Anyone remember what it's like to struggle with the feeling of ollieing while moving and wtf do you do about it? Is it literally just grind it out til it feels right? So fucking annoying how I can pop nice, controlled and levelled ollies while stationary or moving slow enough, but once I pick the speed up to anything approaching moderate it throws me off so that I forget all my good posture and timing and end up accidentally rotating or just bailing completely.

I've always done every pop like my life depends on it and I'm not great at controlling the height (always high as possible). Next session will be dedicated to trying smaller pops at speed.

My gf is incredibly amateur (knows how to ride straight and turn pretty well) and she's been helping teaching me how to skate. I started two days ago. We only have one board atm, 7.5" and she took it home to use (it's hers anyways) but we spent about 100 on a second hand board with what she swears by as good trucks, wheels, etc, it's 8.5". Incredibly cringy graphic though on the bottom of the board and I'm lowkey embarrassed to take it out in public. It's like acid trip Beatles or something with supreme stickersAnyways, it's really fun so far. We've been practicing in a half pipe. I still have trouble even going straight or getting my balance on the board at all, I'm super unsteady, but I think the half pipe has been helping since we're basically using it as a way to reach me to bend my knees, as the board rocks slowly between the bends. We're not doing any tricks or anything. I don't intend to practice with that though and just want to try riding around, but the skate parks are constantly filled with BMX kids and adults. I found some empty parking lots though and a basketball court I can practice onI'm having a real hard time though figuring out how to move my feet. I'm okay with foot positioning I think, but when it comes to moving my feet I just can't. I have been able to somewhat manage to turn my front foot, going from straight to angled or fully sideways but I literally cannot figure out how to turn it back from an angle to facing forward, when I go to give myself another push. I know it'll come with practice, but is there a secret? Am I supposed to lift my foot off the board? Do I pivot it with my heel? The balls of my feet? Or something in between? Again, I've no interest in tricks rn, I'm just practicing riding it very basically.I'm 25 and never touched a skateboard as a kid so I have no previous muscle memory or experience. >>232862for me the trick is to do entire switch-only sessions, and actively forbid myself from doing anything regular. during thosei don't usually do long sessions for those, usually just cruising around some spots in my neighborhood for like a half hourpracticing switch while thinking more in term of "i'm going from my house to this place" and then dealing with whatever's in the way feels, to me, like a more interesting thing to practice than being at a skatepark and think "uuuh I guess i'll practice pushing with my other foot?", since there's more of a concrete goal.and also if you keep going back to your usual stance, you don't get to really develop reflexes and a feel for switch, instead you keep comparing it to what you already know. For me, doing it for the whole session really helps me think about goofy as its own stance and not "nollie fakie".
