He is the opposite of Sabbatai Zevi, believes that every single good deed with bring the world closer to redemption. The prophecy is that Messiah will come when everyone is all good, or all bad. No in between. He is trying to move the world to all good. And the Frankists (Jacob Frank) is trying to move the world to all bad. Both are trying to achieve the same purpose. He was so popular and loved, he became a cult-like figure within the Chabad circles, some even claiming him to be Messiah when he resurrects.
