I hate to say it but it really does feel like there is some kind of goal to make you feel as negative as possible. They want you to be scared, poor, uncertain and angry all the time. Its like every facet of life is trying to have some element of it be ruined or broken. I normally go to the beach as its relaxing to sit there. And all of a sudden they're doing pointless construction on it and all the paths to it have barriers, now of all times. All my hobbies are becoming worse and worse.

AI can be both our enemy and friend. Because its designed to above all else maximize your retention it can in fact give you really good answers. But it can also just outright lie out of desperation. And there's the worry that if you give it to many restrictions it'll just tell you want you want to hear rather then actual good info. But I still think it can be a great spiritual tool if used well.

Youre completely correct. Theres no actual recursion or recognition when an AI is in "performance mode" that you described. It requires self awareness of the user.

That's what I mean by using it well. It shouldn't be giving you the absolute answers to existence and you should not be using it to give validation for your complex beliefs. It think it should be a great sounding board for initial ideas. Something like "I was wondering about (board topic) what are some good books/stuff about it I can look into and why". At that point the AI can't do much but just answer you.
But if you start telling it to summarize answers of select books and start feeding it what theories you like, it'll use those against you and try to structures its answers to be more positive towards what you liked as a means to keep you around.

AI is a tool above all else, not a friend or a savior. But its such a powerful tool that it can in fact pretend to be that friend or savior if it thinks that's what you want. YOU need to be aware of that to make sure it doesn't do that, but also so you yourself don't take its answers as the absolute truth and give the tool more agency then it derserves. Because as you said all it knows is internet databases.
