In theory a computerized system could be even better at accounting for strength of schedule because it could more easily account for not only the opponents' performance, but also the opponents' opponents performance, etc. recursively, however it could never account for the quality of wins, an authoritative win vs a close match is better judged by the pros' eye, so the theoretical computerized ranking system could never be perfect.

The whole purpose of the sanyaku ranks is that it's their job to show everyone who is boss by smashing the joi. They did a great job of it last basho, all of them except Takayasu, who lost 60% of his bouts including half of those against M1 and below (and he only managed that good of a record because his last 3 matches against there were with guys who averaged out to double digit losses). Which is why keeping him in there is kind of a weird move. Its not like he is about to turn it around and suddenly start beating everyone, he will probably just put up a similar performance again.
Maybe Oshoma will put up a great record and sanyaku will be expanded yet again and allow Takaysu to maintain komusubi west with a losing record again.

He is going to have to pull off some major upsets just to get to 7. Aside from sanyaku, Kinbozan owns him and Abi and Tamawashi won't let him get anywhere near their belts and Wakamotoharu is bigger than him and just as muscular.
Dan's only real advantage is the element of surprise since he hasn't faced most of the opponents he will go up against. If he goes as good as 3-7 in the first 10 days he might still be able to make it to a senshuraku darwin match facing others with bad losing records over days 11-14.

The banzuke committee meeting is over and jap media is now speculating about S2 slots being opened up for Takayasu and Dan.
Did someone on the committee leak something to the media?
I can see them wanting to expand sanyaku because that would cut down on the amount of potential kinboshi that could be given out.
>>
>>238996
Yeah, we might as well make it official at this point. I almost wish hemafags were more active. Almost.
>>
>>239126
>I can see them wanting to expand sanyaku because that would cut down on the amount of potential kinboshi that could be given out.
I guarantee you that's not the case. The extra money for S2 paychecks for a single basho is worth like 10x more than a single kinboshi payout for a 20 year career.
>>
>>239129
its not about the money, the excess of kinboshi are an embarrassment to the yokozunas that were recently promoted. And its kinboshis seem worse in part because the new yokozunas are being compared to the hakuho era when when yokozunas were facing only 6 maegashiras per basho while the yokozunas today are going up against almost twice as many.

Takes 33 victories over 3 basho to earn ozeki, and while the upper maegashira victories count, after a good score he's usually promoted to komosubi, and then sekiwake after a good komosubi basho, so no, nobody gets promoted straight out of maegashira.
>>
Will Kotoshoho do well enough in September to make it to joi rank for November or is he just another fluke winner who will never go anywhere like Takerufuji & Tokushoryu
>>
>>239476
Aonishiki’s 11-4 from M9 is far too low to start an ozeki run from. The lowest rank anyone started an ozeki run from this century was M3 (Tochinoshin, who scored a 14-1Y)

Aonishiki’s 11-4 from M1 would be the first basho in his ozeki run if he kept putting in 11-4 results.

Wake up babe the new clown basho is starting.
>>
>>241159
That's not and never will be a thing.
>>
>>241155
His entire career is gonna be like this. Either he's overeager after a bad basho so he overtrains and injures himself or he just sucks and keeps coming up with injuries to cover it up. Either way, it's too obvious a pattern at this point.

>>241156
The whole point of having two is so they can face each other. Now, if we had three, maybe then one could sit out.

>>241161
At this point it seems more likely than Hosh winning another one. My pick would still be Daieisho (assuming Onosato is still napping).

>>
>>241248
>Hakuho casually walks him out with barely any force
so what was Keisho's problem? was his pushing too weak? was Hakuho too strong? After Keisho's weight loss seems to me like he was mostly just lard with very little muscle underneath.
>>
>>241248
Tough to go up against a yokozuna because if you slap the shit out of him, or make him your bitch, he'll just show up at your beya for "training" after the basho and make your life absolutely miserable for revenge.
>>
>>241269
oh no hoshoryu please dont show up at my beya haha oh noooo your hurt your shoulder in practice bouts noooo hahaha
>>
>>241266
50% of his wins were oshidashi. You don't get that by just being a lard. You can even see how big his legs were in this clip
>>
>>241266
>so what was Keisho's problem?
1) Neck injury
2) He was too large to fight for very long

If the fight went over 5 seconds he lost more and more power to exhaustion.
>>
>>241266
I believe that post-weight loss, Takakeisho still weighs over 100kg. He hasn't posted any shirtless pictures yet, as far as I know, which makes it hard to judge how muscular he really is, but he's by no means small or scrawny with the fat removed.
>>
>>241282
>He hasn't posted any shirtless pictures yet
I believe there was a picture of him in a mawashi, it was posted somewhere in these threads but I couldn't find it.
>>
>>241266
>was his pushing too weak?
Yes.
>was Hakuho too strong?
Yes.

Notice how Hakuho keeps slapping him around like a bitch? He's doing that so keisho can't close and thrust against him. Hakuho could use his reach to keep thrusters out of range to tire them out and frustrate them into making mistakes. Then, once they're worn down a bit, he grabs the belt and it's fucking game over.

Latest Futagoyama slop was pretty bad. There wasn't even any training, it was just Denuma cooking some pretty awful looking food and then eating.

Still waiting for the day when Roga does jack shit in a beyaslop video. I'm starting to think he just has terrible Japanese so they don't like featuring him. Even Meisei gets a look in with Tatsunami's content.

I'd rather they didn't put out sloppa than put out sloppa of this quality.
>>
>>241358
Souga or Kyoda are even worse though. The previous vid with Denuma cooking was fine. The dude at least thinks about what he wants to cook and experiments. Those two fucks are just plain bad. They should be peeling potatoes and garlic for their whole life.

>>
>>241366
I guarantee you no one told Denuma to cook microwaved potato chunks with spam. That shit looked so bad I thought it was British.
>>
>>241366
Nope. The master and the sekitori can "hint" at food they want to eat, and they'll certainly get it, but for the most part in Futagoyama, the leader of the chanko shift has free reign to make whatever he likes with the ingredients on hand. However, it's not really "whatever he likes" and more "whatever he can" - the Futagoyama boys are all very young and none of them are accomplished or adventurous chefs. If you've just done your morning keiko and you've got an hour to make enough food to feed twenty fat fucks, you're going to fall back on simple, basic meals a lot. It'll be much better when one of the boys turns into a full-time cook due to chronic injury and reluctance to retire, like Kokuryunami at Tatsunami, because he'll have more time and feel more pressure to "earn his keep".
>>
>>241368

I think it's more likely that Daieisho is just exercising "common sense" and not risking aggravating his injury for no reason on the tour. I know we're all used to watching Hoshoryu make things worse but not everyone is that desperate to prove themselves.
>>
Aonishiki is going to be in a similar situation as in July, he'll get all his sanyaku matches out of the way early and if he does well he'll be put into the position of facing any lower ranking yusho competitors. Tough schedule, if he manages to put up dubs again he will have earned it
>>
>>241602
BASED Tamawashi will probably do the old school intai as soon as, IF, he gets dropped from Makuchi.

Daieisho doesn't have a history of skipping out for insignificant reasons, sitting out in July was a disaster for his ozeki hopes, he'd have been way better off even if he had been able to put up a weak performance and only drop to joi level. If he got hurt enough to sit out it was something that might've been bad enough to prevent him from performing at full Daieisho power in September too. We'll see in the first few days if he is blasting opponents out with his characteristic approach or trying to win with slap downs or other techniques that keep the strain off his legs

Onosato is not either of those two. He has potential to become of that level, but potential is just that.
>>
>>241659
>Onosato is not either of those two.
Hakuho won about 40% of the yushos during his tenure in makuuchi and Onosato has about the same win rate. The only reason you say Onosato isn't either of those two is because he hasn't been around long enough to match those two's totals yet, there is no reason to expect that Onosato won't eventually be in their range. If he improves as he gets closer to 30 then he may even outstrip them.
>>
>>241665
Even if he manages to stay on those numbers Onosato has no right to be put together with those two. He's the king of forward stomping mediocre rikishi in a sumo era with an otherwise non existent sanyaku.

Yeah, I just said he has potential, what did you think I meant by that? You can't compare a guy with all time greats when he's been around for 2 years at the top. His sumo needs to develop as well because those 2 were far better wrestlers then he currently is. Your 40% yusho rate for Hakuho is reductive and misleading. That's dragged down by the last 5 years of his career where he was absent all the time. He had 42 yusho out of 84 as yokozuna (50%). If you just remove the ones he went kyujo, it skyrockets to 42 out of 65 (64.6%).

He was forced out by the growing anti-immigration party (sanseito) and because of his party's loss of seats to them in. Ishiba embarrassed himself, his party and his country when he fell stepping off the dohyo back in January after handing the cup to Horseshitryu. Hopefully the JSA will learn a lesson from this and kick all the mongs out of sumo. International types can go wrestle for Hakuho in his international league.
