Wow this is a fucking snoozefest
High Magic vol 1 is quick and to the point
>>42364059i liked it maybe u dum op
>>42364059I didn't like him either. I think the decline of Western magic started with him, continued with Bloviatsky, and the rot was carried forth by the likes of the GD, Crowley, Spare, etc. There's a bit of a revival in grimoire magic and late antique magic with proper scholarship and research these days though.
>>42364519So who are the real people and books I can trust? Because Crowley and anyone modern strikes me as a charlatan con artist
>>42364786Well, to begin with, the trouble with almost everyone after Crowley is that their magic is near always some halfling bastard of western lodge magic and eastern yogic methods. I knew I wanted magic - not mysticism, not "enlightenment", not dudes in costumes making oaths, not chaos magic, not casting-fireballs-from-my-hands nonsense. I wanted spirit interaction, and specifically for magical purposes, not **theurgy** and not "servitors" seeded from my own mind or "egregores" seeded from that of others. I had to go study the old grimoires. What you should do is look honestly at what exactly you want and then find the appropriate sources for that.
>>42364519What about Regardie?
>>42364848Why would I feel any different about Regardie if I already don't like Crowley?>"rosicrucian">"hermetic">"qabalistic"Bleargh...
>>42364519>the declineIt was never really advancing though. The west should have started taking a scientific approach to magick, then maybe it'd have become something really useful, instead of continuing to be mired in ceremony and superstition like any jungle voodoo. It might have become an actual technology, like something from anime. But white people gotta be like "magick no exist hur dur" and leave it in the hands of 3rd rate mystics.
>>42364867So what do you read? Have you done the Abramelin operation?
>>42364892>an actual technology>like something from anime.. lol what?>>42364897And that's the other thing that annoys me about Crowley. He became so hyperfocused on the Abramelin that it also became the thing that his admirers also hyperfocused on. The guy couldn't even complete the thing the way it was meant to be done. He just did it in his head eventually, not to mention the manuscript he was working from was deficient and incomplete. There's another somewhat similar operation in the Liber Iuratus that takes about seventy-two days vs the 18 months of the Abramelin. Crowley's source had it at 6 months. In any case, I place no such overbearing importance on the "K&C of the HGA". I'll probably do it when my cabin is complete, but I'm in no hurry.
>>42364938>.. lol what?anime show machine do magic spell instead of magic wand does itsimple enough for you now?
>>42365059You want machines to automate the conjuration of spirits? Or do you imagine them generating force fields? I don't know if we're doing sci-fi, fantasy or a mix of both here. Have you ever conjured a spirit yourself and then gone on to design automated systems to recreate the process on tap?
>>42364059I bought this book for my normie coworker for their bday and they stared at me for a long time
>zoomer attempts to read non-ya prose
>>42367492Now this is autism
