number is like one or two. Often it's zero.

>>42330611Yeah this is not normal.
>>42331289Indiana and New Jersey are really outliers from the already outliers. >>42330611What would you push> red button Win the jackpot of 100+ million but more likely to get caught > blue button Win the second prize of only a million but more likely to not get caught
What were the numbers?
