If you don't understand the Kybalion you need to start with the Tao te Ching.

If you don't understand the Tao te Ching you need more life experiences.
>>
>>42858340
Funny how the panpsychics and idelists here don't even talk about the implications of their own ideas beyond human interest. It's just ALL IS MIND = I CAN MANIPULATE REALITY WITH MUH MIND and other similar anthropocentric nonsense. It's materialism with extra magickckckcal steps.

Where are the discussions about value and ethics? If rocks are conscious, can they suffer? What ethical obligations do we have to rocks?

I'm not a panpsychist but in my philosophy aconscious organisms and nonliving things have value and demand ethical consideration. The matter and energy in this rock has 14 billion years of history. If I am to modify and use it, does it add to its history in a way that elevates beauty? Such questions are impermissible in the modern world which is based on mmindless exploitation and consumption of nature. My ethics is very similar to what an honest panpsychist ethics would be, except without the requirement of consciousness to have value.

>If rocks are conscious, can they suffer? What ethical obligations do we have to rocks?
Mind is of the spirit, and spirit is of the soul. All souls must be respected and not tortured, because yes, the rock absolutely can be tormented. Dolls and idols have been made for this exact purpose in dark ritual. The obligation is simply to allow the soul of the mind to Be. If one disturbs the soul for no reason they've spread malice into the world and will be attributed to the sin of vileness for dwelling God's garden.

This is a generalized understanding of western occult metaphysics which happens to be guided by Hermeticism. It doesn't serve to capture all the depth of herme's teachings nor does it really intend to.

The writing is meant to be very simple and accessible and only requires a sixth grade reading level. Your little niece would be able to understand it. Not sure how you can have trouble with that. Is there any internalized dogma that may be holding you back?
>>
>>42856642
Some INCREDIBLY USEFUL shit.
And a whole lot of schizo rambling that means nothing.

The main things are the hermetic principles after that it is worthless.

>>42859770

i second this post. but id like to point out, that even though it is an entry point, and viewed as pedestrian, to master the seven principles, could in theory, take a lifetime. not everything has to be a thesaurus ridden passage, rife with dense text. infact, i find, the deeper you go, the simpler it can be sometimes. like that famous lecture where buddha simply holds up a lotus flower.

now, im not writing off any other books, but if you dont get this one, then guaranteed, you will not understand the deeper meanings of other, more advanced books. like, the tao.

once you begin to see the seven principles everywhere, and truly understands the way it governs our existence, thats when it begins for you. those strange philosophical questions, wont seem so strange anymore. imho, this is the point, where language becomes inert.

>>
>>42864226
>revisionist
>barely any hermeticism
the entirety of book 2 is a translation of the Corpus Hermeticum, and book 3 is translations of basically any fragment or excerpt concerning Hermes and Hermeticism throughout history. If you want to discount the first 300 pages of Mead's writings (which you shouldn't), fine, but almost 500 of it's 800 pages is strictly on Hermes and Hermeticism. To say it has "barely any hermeticism" just shows you're a clueless larper with nothing of value to say.
>>
>>42864318

what i meant was, theres a difference in what some people see as thoth hermes trismegistus. i prefer the egyptian interpretation, which predates christianity. as far as i can see, the ones that merge hermeticism with christianity, sort of take it on a tangent. thats why, as someone else stated, whats in the kybalion isnt mentioned in corpus hermeticum. so far scanning through volume one, its mostly fluff.
>>
>>42856642

Same dude, same sort of bullshit.

Atkinson was a prolific commercial writer and Chicago lawyer who churned out dozens of tracts under a carousel of pseudonyms tailored for the burgeoning American "New Thought" self-help market. It wasn't written as an esoteric breakthrough; it was written to sell copies to turn-of-the-century optimists looking for mental hacks.

Real occult researchers who attempt to bridge science and esotericism generally wrestle with contemporary physics, geometry, or chemistry, even when they-fall into error. They engage with extant manuscripts, linguistic lineages, and historical philology. This book invents a fake pedigree, attributing its wisdom to "Hermes Trismegistus" via a nonexistent ancient text.

It mimics the vocabulary of 19th-century electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and early psychology ("vibration," "polarity," "rhythm"), but strips them of any empirical framework. It uses scientific-sounding terminology purely as a rhetorical smokescreen to make generalized self-help adages sound cosmic.

Just as dodgy as Grimorium Verum, the Enochian language, and more.

Charlatans abound.
>>
>>42865677

regardless of who repackaged it for modern society, these ideas have persisted throughout the ages.
>>
What's the deal with Hermeticism and why do people follow it? There's a strong current on the board for it. The basic principles in The Kybalion are good but you don't need to attach it to any religious/spiritual framework you know.

The content is highly relevant if you possess the intellect to understand it. guys, theres no need to try to convince people of the merit of the book, if they dont understand it. they probably think alchemy is a literal transmutation of metals. the reason people talk about pearls before swine, is because too much information to people who are not ready, can be harmful to them. pushing it on them, will only cause them to push back harder. were not helping anyone by forcing this. theyll just stick their head deeper into the sand. i know, because i was once one of them.

this is not the path for everyone. there needs to be secondary characters, and extras, to support the main cast, though all parts are equally important. actually, in some of the best stories, its the secondary characters, that make the biggest differences (think samwise gamgee). true alchemists, know energy, and what happens when you use it wrong.

if you want to learn, maybe try not being a dick. no one is hiding anything from anyone. infact, this thread has plenty of people trying to recommend it. the hermetic principles are often mentioned on these boards. i often reference it, and fully explain the meanings myself. asking someone to "explain themselves" is a rather large task. dont believe me? ok, explain everything you know about science. now. do it. cmon, redpill me on science. oh, youre not gonna explain everything to me? youre hiding things! youre a hylic!

you honestly expect people to sit here, and hold your hand, and explain the deeper meanings of the kybalion? it takes a lot of contemplation, and the more important lessons, are beyond words. even if you ask specific questions instead of childishly expecting us to explain ourselves, why should i take the time, while youre being a little brat? obviously you can read, since youre here on a forum. maybe, pick up a book, instead of reading larpy edgelord crap. youll spend time reading 4chan, and being a troll, but wont read a book to educate yourself.

you see that plenty of other people enjoy this book, and are getting something out of it. youve probably also noticed, that more advanced people all seem to know this book. but either you dont understand it, or havent even tried. so instead, you throw tantrums on 4chan.

When I say advanced I didn't mean magically advanced. I meant it in regards to its ability to be comprehended when read. I think an average 10th grader would be able to get it given proper time. I read fiction mostly but if you want something suitably challenging try Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe.
