Is anybody here into breaking or other similar dance styles? What's your training routine like?
>>
>>241051
I used to be but i quit for figure skating, just regular hip hop with some waacking and voguing on the side. Im guessing that to train for breakdancing one should look into calisthenicd
>>
>>241062
How do you even go from something like hip hop to figure skating of all things? Kind of an outta nowhere leap.

I couldnt find my flow, the choices of moves were too vast for my peabrain and dancing always felt more like a performance than something coming from the soul for me so i switched to something actually performative with limited amount of variables. I dont actually think i enjoyed dancing in itself that much but rather the process of learning and i guess once the learning curve hit me i switched to something shining brand new, which is currently hitting me with another learning curve lol, but this time i'll stick to it. Dancing still holds a place in my heart tho :3

That pepe guy was not me (OP). This is me lol. I forgot to check the thread for the past 5 days. But yeah, i read what you said and i get it, i guess. You said you might have not even enjoyed dancing in and of itself, and instead you were more captivated by the learning process, but for me it's definitely not the case. I've been into this shit since i was like 11 years old, and i'm 23 now and that jolt of ecstasy still hits me just the same, whenever i see dance videos online or I hear some good ass beats. And i barely actually practiced this whole time, beacuse I was too busy with school + college. But now i'm done with all that, and i'm planning to go all out with this shit until i hit my physical limit. And i'm not even doing it with the intent of competing professionally or something like that. I do it cause it's just that cathartic for me.

Dude for the entire time i pretended to be a dancer i prayed and prayed for this kind of passion to be blessed upon me, but it never came and i kept faking until i quit. You however have it and i bet it's fucking great to dance with you, keep doing what you love and you'll find people who'll love you for it

I'm a boxer and I would love to try and translate the mind body connection you build from doing that into dancing. Anytime I look around for dance lessons of some sort though all I see are lessons for some traditional form of dance, usually for couples. Like, is there a way to just learn how to move my body to music in a way that looks cool? How do you start with this?

>i prayed and prayed for this kind of passion to be blessed upon me

Christcucks are so weird

Yeah it's definitely not the kind of thing you can fake until it actually happens. And i apply this belief for pretty much anything really. Sure you can hamfist skills into your mind/body but it's never gonna feel the same as someone who naturally has these sorts of inclinations. So yeah, this sort of approach is pretty much a fruitless pursuit. I also went through something similar when i was trying to teach myself coding.

And thanks for the words of encouragement i guess but I highly doubt I'll ever find someone interested in dancing as much as I am lol. Althought it would be interesting to experience having a dance buddy of some kind.

I don't think there really is a definitive answer to this. You just turn on the music and you try to feel it. That's what worked for me all these years at least. Didn't really put much thought into it, it just happened.

But first of all, there are hundreds of styles out there, each with its own little flavour/vibe/context and music to go with it. Which kind did you have in mind, exactly?

And don't waste your time looking for actual dance classes irl and other shit like that, hoping you'll find something cool. Odds are, you most likely won't. All the "cool shit" is high skill floor - high skill ceiling, which automatically filters most people. Which is why you find all irl mentions of "dance classes" to be actually about these pair/couple dance styles; they're still technical styles, but the skill floor is significantly lower, making it more inviting for people who might not give as much of a shit about the activity itself. Plus the social aspect. The internet is your best bet for doing research on specific styles you're interested in.

Okay, I get the picture. Have to just start doing it. What I would love to figure out is how to dance to is funk type music from the 70s and 80s. Stuff like this:

Know any good dancing examples for this type of music?
>>
Raygun was the best thing that happened to this sport
>>

Interesting choice. Can't say I'm experienced with disco so I don't have any great examples on me right now. But you could definitely search for like, 70s dance footage or something like "disco funk coreography / dance moves" and find some relevant stuff. I found this while searching right now and it looks pretty good for starters, imo.

Try to get a feeling of these guys' moves. Then try to reproduce them. And then go on from there and improvise a little. And then when you need more visual reference, watch more video.

I've never thought about it so clearly, it sounds a bit defeatist but i guess in my situation and for you you'd be right. Strange that you havent found any dancebuddy yet because in my 3 years of posery i've had like 2 who i still keep in touch with, one i met at dancing classes and the other on a famous dancing spot, maybe you should check those out your city?
>>
>>242007
Nah, it's not strange at all. First of all most of the "dance classes" I could find here are aimed at literal children and teenagers. And even if they weren't, I just consider this whole dance class thing very faggy and fake. I have a very specific and autistic vision of what dancing should be (at least for breaking in particular). It's the type of shit you should be training in some garage alone or with some sort of makeshift crew (while occasionally yelling at eachother), up until like 2am and then maybe cracking a few beers open. Should feel a bit grimy and rough around the edges, a bit sporadic. That's what makes the whole process feel authentic and unfiltered. Paying some guy to "teach" me dance moves through his carefully curated lessons over the course of a few weeks, surrounded by other clumsy chumps feels so sanitized and corporatized. There's no charm to it.

As for "dance spots", there are none. Not in my city at least. I live in the balkans, there just isn't a culture for this sort of thing here. I'm pretty much an outlier in terms of my obsession with this dancing shit. I'm sure there are at least a few others ( in this country) who have a passion for this sort of thing, but they most likely keep it to themselves, just like i'm doing lol. So there's not chance of intersecting whatsoever. Again, not exactly bothered by this fact, since i'm not actively seeking out people in the first place. But hypothetically, it would be an interesting experience to practice with someone like that.
