Is there an official YouTube channel to watch this from?
>>
>>192354
Yes!

K-1: https://youtube.com/@k1wgp_pr

RISE: https://youtube.com/@riseontv

RISE only has japanese commentary. K-1 has english and japanese. If you want the japanese commentary you have to search the fighters' japanese names though. You can also navigate through K-1's own website (k-1.co.jp) if you go to a fighters page there will be youtube links to their fights.

Also that clip is from this fight: https://youtu.be/2M9fVnFNj7o

Because the scoring criteria is different in J-kick.

J-kick scores punches, kicks, elbows, and knees equally while in MT, punches and low kicks don't score as well as high kicks, control in the clinch, and knees/elbows.

People think J-kick doesn't clinch or neck-wrestle; that's patently false. Ever since 1966, the Japanese extensively utilized clinch with elbows and knees. Nowhere near as refined and technical as the Thais do, but if you look at historical footage of All Japan Kick Boxing Association and Japan Kick Boxing Association , they do chap koh too.
>>
I still don't get how they just get in head to head like that. My boxing is shit so I would rather stay in the long hook range than intimate like that. If it ever gets tight I'd fall into the clinch to wait for ref break
>>
>>192677
Sometimes you just have to bang,I don't remember but there's a dutch kickboxing drill where you go head to head and spar in just that range without clinching. Also work your borxing bro

Is there a Japanese kickboxing league? Or is 'Japanese kickboxing' just about the style of fighting of Japanese fighters?
>>
>>197182
Japanese Kickboxing refers to the sport that was created in 1966 after exposure to Muay Thai and combining it with Karate & Kenpo with Western boxing. It's why in the 60's and 70's you saw Japanese kickboxers (many of them were ex-karateka) do stuff like spinning hook kicks and jumping kicks while simultaneously throwing hard cut kicks to thighs and calves, clinching with elbows and knees. The Japanese incorporated the Southeast Asian style of full torque and twist of hips to generate power instead of chambering kicks (which they normally did for control).

As for Japanese Kickboxing, these are the major organizations:

New Japan Kickboxing Federation. It allows all the arsenal of Muay Thai techniques but with different scoring criteria as mentioned here >>192508. The rounds are the same as Muay Thai and the timing.

https://www.youtube.com/user/njkfjapan

Then there's Shin Nihon Kickboxing Association. They're the other big Kickboxing organization and NJKF's rival. They have similar scoring criteria but they only have 3 rounds instead of 5 from the last I heard.

RISE and K-1 Japan that >>192421 mentioned are other venues. There was also Krush which used to be a feeder system for Japanese kickboxers to go into the major leagues.
>>

Shishido's beaten Nak Muays before, it's just that Buakaw's high caliber and very few can beat him.

Besides Sato nailed Buakaw with a knee to the gut and knocked out; something Souwer and Masato were never able to do.
>>
Don't like it. All they do is shell up and brute forward until gloves touch then start banging and counter. Not fun to watch. There's a reason tenshin exploited them all
>>
>>191052
whenever i try shit like this nothing happens.... amazing stuff tho love Yoza
>>
>>190582

>>
Are there any noteworthy japanese kickboxers in higher weight classes?
>>
I think there is a flaw, not sure if fundamental of sort in the style that let Tenshin clown on them. Yes yes I know Tenshin is incredible and high fight IQ, but he used that IQ to exploit people
>>
>>197377
>>197556
>Tenshin the J-Kickboxer beat other J-Kickboxers
>this means J-Kickboxing is flawed
???
>>
>>197377
You have not witnessed the transformation of Toki Tamaru
>>
>>197557
A dutchman doing muay thai is not necessarily dutch style. Tenshin developed his own style early. He moves around a lot more than the rest.
It's japanese style to relentlessly pressure forward
>>
>>197691
Tenshin also beat elite muay thai fighters, mma fighters, and boxers. Does that mean muay thai, MMA, and boxing all have fundamental flaws that he exploited?
>>
Muay Thai better
>>
>>197711
Of course MT is the GOAT striking style compared to Japanese kickboxing. But you can't dismiss it when it has a rich history of competition against Muay Thai (which is why it was developed) and how it spawned Kickboxing and Muay Thai directly and indirectly in Europe (particularly Netherlands, France, and Italy).
>>
>>197710
The forward pressure is stuffed by clinchers and angle cutting. Evrything has flaws but i don't like these flaws

I somehow forgot to mention Tenshin and Takeru. They fought each other in 2022 in one of the biggest kickboxing fights ever. Takeru came into the fight with a win streak going back to 2012 (the loss in 2012 was mostly due to a bad ref). And Tenshin came in with an undefeated 43-0 record. This event filled the Tokyo Dome (56000 people) and the gate was (allegedly) 25 million usd, in a sport where the pay is infamously pretty bad. A bit weird but both guys also have really cool nicknames, Takeru "Natural Born Crusher" and Tenshin "The strongest high schooler".

Anyway the event was called THE MATCH 2022, and they stacked the card with all the best fighters, most of whom i have linked or mentioned previously.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenshin_Nasukawa_vs._Takeru link to the fight card if you want to see it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9h-3KvBRww

The fight was cool but for some reason they made the biggest fight in the sports history a 3-rounder.

The fuck are you talking about? Japan was the first nation to compete against Muay Thai and they've had several fighters ranked in Lumpini and Rajadamner rankings like Toshio Fujiwara, Mitsuo Shima, Igari Genshu, and Yasuo Tabata. Fujiwara was the 1st foreigner to win a stadium title (Rajadamnern lightweight) while Shima won a world MT title in bantamweight that Thailand hosted in the early 70's. Japan has more stadium titles than any other country; only France comes close. And plenty of Japanese have also won WMC, WPMF, and WBC Muay Thai belts too.

Kickboxers are a different breed. Fighting their guts out in all-action fights and getting paid pennies for it
>>
>>212543
Marat and Sitthichai are both very past their prime. p4p mean nothing especially Beyond Kicks rankings, they keep moving Rico up despite doing nothing and Shiro doesn't get a spot for beating a p4p holder. BK rankings are pointless. There are some really promising fighters coming up in 70kg but at the moment 53 is way more competitive because everyone is still young and in their prime
>>
>>212829
Sitthichai is old man now but Marat still has it. Shiro just won but he hasn't fought division top dog kaneko just yet. Rico went up because Toki Tamaru lost his place. Tbh I hate heavyweights now too. I ignore every p4p ranking above 80kg. I'm watching the Chinese guys and what business does Tawanchai have in the top 10 for the division, all he did was fight eternal competitor Jo Nattawut to 2 very close decisions. 53kg division isn't strong p4p because their are 3 potential champs for every belt, can't be p4p top dog when you can't even dominate your division.
>>
>>213105
Based take on anything over 80kg.
I think 53kg fighters should be ranked higher precisely because they can't dominate the division. I think it shows how strong the division is that there isn't a 100% clear number one. Maybe I'm also partial to the traditional meaning of p4p rather than it being a ranking of accomplishments

J-kick aficionado here

It's gonna be close to impossible to find the 60's, 70's, and 80's footage of All Japan Kick Boxing Association and Japan Kick Boxing Association as well as lesser organizations. There's a huge mess over who owns the distribution rights. You're best bet is to find individual fighters like Toshio Fujiwara or Igari Genshu.

Youtube has some 90's and 00's footage of All Japan Kickboxing Federation (the reincarnation of All Japan Kick Boxing Association) and Shin (means new in Japanese) Nihon Kickboxing Association (the resurrection of the old Japan Kick Boxing Association. Just look them up with their full names or acronyms (AJKF, SNKA) and you'll find footage.

Let's throw him to Grigorian next, two different style of pressure clashing. Sad that Chinga left ONE FC just when chatri brought in some competitors for him

Too much horsemeat, can't go back to 65kg. And ONE FC supposedly has test in place that makes water cut harder so everyone fights slightly heavier than they did before.
60-70kg are still the best divisions. Wide pool of competitors, speedy and power

I like these new gen fighters having these tricky kicks compared to their predecessors. J-kick had too many guys stick to meat-and-potatoes low kick-punch with the occasional elbow or knee. Only a few guys were technicians with kicks to the body and head.

>>

The Iraqi used to fight at 77kg so Noiri will probably get smashed against the ropes again. I think he might be washed because I swear he didn't used to just stand glove to glove with his opponents before like 2022. Maybe he just needs to drop down to 65kg again. I don't think he will ever find real success at 70kg.

Tawanchai murdered Superbon. Noiri doesn't stand a chance.
>>
>>222194
Noiri is better than his recent run indicates, but he's not great for the weight class and he's going up against an absolute killer. It doesn't look good for him.
>>
>>222194
I think Tawanchai will rightfully be a sizeable favorite. His teep will probably be very difficult to deal with. On the other hand, Tawanchai has looked very mid against worse fighters than Noiri (Joe Nattawut). Tawanchai has also had problems with being pressured under the kickboxing ruleset. That chinese guy finished him. That being said Noiri is still far too small for the weight. I favor Tawanchai but I don't think it's a gimme, Noiri has paths to victory but the cards are stacked against him.
>>
>>222152
You can't treat ONE like a serious promotion. Their matchmaking is entirely based on the whims of Chatri. Marat also looked bad in his past few fights so I think Kaito has a decent chance.

Akimoto demoted to "bum" ranking to fight Brazilian MMA guy, sad.
He looked sharp technically but doesn't adapt well.
>>
>>223602
Akimoto is unfortunately getting a bit old. Even though he's 32, he came up through the koshien in his teen years, and if he trains like all the other japanese fighters, he's leaving most of his braincells in the gym.
>>
>>223661
He stopped pro kickboxing at 21 to fight kyokushin, spent 5 years, curiously. Then he trains at evolve mma ever since.
Very crisp, his camp prepares him well but the corner fails to instruct him for mid fight adjustments, or he's not the type to adapt well
>>
>>223691
"the corner fails to instruct him for mid fight adjustments, or he's not the type to adapt well"

Very true. That seems to be fairly prevalent in japanese fighters. I don't know how they train but it seems to me like they don't prepare as well as they perhaps could, in terms of specific opponents.
>>
>>223730
Evolve is in Singapore it's Chatri's gym. His coach is a retired Dutch MMA fighter, I think it's just his problem specifically

All Thais are literally steroid cheats. Roids are legal and cheap in Thailand and they don't test for them at the stadiums. When that one Thai was busted for them in One he straight up admitted it was the norm for Thai fighters to take steroids "for injuries."
>>
>>226926
jkick is literally ran by the yakuza. all combat sports on that island have been. you can go watch interviews of wanderlei silva talking about getting threatened at gunpoint in his hotel room. the first pride president was murdered by the yakuza. but i doubt japanese fighters would ever go so far as to use steroids though. k1 didn't even test for steroids until 2023. even the most "traditional" japanese combat sport Sumo is full of roid cheats, look at Tochinoshin in his prime. japs don't give a fuck about steroids so it's funny you say it like it's a bad thing anyways

Why is there this shit-flinging between Muay Thai fans and Japanese Kickboxing fans?

The Thais actually respect their Japanese opponents and vice-versa. There's been decades of competition between them since the 1960's. Japan is the strongest Muay Thai nation outside of Thailand though France is a close second. More Japanese have won stadium titles than any other farangs. Japanese have trained at Muay camps and brought over Thai trainers. The legendary Chamuekpet Hapalang (who won NINE stadium belts) lives in Japan. Even Dieselnoi trained a lot of fighters in Japan and his family lives there.

Japanese Kickboxing was created to compete against Muay Thai by incorporating elements of its fighting style along with Western boxing + karate/kenpo. A Japanese kickboxer defeating a Thai fighter just reaffirms that the Southeast Asian style of full hip swing when kicking as well as clinching with knees is king of stand-up.

Yoza got a hard fight there, the only clear win round was round 2. He was fighting the dagestan version of allazov, a bit stiffer, a bit less on the leg and unwilling to work while stepping back. The leg kicks and his weird lean back body kick paid dividends tho, couldn't read the target to block. At the start of R3 I thought that Yoza had him in his bag for a big shot but not really he did not want to trade hands.
Siasarani looked like he read the future, he stood still at 2:14 R1, menacingly, lmao. Great muay femur southpaw style like Sitthichai. Kaito turned it up a notch in R3 but a little too late, Siasarani has a great chin and incredible eyes he's not getting that last round KO.

Rise WS review by anon (with heavy spoilers)

Reiji is really good. Defense on point. He was landing better shots the whole time and looked sharp until that left hook shut his whole body down at the end of the 1st. While he was scoring more it felt like Kato was just waiting for a good opportunity to throw heavy shots, which he eventually found. Kato won the round based on last few seconds. In the second he landed another left hook, this time as a counter, to end the fight instantly. Beautiful match by two exciting skilled fighters.

Chappy vs Abiko
Goofy meme fight, fun but low level

Yuki vs Kitai
Mummified yuki following around the ring and getting countered. Discovered back leg low kicks in the 3rd.

Suzuki vs Toita
Suzuki outbrawled and was always feel steps ahead of Toita both in shot selection and number of landed strikes. Very good performance despite getting rocked in the 3rd he recovered instantly and continued to dominate lol. Is he at 57kg now?

Gump vs Ryo
Gump brought pressure and excitement

Hanaoka vs Ghazali
Started off competitive with the first round but by the end of the fight Hanaoka was teeing off in the pocket, especially with right hook to the body. Awesome combinations later on and cool spinning back kick. Hope we finally see him against Osaki this year.

Will continue watching the rest of the card later

Finished rise, more spoilers review etc etc

Kan vs Yuki
I first watched it live when I just woke up and had no idea who was winning so it wasn't a surprise it went to extra round. Rewatching however I'm pretty sure yuki did enough to win tho kan came back strong at the end of each round. I liked yuki's distance control, mix of front and calf kicks and later on good knees to the body and head, also great body attack in general with some powerful hooks and good combination work. Kan still had success throughout and none of that matters because the finish was so spectacular and most kan thing ever lol. 10/10 fight, easily most enjoyable fight of the night.

Hyuma vs Pengjie
Not much output from either but I always liked the Pengjie style: tall and long, really slick southpaw counters. Not nearly as good as his previous win over Rida but he avanged his loss and the kd sealed the win. I hope kan beats him again but it will be tough (again). Can't wait.

Bobo v Jan
Jan did better than I expected, he had a good gameplan with inside low kicks but one small problem: the fucking reach on bobo lmao. He got touched up ever time with hands and took more damage but gave a good account of himself. Funny moment of the night: complaining about oblique kicks (twice) and kd too

Ass vs. Spain
Great fight, very exciting I didn't know Spain but both are really good. Underwhelming name value in the tournament so far.

Hiroki v Lompetch
Hiroki didn't need to do much to pressurethe other Petch to the ropes and score with fast, powerful combos (kinda how chadd did against him ironically) but petch didn't look helpless, he had success with his southpaw weapons it just wasn't sustained long enough to make a difference.

Morari vs Ito
Typical morari fight, very boring

Ryujin vs Hamada
Watching it live it seemed like Ryujin was going thru the gears better especially when he found some powerful hooks to the body. Just keep him away from momo

I asked Takahagi about the calf kick when I trained in Japan. Mind you, I don't speak japanese, but what I gleamed was that for the outside calf kick, they tend to aim slightly above the ankle bone. He also demonstrated that they will often hit with the instep of the foot.

As far as a proper tutorial, you're probably best off looking for something from a kyokushin guy, since most of them come from some sort of karate background.

Of japan, the only "combat sport" I like is Kendo
Korean TKD is far superior to anything Japan has, full contact wise

How is kickboxing injury wise? I want to stop bjj because i'm tired of having some joints always hurting. I'm not going to compete.
>>
>>236871
I think it depends on what sort of physical shape you're in. In terms of experience I can only speak for myself, I'm in terrible shape and my joints are weak so I get injured fairly often. I suspect if you're in ok shape it's not going to be as much of an issue. I've never grappled to I can't really compare. Most common injuries in kickboxing are generally going to be feet and hands. I think your joints are generally not going to be subjected to as many strange contortions in kickboxing as they are in bjj but they will see more impact.

>Korean TKD is far superior to anything Japan has, full contact wise
Korean-American here. You're full of shit. TKD has nowhere near the history and victories that Japanese Kickboxing and Knockdown Karate has accomplished. TKD and Tang Soo Do has some nifty kicks, but unless you're Steve Vick, Serkan Yilmaz, or Hassan Kassrioui, who were blessed with talent and athletic ability to keep spamming those kinds of high-flying attacks. It's better to stick to fundamentals and then sprinkle in flashy moves.

Japanese Kickboxing and Knockdown Karate constantly evolves and refines itself since the 1960's when they adapted from Muay Thai. Then they encountered US Full-Contact Karate (long-pants US Kickboxing) in the 1970's, then Dutch Kickboxing (which in itself is partly derived from Japanese Kickboxing & Knockdown Karate) in the 1980's, Sanshou in the 1990's, and various other fighting styles. The Japanese have their share of losses of course, but they have a respectable track record. They also had the balls to go to Thailand since the 1950's (first Muay Thai vs Karate encounter) and test themselves against the dangerous Southeast Asian style of kicking with shins and clinching with knees/elbows.

Japanese kickboxing follows K1 or modified K1 rules, there are elbows clinching or knees. Some organisations will allow knees out of the clinch but that's it.

I wonder what will it take for gyms outside Japan to start teaching Jkick style stuff. Most gyms just default to dutch style shit from 40 years ago. You'd be lucky to find a gym that teaches good classic muay thai. I guess you're on your own if you wanna move like Nadaka or Yoza
>>
>>238686
is nadaka even j kick? he's just looks like a fast and technical southpaw preferring to stay at range compared to other jap kickboxers who likes pressure and forcing counters. Nadaka even uses his left knee like a thai southpaw to stuff forward boxing pressure, not that he has to use that much his rear kick and left hand down the pipe keeps the range well
>>
>>238695
>is nadaka even j kick
Well, he is J and he kicks...
>>
>>238695
To me his rhythm feels more jkick than thai
>>
>>238718
Dany Bill and Jerome Le Banner are both French but they are nothing alike.
Nadaka trains muay thai his whole life, albeit with a jap flare.
>>
>>238842
Rhythm doesn’t feel anything different to sittichai kick rhythm if he was etherweight. Boxing it’s straight shots, doesn’t commit too much, pull out or angle out like a southpaw

Jkick is really catching on lately. Yoza especially since signing with ONE. That Micah B guy has started stealing some Yoza moves recently. I don't expect you'll find it in many gyms, but certainly more now than a few years ago.

>>238695
I think the fact that Nadaka has good hands in the current era of MT is a sign that he's more jkick than MT. He's also fought in Shootboxing and Rizin

>>238895
If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike. Unlike Sitthichai, Nadaka is able to put on a fun fight and score a finish

His whole life he trains muay thai and fights in the rule set, has 1 fight for rizin. I don’t think his boxing is much better than haggerty. Foreigners in muay thai have been bringing hands into the game for a while. He control angles like petro, just a southpaw game.
Kicking rhythm and selection is the same as sit. Southpaw kicker game. Mfw no calf kick no karate kick no heavy forward pressure with a high guard still j kick

Rise ws, a short review by anon (again)
Osaki vs some Thai
While it didn't start off like a brutal beat down it developed into one not long after and you can add another overmatched opponent to osaki's list of victims. He is doing this instead of fighting hanaoka. Ok.

Hanaoka vs momu
Momu is one of those fighters who instantly finds his range and is looks comfortable right away. Watching him fight can be frustrating because he is clearly capable of more than he shows and while he easily won round 1 he started to slowly melt when Ryu stooped giving ground and stated countering more as he kept up the pressure. Expected but disappointing :(

Seido fight
Though it would be funny if he won and he did some good work like that one really good counter hook in round 1 or 2 but not enough volume. The ancient journeyman win streak is over.

Rasta vs auto
Cool knockout by Rasta who looked really good up until the finish with his movement. Maybe he should get a step up fight

Yura
Quick, impressive ko with a counter right hand. Just how good is taio asahisa?

Saing vs Aasila
Very fun scrap which iirc was quite competitive throughout tho the winner was very much clear

Yutaro asahi vs Spanish guy
Yutaro has one of most unique styles you will see as he is a southpaw mostly using his lead leg to land side kicks and keep the distance. This fight was a bit different and he was landing a lot of hooks and looking for lunch counters. Awesome fight and knockout was spectacular

Wosik vs suarek
Best fight of the card imo, wosik did what he always does and kept that pressure up. Suarek had some success but it wasn't nearly enough. Lovely calf kicks and hard body jabs by wosik. How doesn't he score any knockouts?

Taiju shiratori
The English lad came out fast and soon met a from kick to the body which ended his night. Feed taiju to chadd next as he is one of the few decent japs he didn't already beat

Rise part 2 and beyond
Chadd vs kento
Going in I thought kento would either win by a quick ko (unlikely given how insanely durable chadd is when fighting anyone not named Miguel Trinidad) or it would be a dominant chadd decision (maybe even a late stoppage, either way it would keep getting worse as kento gets more tired). And both of those kinda happened lol. Chadd looked like a fish out of water in round 1 but as soon as round 2 started he looked like the same guy who beat up petch and stopped so many good opponents in recent years. Round 3 was his most dominant round yet one judge scores it 10-10 or 10-9 kento (I forgot) which was crazy incompetent. What a fight. I'm very excited for this featherweight tournament but what is really love is for chadd to rematch petch as I still think he should be the favorite. His style is all wrong for petch just like Miguel seems to be all wrong for him.
On the other hand petch has few option on the glory side of the bracket. We know he won't face peposhi next (although that would be epic) but he could get one of other 2 intriguing match ups: bobo sacko or wosik. Sacko in particular would be a great option given his streak and mt background. I would say wosik would be a horrible match for petch if I didn't see him struggle so much with sacko completely neutralized him albeit with a lot of clinching. Which petch isn't a stranger to and he is equally good if not better at keeping the range so it may be an easy night? But I can still see it being hard due to wosiks pressure and combination work down the stretch

Tenshin 2.0 vs jin
Jin loses to another highly touted fighter but doesn't look out of depth at any point. Closely contested scrap.

Good stuff as always anon

I really hope Ryu gets to fight Kazuki. Kazuki hasn't fought anyone good in a while.
I did think their fights were soured a little by the glove change though.

Kento vs Chadd was incredibly fun, one of the best in a while. Tournament is going to be sick.
