In a stressful spot with work, and just had a weird stress dream about disappointing my father
Common sense tells me it's also a fear of disappointing my boss at work / myself etc etc
Is there an /x/ approved way of stopping it now that I've got the message - or confirming that it actually is the message?

Yours sounds like an encouraging dream, something good to live up to, even if you don't want to. Do you think you can make her proud or does that feel unfair?
Mine was that there was a football game and it was just my Dad vs an entire team who were clearly going to win, and he tricked me to come down and see it and then tried to guilt me into playing - I refused but felt really guilty

she told me as such several times. I used to get medals in the mail from the military after I left and she thought it was the best thing ever. they only came so late because of admin slugs and stuff, but once a year for about 3 years she would get a new medal in the mail that I got for doing something.

people have difficulty expressing themselves. your dream version of him probably expresses himself the same way you remember him. remember dreams are symbolic- it isn't him playing a sport against the entire team, it is your father fighting against the entire world to keep you safe from them.

he wasn't guilting you into playing, he was expressing that he needs your help on the team and that it is your turn to protect yourself, the family, your children, etc... in a fatherly way. maybe he didn't appear to you in a dream and sit you down in front of a fireplace and have a sophisticated discussion. maybe he felt the experience of that dream, seeing him fight so hard against overwhelming odds just to put food in you, a roof over you, and all those other things.

no wonder you feel guilty for refusing. you are supposed to. you are also supposed to understand what he was communicating to you in his own way.

man up and get on the team. he believes in you. even came to you in a dream to tell you. if he never did it in real life, appreciate that he does it in a dream.

You can't make a parent proud, if that parent could be proud about you, they'd already be. If they're not, they can't be.

I think you're on the right track, anon. I think your common sense tingles correctly. If you want to dig deeper into that, you might try some of the lucid dream techniques, people and situations get substituted in dreams, but once you learn to spot those substitutions, you can learn a lot about yourself and find help in navigating many situations.

Father disappointed means you’re not living up to your highest path, he represents your highest self
I learned that from reading Carl Jung
