He was able to focus on his studies and got the most academic awards in our grad class. If I was honest about each incident that was going on (I know we’re focused on one, yet there’s a collection of issues), he’d have easily spiraled and his future could’ve very well played out differently.He’s also the type that would’ve taken matters into his own hands, instead of trusting my process of handling conflict. The last thing I needed was for him to go berserk on everyone around us. When I’d even slightly hint at a problem I had with someone, particular with guys, his mind would go straight to violence or I’d be worried that he’d start screaming at my family — the people I was unfortunately dependent on — over their bullshit. I had constantly try to keep things cool and redirect him from spontaneously combusting over his sense of justice.The only reason I’d tell him is if I’d want to build a closer bond again and think he’s mature enough now to handle things calmly. I don’t have many friends either, a few good ones are all that matters and he did care a lot.
