Anyone got any good webms or gifs? On my new PC so I don't have any. Someone should just rip all the prokyokushin shorts into webms.
I have a weird problem in sparring. I seem to not remember most of what I did in the whole duration. I'm still surprised by the stuff I see in the videos of my sparring sessions. Small things like blocking/reacting to incoming strikes, dodging foot sweeps, etc and other stuff I can't recall. Some reactions look straight out of a kata. Does anyone have the same experience?
My GOAT
If only he and Eremenko were a different generation.. No matter how old he gets he seems to always be at the top of almost every tournament he enters. Sad that he has somehow never won a World Open...

I don't think running is bad, but I also think you don't need to run every day if you're training to fight. I think a lot of the running everyday for Muay Thai is to build endurance for some of the really long fights they have, but also to quickly get people up to speed if they're unfamiliar with fight training. Training to fight in any kind of martial art requires a lot more than a few hours a week.
>>232080
>>232126Liam and Petch have been fighting for decades, Liam is at the very end of his career so running is actually damaging for his body, plus his mentality and endurance is already extremely well trained. Petch is most likely in the same position as well. Running routinely is ideal for beginner to mid level athletes.
I'm kind of bored with BJJ should I check out karate?
>>232261Yes. Bjj is a gay tournament meme just like tae kwon do was 20 years ago. If nothing else karate helps you learn your own body. Just do yourself a favor and do research. Dont just join a random strup mall KARATE dojo.
>>232293Let's say you're near St Louis, where would you go?
>>232301Just look for a style that interests you. I like okinawan styles (think earth bending from avatar) so currently i take seidokan which is shorin ryu combined with a lot of pressure points and grip techniques. I would recommend maybe a shorin ryu or some variant. Look for a place that not only claims to have affiliation with the grand master/main school, but also regularly goes to train with them like every year or so. Bonus points if they have multiple black belts who still regularly attend. It will take some reseach but when you find a place it is worth it. Places that evolve their own style and refine it as a sort of round table with the masters are cool too. And foe the love of god avoid the places that are essentially history lessons if you can unless you want to memorize and be tested on lineage master names and other pointless shit like that.
>>232080>>232126LMAO of course you don't need to run anymore if you trained for 20 years and probably ran first 5 years. Do you know what GPP is and why beginners spend a lot of time of first their years to train it? How dangerous is the KO by karate chop to the side of the neck AKA brachial stun? How does it compare to a more traditional head knockout like you often see in boxing? I’ve read about it and am curious about what it’s like to experience it but don’t want to do that if there’s risk of permanent damage. Looking at the internet it seems like science might not even understand how it works, I’ve seen some people attribute it to a brachial nerve strike while other’s say that’s a myth and it’s actually the vagus nerve and carotid arteries; I also vaguely remember some people saying it’s too do with the carotid sinuses.
>>232715Seisan is a difficult kata? What?>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENYFu2DZ-bcDoesn't seem that bad. I do Shotokan, but for some reason I learned Bassai Dai quicker than Tekki Sandan (standing on horse stance then doing a bunch of moves in quick succession before moving was annoying, but it became my most frequent weapon set in kumite). Try not to be daunted by the number of moves (who the hell counted those?). What I do to remember moves from a kata is to remember the obvious uses of the moves without the jap names for it (block + punch, grab head then knee, this is an arm grab, this is another arm grab, backfist + Kiai, etc.). Goodluck on your belt exam and sparring, SeidokanAnon. Try not to get injured.>I hope i dont sperg out and strike at fuĺl powerDo it

>>233112>>233106The shuto/tegatana/knifehand/swordhand should be done with the bone in the heel of the hand, which is just before the wrist, and regardless of bullshido, it's like those self defence videos where people smack each other with their forearms or clothesline each other and one guy goes flying. If you tense your hand properly, and have spent a long time training to strike with that part of your body, you could probably fuck someone up, but you could also just powerslam your forearm into the same place and get the same result.

I came into this not with an open mind, but actually being a little biased in favour of karate. I wanted so badly for it to be better and more practical than what I experienced. Please tell me that I've missed some important detail, or that my assessment of it is incomplete. Because I still want there to be more to it than what I experienced, but at this stage that all just seems like wishful thinking.
>>235422You found a shitty dojo. Im sorry anon. Ive also been doing okinawan (seidokan) for 6 months but my experience is the complete opposite. Ive sparred in 3 fight nights, we do a different type of lesson every class and i kind of wish we did kata more desu. Also the head sensei (we have about 15 black belts) ALWAYS tries to explain the purpose behind everything and how it would be implemented in the field, even down to each move in a kata. They claim to not do tournaments, but they seem open to it and always mention tournament rules during fight night so i think we might compete in the future potentially. Its also awesome having as many black belts that we do because they all excel at something different and explain things in different ways.Theyre also all going to okinawa this summer for a month to train under the grand master of seidokan which is neat. They do this semi regularly so i hope the old bastard lives long enough for me to go as well.Another cool thing is they encourage learning other forms of martial arts and once a month we have guest senseis and hanshis do seminars at the dojo itself for like 8 hours on a saturday. Also doesnt hurt that our annual fee is $80.
>>235460What's the purpose of age uke?
>>235536To protect your head and create an opening potentially? It depends on the context i guess but most likely to divert someone swingin down on your ass with a bat or something especially if youre a manlet. Also allows for quick transition into walk like an egyptian.
>>235536>>235539>protecting your headHuh...I used it to attack someone's jaw before while pulling his arm toward me. I just usually just parry attacks to my head in sparring.
>>235547I didnt even think about using it offensively. Shit you could probably transition it into grabbing the back of their collar and pull them down into your onee or something too
>>235460Other than the sparring, that sounds exactly like the place I was at. Lots of black belts (like a lot; most of them started back in the 80s or 90s, if not much earlier). They explain the purpose of everything you do, they go on group trips to train in Okinawa, the other stuff you mentioned. Even down to recommending you learn other things, as well. They told me they used to spar when they were younger, but they stopped it altogether as they got older, but were thinking about doing more of it again. Whatever, that's their business. But meanwhile, there were loads of younger students there who weren't getting the chance to do that. I didn't actually have a problem with doing the kata. After all, I was there to try traditional Okinawan karate, and I was already told ahead of time that that would be a big part of it. But two people practicing complex stand-up grappling drills without proper resistance just seemed like a good way to lose the moment someone fights back with intensity. The other part that bothered me was that even they seemed to be aware that some of the things they were teaching weren't the most practical and efficient, but that they'd teach you alternatives as you got more advanced. They never really explained why on that, though. All in all, if I go back to training, I think I'm just going to pick something simpler, with more regular sparring, and something with more resistance from training partners. Shit, when I did boxing, you'd at least get hit a tap in the head with a pad if you fucked up a slip or a roll.
>>235422Okinawan karate and "traditional karate" outside of Japan and okinawa is nearly always based on shit some GIs learnt in the 60s and is still stuck in thatv era, completely stagnant.

You sometimes need both, for example Gabriel Varga does both long distance running and sprints in training week. BUT, long distance running gives you biggest part of aerobic fitness, since sprints are needed mainly to teach your perifery system to utilize oxygen, and you can do same thing with just intense fighting exercises that are specific to sport, but you can't do them for aerobic fitness since no form of fighting can give you same oxygen uptake level compared to XC skiing, cycling, running or rowing. Even shadow boxing and rope jumps suck for that.>you probably thought HIIT cardio affects you the same as steady stateYeah, when I wrote steady state is better than sprinting I definitely thought steady state and HIIT are exact same things.>It's swimming, it's always fucking swimmingNever expected fucking k*neshitologist would say any smart thing LMAO. Swimming is the worst form of cardio. Swimmers that transfer to triathlon always struggle more because of their shit VO2max. >>237278>>237272I dunno guys. Sensei Al says the best way to train cardio is doing movement drills while running basics. Doing 100 punches, 100 kicks, etc. Seems to work for me as i get winded a lot less now, still probably ain't great on the knees. I am considering doing it at high altitudes or in the river near my house. Need to wait for the water level to recede tho. I think snowboarding might be good too since i have my bindings set to a kibodashi (that was on accident, but a happy accident). I smoked for 15 years, but now i only vape and i recently did a 5k obstacle course run and managed to keep up with the track team 20 year old guys on my team. Absolutely recommend an obstacle course as alternative training as well. I borrow the mentality from ranma 1/2 of anything in life being a training opportunity.
>>237325If you beginner everything works. That's why it is good for beginner to not over specialize and train a little bit of everything - some strength, some aerobic endurance, some hiit, some push ups and pull ups etc. It is good to train some aerobic endurance which is for example slow running for 30-45 min with condition to pass talking test to ensure this is realy slow run. You need aerobic endurance to recover between workouts and even between intense exercises, fighting rounds etc.Doing 100 punches and 100 kicks will not only give you some strength endurance, but also when you drill technique you work on movement economy, your body starts to move more coordinated and more relaxed resulting in what you may feel like more endurance.
>>237376Eh, fuck running. I just practice crescent steps with my drills or moving after kicks. Seems to do well enough. Also having a standing desk at work is clutch, i basically spend all day in a kibodachi or the other stances. Sure i look like a dork, but i dont need a chair like the other plebians.

Push ups and 20 rep squats are even better cardio than swimming because they have even less oxygen uptake? >The fact is swimming is pretty much the only cardio activity that can work total body muscular enduranceXC skiing and rowing already do that with greater oxygen uptake.>with zero impactEnough with downsides, what are the benefits?>meaning there is practically no wear & tear to interfere with trainingCycling, XC skiing and rowing already do that while also having greater oxygen uptake.>muscular enduranceFucking amerifat education. Muscular endurance is not transferable quality, you should train muscular endurance by doing your sport specific exercises. That's why runners or skiers don't train muscular endurance by kettlebell swings, but can train strength with barbell strength training and stroke volume with any other cardio activity (because strength and aerobic cardio are transferable qualities).
>>237510>gave you data as proofNo, you didn't.>Cycling, XC skiing and rowing already do thatNo, they don't.>Muscular endurance is not transferable qualityLol keep raging retard.>amerifat educationEver fancy a look at the demographics of higher education in the U.S.? It's not very American, because the entire world sends their best and brightest to be educated here. I don't know what shit hole corner of the world you're from but I guarantee even there, young adults are thirsting for opportunities to come study here.
>>237528>ahhhh... ugh... ummm... just, no! keep raging! swimming is good strength endurance exercise for fighting sports! It's not very American, because the entire world sends their best and brightest to be educated here. I don't know what shit hole corner of the world you're from but I guarantee even there, young adults are thirsting for opportunities to come study here.Retarded take, people go for amerifat education hoping to stay in USA to get high amerifat standards of life and for career opportunities, not because of your education. It is absolutely advised in Russia to get bachelor degree in Russia and move only for master degree or PhD, because fundamental education is much better than in USA. For example Zorich is much better and more complicated mathematical analysis book than Apostol or whatever you have in MIT, I'm not even talking about any of your other universities
>>237553Yes becauae russia is so renowned for its higher education internationally....Im suprised daddy putin lets you use normal people internet. Schizo rambling and bizarre autistic self censorship of the word kinesiologist aside, what would you recommend for arm stamina training aside from pushups?I guess this question is open to all anons. Im trying to futher conidition my forearms specifically.
>>237573>Yes becauae russia is so renowned for its higher education internationally....In bachelor degrees maths, physics and such things - yes.>Im suprised daddy putin lets you use normal people internet.China has even more censorship yet they crush everyone in math olympiad>what would you recommend for arm stamina trainingWhat the fuck is arm stamina? What the problem are you trying to solve?
>>237603Bagwork made my forearms stiff all around and tired as fuck after only 20 min. I dont always have access to a bag so i was wondering if there were other good exercises aside from just punching at the air.
>>237609ASide from bagwork you have shadowboxing, pads, thai pads, and underestimated but valuable is kyokushin style utase.
>>237609You're clenching your fist too much. Get good at keeping your hand closed and only tensing your fist when you throw a punch. There is no amount of bagwork that should be making your forearms stiff. This is a common new comer issue, no offense intended. It's just like new guys in boxing who gas out WAY too early cause they constantly have their shoulders primed. Your ready stance should be as relaxed as possible. The only constant tension should be the spring in your step, every thing else should be resting in place with only as much tension as it takes to hold form.
>>237609sounds like you're not punching with your body
I just found out that the original sparring for Karate is "Kake-kumite". It's like Wing Chun's chisao, but if Motobu Choki's book is to be believed, it's a fucked up version of it with kicking someone in the balls being a valid move, so is throwing, and you risk getting struck so hard you lose consciousness (which is mental considering the videos and pictures I saw of it target only the body). The bunkai of the katas suddenly make sense when you're stuck in stand up grappling range with your homie. Why isn't this done more? Is it because of the Japanization of Karate, making the kumite more like Kendo?
>>237777>>237749Ive tied a weight to a stick and have been rolling it up and down slowly with my fingertips. Its brtual but i can feel it working all of the muscles in my fore arm
the more I do jiujitsu the more I see kata movements come up as grappling techniquesit's too bad karate has decided to interpret them as weird retarded strikes and spend 0% of the time applying them in live scenarios like they are meant to be
>>237977>wrist rollerI really need to make one of those. I do nigiri game and chishi for my hojo undo.
>>237969A lot of old school karate was just having a scrap, lots of stories of the old masters putting themselves into bad places on purpose to have fights to test techniques. War ends, someone within the allied high command bans all martial arts sparring and practice. Karate for some reason wasn't included, possibly because it wasn't part of the Japanese education system, however because of these rules the funakoshi style of sundome of long distance, no touching became the standard
>>237999Isn't it kind of a shame that the universally accepted to be the least combat effective style of karate became the most wide spread one
>>238007It's called appealing to the lowest common denominator, no one who does WKF karate or whatever would want to train like this.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_zmL6BRCOA
>>238009aawwee man I love that "wall sparring" they do. This happens in the dojo I go to during sparring, but only because the place is tiny not a specific training activity.

Finally started learning seisan last night and im finding it incredibly interesting now that im past being intimidated by it. Aside from breaking it up into sections do any of you anons who know it have any tips for memorizing it? What should i watch out for in terms of common bad habits/form?Im a bit confused about the double block/strike you do after the grab pull into your knee. Is it just thrusting straight out with your arms, or do you still follow the trajectory that you would with a normal outside/overhead block?
>>238400How does this work that karatekas never can pull that off despite always training it?
>>238526>Im a bit confused about the double block/strike you do after the grab pull into your knee. Is it just thrusting straight out with your arms, or do you still follow the trajectory that you would with a normal outside/overhead block? Why don't you ask your coach?
>>238532I did. I asked a few and they all had different answers. I like to hear different interpretations and then make my own judgement since okinawan martial arts is such a varied art depend on the school.

Which type of makiwara to buy?
>>238726They seem incredibly easy to make. Why not just buy a 6 ft 2x4 and stick it in a bucket of concrete?
>>238730Don't I need to curl some ropes around the wood too?
>>238736Probably 1/2" or 1" hemp or similar would do the trick i imagine. Could tie at the back or get a metal tie
>>238726That's easy to make. You just need a tire and plank of wood.
Protips for taking a shit while wearing a gi without completely taking it off?
It's just so gay XDhttps://youtube.com/shorts/Cih_lvSgpNI?si=33qe9yXvHquPwxr2
>>239464>a perfectly done kata >"lmao"You pajeets are so cringe. Imagine being so weak that you have to latch on whatever fad just to try to fit in. Be it martial arts or anything. Just like how you need at least 10 of your limp wristed queer friends just to get laid by raping some old lady. That's gay as fuck. A subcontinent of pajeeto faggots.

I did goju ryu in munich. Wore my seidokan gi and yellow belt. It was awesome how quickly i fit into the class and it was eye opening to see how a country different from my own operates. Goju ryu has a lot tighter stances than seidokan and has more elbow strikes.

Do you think some of the stranger Karate strikes might’ve been made for people with mutant body parts? I saw a video a while ago about weird strikes in Karate and one of them was picrel (I forgot the name). The narrator said something like the strike didn’t make sense and you’d have to condition your hands a crazy amount. But when I make the fist with my own right hand it feels solid, while my left which lacks a club thumb feels more awkward. Do you think I could make this strike work in the real world? For me, the solar plexus seems like the best and most intuitive target for this blow.
what do you think of this round house head kick i did to this poojeet lmaoo i was 17 here if you want the full vid go on x raphaelmoggers
>>237969mang karate culture/karatebreakdown already made this point and dedicated their whole practice to it 10 years ago
How does one avoid or fix foot cramps? Started back up at the dojo yesterday and while doing kata both of my feet kept locking up randomly to the point where i had to stop and sit. Couldnt even move my toes when it was at its worst and i had to wait about 5 minutes for it to pass.
>>240799walk around your house on tip toes, train your fascia but picking up towels with your toes, your feet have muscles of their own that need to be trained like any other part of your body.
>>240556You probably could make it work. But I'd be afraid of breaking the finger like landing it on a hard place. Also cut your goddamned nails! Unless you're planning to weapons that too?
>>240556>that thumbnailanon wtf
Anyone else feel like a grade imposter? I got my 2nd Kyu at the start of this year and I don’t feel half as good as I was before I got it, just can’t seem to raise my pace to what it was before when I was training for it last year
>>241068Unless you're in your 20s or teens a grade is more a reward of dedication than how good you are because raw athleticism is always going to make a bigger difference than training time in the style except in edge cases of someone with a very high or low level of skill
>>241083Hmm, my instructor is renowned for being the hardest judge to grade with in our organisation. All of our gradings require quite a high standard of physical ability and skill, not just knowledge and dedication. I know I had that physical ability last year to achieve 2nd Kyu, but now that I'm thinking seriously about 1st (a roughly 6 hour long examination in front of the board of directors for our organisation) I just can't hit the same physical standard I had last year.

Ive been lazy about training bros. It has been about 2 months sonce i have been devoted. Whats the best way to get back in
>>241816Found my motivation.....we are testing at the end of this month and i dont know if i have enough class hours to test. In lieu of asking my sensei directly i am going to flat out train every day between now and then. We ran basics tonight and did kata and everything i did was sloppy as fuck and a struggle and i was embarassed at how i performed. My kihon was good (eventually) but it was obvious i barely know seisan. Wish me luck bros, daily training regimen begins tomorrow and im gonna show up to the dojo an hour early on class night to practice (the dojo is ran in an old desanctified public chapel).Hopefully when the gaggle of senseis return from training in okinawa in 2 weeks ill be markedly better.
>>231181Who's "he"?Sorry for not having my 3rd eye opened yet.
Thoughts on andy hug?
Has anyone tried Seido before? Im in new york currently training bjj but feel the need to put my fist through something
>>242130Have you tried... googling?>>242575There's different Seidos desu one is just Kyokushin but not Oyama related>>242151He was cool, not the be all and end all people make him out to be, but he put karate and Kyokushin into people's hearts and minds so the art owes him a lot.>>241804If this some kind of full contact traditional karate org? Would be interesting to try one day instead of point fighting or knockdown
If I want to teach martial arts (specifically karate) as a career, what should I do?Im a blue belt in Shotokan as of now and have also trained BJJ, albeit minimally.Seeking the wisdom of 4chan for this one. What should I consider?
