Is rollerblading still alive?
>>
>>217685
Yes, but they are rare these days and I only ever see older dudes doing it.

It's got a niche community coming back but nowhere near what it was like in the 90s and early 2000s.

COVID sorta reinvigorated the sport but it's mainly dudes who used to blade back in the 90s getting back into it

I like near a skating rink and go periodically with my girlfriend.
It seems to have a sizeable audience, I just prefer ice skating though.

Also even as a guy that like figure skating, the skating rinks are a bit gay for me.
>>
My local skating rink has a fairly even split of roller and inline skaters on their adults only night.
>>
yea it is.. seems like everyones a pussy tho and no one throws hammers. they just do shit ass tick tack curb shit to lame toe rolls... wish shima didnt blow his knees out...
>>
I just bought some rollerblades. I haven't rollerbladed in 30 years. I never learned how to stop without a stopper. Thse don't have one
>>

I have no idea if that's a proper technique, but to stop I simply put my feet (slightly spread) at a 90° angle so it converts my energy (?) into one or two spins in a tight circle and I stop.

I would say I mostly see older dudes doing it. When I go to skate parks I've seen a handful of other rollerbladers since I started rollerblading urban. Seen a couple younger women and 2 or 3 other younger guys. If you want to see a lot hit up Wednesday night skate in NY their numbers are around 2-300 every wednesday its pretty crazy

Look up T stopping, I would say that's the best way, really grinds down your wheels I just replace mine every so often
>>
>>233365
Can't do a T-stop to save my life, so I generally use skiing techniques to slow down.
>>
>>229745
Yeah this is a proper method of stopping. At higher speeds though you're gonna wanna be careful to keep your weight low so you don't fall out of your spin backwards
>>
I'm sure it's still out there. But now that I really think about it, the last time I actually saw somebody on rollerblades was probably around 1998 at the very latest.

It just looks stupid. That's a critical problem. There is no way to make it look cool. Similar issue with scooters. Attempts have been and are being made to do scooter contests in street and park style venues. It all looks very difficult to do the elaborate tricks they do. However, this will NEVER be anywhere near as big as skateboarding or BMX due to the aesthetics. Too gay.

rollerblading but cool is called skiing
still gay tho
>>
Can anyone recommend me which inline skates to buy? I want to start learning how to rollerblade.

For some reason in my town in France it's mostly old dudes and black chicks i see rollerblading, but they are a pretty regular presence at the skateparks
>>
>>217685
I have to cut through a weird skate park on my way to town (it's in two parts separated by a public walkway right through the middle, like I say it's weird). You only ever see skateboarders there, but recently there's been some rollerbladers turning up. I have noticed they're never around when the skateboarders are there though and they always look really nervous.

>>237242
It's not just that. With a skateboard you can pick it up and walk about. Trying to walk on rollerblades looks like your trying to walk on ice. It's too cumbersome.
>>
I think inline should focus on it's niche of urban skating(weaving through traffic) and wizard skating. You can do a lot of elaborate legwork. Not the most showy thing compared to tricks skateboarders do, but sliding and dancing through the streets and being a bit of nuisance to the normies sounds fun.

What type of skating do you want to do? For urban skating I'd get an hardboot 4x80 pair like Rollerblade Lightnings or FR Skates FR1
Ride those while you learn then upgrade to an Endless frame (4x90, 4x100) when you're ready to go faster

It's doing well enough for these to drop.
