When I am not distract or focused my mind is flooded with memories and fantasies. I can't sleep at night because of the stream of though, and lately they've been making me cry so I have to get up and blow my nose. 3-4 drinks of alcohol completely severs the connection. Is this some kind of demon that has attached itself to me?

Avoid triggers like emotional music, redirect to your senses with a heat pad or soothing touch, and reciting prayer helps a lot. Maladaptive daydreaming creates a reward, so realize it's a loop. Utilize that time to think about upcoming actions and planning. Give yourself stuff to think about.Learning to sit with it and refusing to engage with it helps, don't let yourself go down the rabbit hole. Some people allow time to do it, try that, but you're training yourself to partake. Deep breathes and comforting ambience helps. Lots of exercise gets sleep to come easier.Have confidence and take action, making changes as needed. Sorry you're going through it.
