God doesnt have a master plan and isnt a dude writing out what happens because thats fucking boring. The material world is the equivilant of a rogue lite video game with heavy RNG mechanics with influence of the astral world. Your "character" is randomly generated from the DNA and all prior choices of all your ancestors working together in weird unexpected ways, sometimes with crazy buffs and sometimes game breaking glitches. Then next time the spirit enters the material plane it gets a nice reroll of stats. Free will and random chance exists to make the "game" more fun for the players, who exist outside time and get to experience liner time with unexpected shenanigans good and bad.
