>be 12>at the beach with dozen friends>cant swim because of recent ear operation>gets bored watching friends, decides to climb a 150ft cliff instead>because thats a great idea>climbs it with ease>gets to the top expecting a flat ledge to stand on like picrel>its a 45 degree bank of sand for 50 metres upwards>no rocks, grass, anything. just sand>tries to crawl up it, slips immediately>cant go left, cant go right, cant go down>turns and lays flat on my back and tries pull myself up backwards>its working>gets 20 meters up the bank looking out at the sea>what a view>sand gives way.jpg>starts sliding towards the edge of the cliif on my butt>nothing to grab onto but sand>feet go over the edge>about to fall 150ft onto jaggedy rocks >sees my life flash before my eyes>friends, family, dogs, teachers, flashing past my view like photographs>blindly reaches out my right hand and grabs the ONLY tuft of grass on the entire cliff edge>manages to regain balance>finds a route along the right and off the damn cliff>used to wake up every morning and the first thing id say would be, "thank you grass"... years later.... tbc
