I feel like the only way to reproduce the original is to buy Dicyanin A ((2Z)-1-ethyl-2-[(E)-3-(1-ethylquinolin-1-ium-4-yl)prop-2-enylidene]quinoline;iodide), make glasses out of two panes of glass, and experiment filling the glasses with different concentrations of the solution. The only problem is the substance is "For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use. " I doubt a chemical supplier would even bother emailing you back if you tried to buy it.
