Will training bjj help me become a better wrestler?? I’m trying to improve wrestling as much as I can any advice?
>>229119>Will learning how to cook fried rice perfectly make me better at baking?
>>229122Well that isn’t really helpful bro
It will do exactly the opposite of what you want Judo will compliment wrestling, bjj will actively hinder it
>>229119My sons BJJ coach is also a high school wrestling coach, so I imagine there is much crossover. Also where he trains is an mma gym and they teach some wrestling stuff. Don't know if this helps though...
>>229122If you didn't know anything about baking learning how to cook fried rice would help you...
>>229119they're wildly different, but you should know both. Sure though, learning bjj is still learning grappling, and thus will make you a bit better at wrestling, but nothing will make you better at wrestling than wrestling. Why can't you wrestle more instead of supplementing with bjj? if you must go the bjj route i'd recommend open mats where you can ask people to start standing up, most bjj guys are happy to.
>>229119Not really - if you want better wrestling, just train wrestlingBJJ is, in a way, just lesser (because it's not the main focus) wrestling + submissions, and you can't do submissions in wrestling, so if wrestling is your focus then what exactly does BJJ give you that just wrestling more would not?
>>229125What can help me be better at doing x, will doing more y help? To get better at x do more x and x related practices. All this magical thinking trying to find easier ways to get better at a thing instead of just applying yourself more. Human trait but hey, use some logic sometimes.
>>229140There’s not really any wrestling around as freestyle is ending. However there is some open mats but it is limited
>>229477Do judo. It's more applicable to wrestling than BJJ.
>>229238>>229140Where am I supposed to learn wrestling as an adult? Everyone says its fundamental here, then when threads about it come up they die with 7 shitposts.
>>231275There are wrestling clubs for adults, but most of them are for guys who were former wrestlers. If you're an adult starting from scratch, you don't have many options. A local community college wrestling team that isn't that competitive might take you in if you're relatively young still (an acquaintance of mine did that to learn wrestling when he was in his early 20s). Otherwise, the next best option is judo or a no-gi BJJ school that specifically takes influences from wrestling.
>>231275You don'tIts only in school and then college if you were very goodJiujitsu isn't actually that popular, it's just the only option for people that want to wrestle as adults
>>231279>>231278i am not sure but in countries with strong wrestling like russia or caucasus there are avialable wrestling clubs for adult beginners so may be there are some clubs in some top wrestling states. and it's not like wrestling is some magic or even that much harder athletically then any striking anyone younger then 25-30's with baseline wrestling institcs can get damn good at it in span of 1-2 years taking practises seriously 3-4 days a week, weightlifting/conditioning and watching some films/youtube video analysing stuff OBVIOUSLY 99.99% that they won't make to the top of the top unless are super freak athlete akin to St. Pierre but they would still able to compete at small scale if there are veteran tournament/age bracket they fit in.
>>229119It will help you more in the off season than if you were to do nothing. As the other Anons said judo may be a better fit and simply wrestling would be best.
>>235544>in countries with strong wrestling like russia or caucasus there are avialable wrestling clubs for adult beginnersWhat a delusion. Wrestling is Olympic sport so no coach is interested in creating club for adults that will not win any medals and don't bring career opportunities for coach.
>>235614I live in Georgia (Sakartvelo) and going to the wrestling club at 22 years old without no prior experience, though i am athletic and did some mma and boxing in youth. It's quite possible to compete and regional or even national level at that age and obviously nobody talks about going to olympics and your take about obvious wrestling being olympic sport is dumbfuck take, cause it means nothing. Boxing is in Olympic program too but there are guys who start it in their middle 20's and compete at world championship level (Ngannou)
>>235616Do chidaoba clubs allow foreigners to train with them?
Adult wrestling is an untapped market, someone should invest
>>235620Chidaoba aka georgian folk wrestling is different beast from the freestyle wrestling i am practising, it's more similar to judo with closes on hence why georgian judo school is so strong. I don't know any places where it's practised but there was some tournament going on few months ago so it's definitely a thing.Currently there are wrestling camps for foreigners organised in my club so you can check it out just google georgian wrestling camps
>>235624Main problem is it's not really a sport everyone can do especially at adult age. There are too many physical requirements and it's pretty injury dence and very tiring overall. You can add up some cardio and strength gradually in other sports but in wrestling you will require it pretty high instantly. You can box without sparring but you can't wrestle without mate and i never heard of half-asses wrestling being a thing and there are no submissions to take fight without exertion of much force. So i can imagine some white collar full time job having Jimmy coming after or before his 8 hour work shift and do some boxing drills beat up some punching bag or roll with another office worker on BJJ but going to wrestling he will be injured, exhausted and beat up in a month
>>235616All your post is dumb. It is not question about what you can train at what age. Yes you can train wrestling at 50+, yes no one expects you become olympic champion. So? How does it changes situation that there is zero freestyle wrestling gyms for adults? Whole 2ch's wrestling general was filled with messages about how anons couldn't find greco roman or freestyle wrestling gym for adult amateurs.>Boxing is in Olympic program tooBecause there always was high demand for boxing classes for adults, much much higher than for wrestling. One reason for that is no one cares about Olympics in boxing, it is professional sport first and foremost and also first thing everyone thinks about in terms of self-defense. Even some pop stars do boxing like Basta, it hard to imagine such people doing wrestling.>obviously nobody talks about going to olympicsYou are not only not going to olympics but you also will not become candidate to master of sports or master of sports, coach will not have you as his coaching achievment and will not get any money from goverment and will get low pension.
>>235624There are very little or no adults beginners doing judo, wrestling would be even worse.
>>235624You can touch punching bag lightly and call it boxing workout. You can go this light on wrsetling, it is much more physically demanding
>>235820You dumb russian snownigger. I repeat. First, live in Sakartvelo, not a Russia. Second, club took me because I already had athletic background. Third, we don't have this soviet system os master sports etc. and funding system in Caucasus is different from what you have at Russia. And at least as it was already stated men my age can participate in wrestling tournament and thereby be competetive wrestler. There is age bracket of "youth 23 and younger" and tournaments for fullgrown adults, veteran tournaments and etc on regional or national level. So you can still be competetive wrestler, though obviously it's not guaranteed you can succeed and it will be hard if you started late, but I have seen dudes with half year experience flawlessly executing things like farmer's carry and laying down flat guys with 2+ year experience who compete in the same weightframe. You actually can even go to international bouts in europe competing with guys in their late 20's, though chances of getting there are vanishingly small obviously because they are head and shoulders above then regional/national lvl wrestlers.>here always was high demand for boxing classes for adults, much much higher than for wrestlingActually it's other way around especially in Caucasus. Actual boxing gym with a coach who will train you at competetive lvl is as rare if not even rarer then grappling, because it demands almost as much athleticism and is very dangerous for your head, and lots of people can't get over the fear of ngetting punched to the face. If you actually had been training boxing you would have learned coach won't even let you spar for the first half of year/full year and needles to say you won't have free fight with full force punches at all unless your oponnent agrees and apparently it would pointless thing for both to do unless at least one is going competetive due to head injury risk. I had 5-6 free fights early in period of 4-5 month and got concussion accumulated.
>>235877>farmer's carryFireman's carry
>>235877>writes about Russia in his first post>"I'm not writing about Russia!"Is it some sort of trolling with stupidity?
>>235894Caucasus part of Russia like Dagestan Ichkeria etc. your dumbass leaders seized for unknown reasons defo have wrestling gym that would take adults. It's prohibited in Koran to hit people's faces via fists, that's why they are so many good muslim wrestlers and they definitely would have gyms that any moderately athletic adult persons can get access too.I pointed out not talking about Russia in the context of zigger talking about sportsmanship tiers as Georgia would have the same system as in Soviet Russia.
>>235976>writes exactly "in countries like russia or caucasus" in his first post>"ugh akshually I meant Caucasus part of Russia" "and I meant in certain regions" "and I meant this and that"Yes, it is trolling with stupidity
>>235988Ichkeria will be free mazafaka
>>231275There are wrestling clubs for adults and it is getting more popular. I’ve even seen local old man competitions. Not sure where you are, but in Houston there are a good few places depending on what side of town you’re on. You should absolutely be able to find a place in any big city at some MMA gym.
>>229119Judo would be a better fit, as you could at least use the stand up grappling skills and take downs, where as BJJ is kind of like everything you're not supposed to do in wrestling, aka submission holds, chokes, fighting from your back etc...
