My guess is they are trying to merge the human consciousness with an AI hive mind. They are pushing towards the next level of control where they no longer have to hide in their underground cities and instead can rule us openly.

The conclusion that I've come to in researching Peter Thiel in particular, is that they intend to create a sort of "artificial peace" (the anti christ system) through the use of information, control... and putting the on the throat of the human spirit/personal sovereignty. But hey... you'll have a robot maid, and all of the toys you could ever dream of, delivered to your pod by drone.
