Does anyone here use the sci Fi fantasy boards? I've been getting into skating, and my skate friend showed me their endless beauty vid and I fell in love. I want Arins board I love Resident Evil. I HEARD that sometimes the boards can be flat but idk it was like one reddit post I saw.As for the wheels and stuff I can figure it out myself probably. My current board has 97a slime ball wheels. I think they're either 56 mm or maybe 60 I actually don't remember. They're definitely slightly bigger than other wheels. They're fine for going around on the roads and parking lots near me I suppose. But I want a new proper board with actual hard wheels, as I start to get into ollies and manuals and basic things. The board I use is some second hand board I got for relatively cheap. I will say I'm worried about putting grip tape on, that sounds kinda scary.Anyways, tldr, are sci Fi fantasy boards nice? I don't really know if boards have a difference other than design...

>>243017sci fi fantasy is great. Don't worry about your gear rn, just skate. Most skaters are broke and skate their shit until its completely busted, so don't think about buying more shit until you're at that point. Just skate rn. But for your next wheels I would get smaller and harder yea. But big and soft is good for a beginner cruising around, which is what you should be doing rn. >>243017As a minor follow up to this, yesterday me and my ex skated a bit because I really wanted to try her board. She got me into skating and her 7.5" board felt way too small at the time months ago. She had bone 100s on them too. I got the 8.5" because I felt I'd be more comfortable learning on that and I was right. But yesterday when I tried her board for literally just one minute, I felt fucking amazing. It felt smooth, I felt good, I felt comfortable. Maybe still just a little too small width wise. But I don't know how much of it was the wheels or the size or both. It was semi decent asphalt, nothing hyper smooth but smooth enough. I'm gonna take a ride 40 minutes out to a skate shop tomorrow, because I think I want to see how an 8 inch board feels (I'm just assuming they'd have a board or something for me to stand on? Idk I've never been to a shop before)I don't know how dramatic of a difference 8.5 to 8.25 is, or 7.5 to 7.75. I absolutely want something smaller than 8.5, no questions asked. Maybe I'll look at Girl and see if they have anything nice, IF 8.25 isn't actually much smaller than 8.5. Obviously .25 of an inch isn't a lot in the real world but I really have no idea what it's like on a skateboard. I've only stepped on two in my life, the 8.5 and the 7.5. I'm leaning towards 7.75 or 8.I'm mostly rambling here but I'm sure you guys could see what I'm asking. How big of a difference is .25 on a board? Should I just split the difference and go 8 even? Also as a bonus question, should I go symmetrical when learning or just stick with a normal board that has the nose raised higher than the tail. I still can't do tic tacs or kick turns or anything yet. I'm good at pushing and can carve great, and can go down inclines that don't have a dramatic switch in level (some busted parking lot near me has a semi-steep incline I practice on, but the transition is smooth).Sorry if I sound retarded or whatever, I'm still new to this! Thank you for any responses.

>>243150Give me the redbull funding and i'll do it.I'l basically suicidal already.>>243151The reason it's not cool is because at this point it's not a skater's achievement. You can put Burnquist into the same setup or even fucking Fletcher could do it.It's an NBD and a world record for all the R&D teams that done the math, engineering and prep do build the whole ramp, stoppers, board setup, the suit e.t.c which is still cool, but not for the skating itself. It's badically just a medium. You could replace the board with rollerskates and it would basically the the same.Seeing dudes bomb SF hills on a 53mm hard wheel and soft trucks in a t-shirt looks way crazier than this unironically.

>>243158He will.Im sure rhey will add another teir when he gets to the top
>>243158He will. Idk how they're handling this one, but usually you only get one attempt at a world record per "gathering". At least that's how Guinness works. So the athletes and event organizers usually want to make it worth their while and let the world record attempter warm up a bit first.
>>243160Yeah bro he should be dropping in off of this 24 story building barefoot on a penny board.

look at the size of those trucks and wheels while they kept a "small" board lel
>>243182I mean the budget doesn't matter I have the money I suppose. It isn't about the 50 dollar board vs the 100. I just don't know if the flight stuff like fucks up muscle memory or is bad for someone who is new and learning, because it's like extra light and a different quality and stuff and like super thin.
>>243181You're so right bro, clearly he machined the trucks himself and poured his own wheels instead of letting red bull pay for it

>>243189I'm not an expert in the field yet! Building a board is confusing. I'm unsure if I should go twin or normal(popsicle?)I have to order shit soon though and don't have the time to do a bunch of research. I know the basics though like the trucks should match the width of the board. It's just the board itself that confuses me
>>243185If you have the money just look up any boardshop and what brands buy blanks from them.Buy a 8.25 board, indy trucks, any bearings and 101A 53mm wheels. After that just try out different wheels and boards until you feel comfortable and stick with that. You really can't go wrong with BBS boards, indy trucks, bones reds/bronson G3 and any dual formula street wheel.I ride 54mm X97 bones and they feel really nice. Very soft for riding rough street and slide just as good as 101A

>>243208Large wheels help with bad terrain and looser trucks help with carving, large boards hardly factor in. Carrying 25 pounds is no problem even for dyels, and as a teen I skated with longboard wheels and risers on a regular deck for years. You don't impress
>>243211a wider board gives you more leverage and room for error when carving, a longer board gives more stability for speed which is necessary to get a good carving feel with big wheels that can handle rough roads and debris and shit>Carrying 25 pounds is no problem even for dyelsits an awkward shape where it creates a lot more weight due to leverage in certain positionsim just saying i could see feeling kinda stupid moving an eskate around if i was a typical skater size, plus i wouldnt need one so bigim bulking up to almost 200lbs and i have short ass legs so i just dont think regular skateboards work good for someone like me

What are actually the difference between these things. I would assume I'd get just the literal first one on this list.. but what makes literally any of these different other than Hollow being lighter I think??
>>243217Standard and standard hollow Indys are 55mm tall. Forged baseplates shave off a couple mm, but are lighter. I prefer the extra height of the standard baseplate. I'm on standard hollows currently, but will probably go back to normal standard because the reduction in weight hasn't been noticeable. Indys are taller than Thunders.
>>243212Wider boards are for comfort, the leverage point on a skateboard is in the pivot bushing, not the board on top; Skateboards originally had roller skate truck with a skinny board attached and you could carve those easily.Longer boards are fine for extremely high speeds but unless you're regularly bombing hills there is hardly a need for a longer board, I cite Nuge's hill bomb. "Good carving feel" is a result of good board control, if your terrain is bad like mine is you can ride longboard wheels on a regular deck with risers. Carrying a battery board is not as difficult as you make it out to be, find the center of gravity and carry it. There are people with one or no legs that still skateboard. All of your excuses makes me assume you actually carry your battery board like wheeled luggage, do yourself a favor and stop making excuses. Battery boarders are all yuppie faggots, you just so happen to also be a lazy manlet.
>>243217Get the Stage 11s and don't think too hard about it.You'll also need to break in the bushings. You won't really be able to tell cause you can't compare it to anything but they'll ride a bit shit for like the next 8 hours of use.
>>243220I meant the first one on that list, the silver standards.
>>243219you are trying so hard to obfuscate things that should be understood so easily and so intuitively, all to try to personally attack eskate riders, lol

>>243218>>243220Okie I see I see. I'll get the first thing then. Do the standards being tall mean I can avoid getting risers? I'm not actually sure what wheel I'd be getting. Probably somewhere between 53-56 or something. Bones 100s maybe

I saw Grant Taylor skate in person the other day. He came to my local park with his wife and kids. He was barely trying but I've never seen anyone skate like that. Fucking insane. We have a bowl at the local that is 8 foot in the deep and and about 4-5 in the shallow and he just made it look like it was too small for him. He skates so fast and every line he took he was grinding up onto the hip or grinding off the hip. And as i said he was barely breaking a sweat. FWIW i've seen some pretty incredible pros skate before, diego todd, jake anderson, curren caples, hugo boserup, basically seen the whole limo team skate in person desu but none of them hold a candle to GT. WOW!
>>243314There was this guy at my local park I saw one time with his lil 5 year old daughter who I temporarily watched for him, and he did some insane transition skating so flawlessly at like fucking INSANE speeds and I wonder if it was someone semi pro or has some parts online somewhere. I should have asked him. I will always remember that though dude was crazy. Must be nice to encounter famous skaters in the wild though. I'm pretty new and I would like to discover some new guys to watch. Ideally some Jersey locals but anyone's fine
>>243277He does some cool stuff in the street but his style is pretty wack. Skates slow. He just doesn't have the rawness that I like to see in skating but i will admit i watch all his parts and they are absolutely entertaining at the very least. One trick of his that stands out to me was the wallie up,over and into the jersey barrier. That was cool because he didn't drag the trick on a bunch by doing some gay freestyle shit.
>skill, swag, everything>Andy AndersonC'mon now I like him but the guy has negative swag>>243307A glimpse into the twisted mind of a tranny
>>243316Well I live in socal so i just see them around all the time. I'm not from here though so i'm not totally desensitized to it like local californian guys are.GT was really cool in person btw. I'm a pretty quiet guy and didn't really talk to him other than just some quick greetings but he talked to some of my other friends there and he was super friendly.

What will be a bigger difference as a beginner?Going from a different sized board or a different sized + type wheel. Like my current board is 8.375 with wheels that go like half an inch past the fucking board, and they're pretty soft too and 60mm. It's a second hand board. I don't really know though if size of the board is an issue. Obviously I want a new board with different harder smaller wheels. But I just can't tell if I want 8 inch or if the 8.25s would be fine. Boards are so expensive so I really kinda just got one shot at this.

>style = comfortAndy isn't that comfortable on his board and has many tricks he cannot do or doesn't have on lock. His video with Crob learning nose manual nollie heel shows that, compared to someone like Ishod who just cruises and can casually thrown and any trick whenever he wants.
I think Skate IQ is the best Skate channel ever. Thank you Mitchie. He's so nice and explains things well. He's pretty funny too.
>>243333nose manny nollie heel is kinda hard tbqh
>>243334I thought i liked him, but i realized that he actually haven't taught me shit or made me land a single new trick with his "advice" ever since i started watching him.The asian autist that 3d models the physics behind the tricks on the other hand helped me bone out my ollies and get a tre + 360 pop shuv on lock.

Thanks to Mitchie my pivots are on point, I do them every session to warm up. This translated to comfy fs/bs 180s. That translated to way more consistent halfcab flips, landed a couple bs flips. My manuals are better and I can actually pop out of manuals (learning to kickflip out) and hold nose manuals way better. I always was shit at tranny and now I can pump and ride bowls better, translated to my surfing very well funnily. And back to kickflips I had them but he talked about warming up he doesn't even try land the first few just make sure his flick is on point and to float with the board, I do that now and it seems to have made them more solid.Alternatively this is all probably basic shit that anyone can figure themselves, lot's is just warming up properly and getting board feel down quickly. But when you skate once in two weeks sometimes it really does help me going again.
>>243326If you're riding soft 60mm wheels it will be a huge difference going to some regular wheels. Those are wheels made for just cruising the street but if you want to do tricks you will need to get some smaller and harder wheels.
the big problem with andy anderson is he takes himself too seriously. someone like louie barletta did a tone of weird autistic skating shit but he also just seemed fun to be around so he got away with it and made it look good. but andy seems like he would be punishing to skate with.
tbf louie barletta had really good style and skated fast though

Newish to skating building a board. What kind of shaped wheels am I supposed to get? There are conical, wide, tablet, etc. I just want some basic good set of hard wheels for an 8-8.25 inch board
>>243457Get 54mm classics. The rounded edge allows the board to flip more easily. If you plan on skating rough ground, conical or conical fulls are good. They have a more square edge. Radials are a nice inbetween. Ben Degros has a good video about ithttps://youtu.be/gvJUmEOTV4M
>>243459I see I see. Thank you anon. One more questionTwin or popsicle for board shape? I know popsicle has the nose being taller than the tail, but is symmetrical good for learning too or should I really just do the standard one
>>243461I would go with a standard board. I've never had a twin shape, but if you are learning I think it would benefit you to get a feel for what a nose and tail feel like under your feet. I personally would hate doing nollie tricks without a proper nose.
>>243461imo it's best to start w/ popsicle. twin is more of a weird preference thing. when you're riding forward the amount of weight you can leverage on the nose vs the tail will be different and that'll even carry over to riding switch. i can only switch tre off the nose.your first board is the one that's gonna teach you what you like so dont worry too much about getting everything right. skateboarding will still be hard regardless
>>243360So would Rodney Mullen, what's your point?

>>243521I've already skated like every spot in the game, they just need more better spots n it'll be fine
>>243525it a feels way too easy and the physics are very floaty and weightless, i had more fun fucking with the retarded shit you can do with your character on foot than on a skateboard
also why the fuck is it a city with huge amounts of space occupied by dumbass buildings and not an actual endless skateparksoo many rails compared to ramps and pools and half pipes etcits like they're trying to be as similar to gta online as possiblethis reminds me i should try playing riders republic some more
>>243525There is just nothing to do anymore. I can't be fucking grinding the shitty challenges for shitty gear. If i want to get realistic clips I'll play Skater XL/Sessions or go out irl.
>>243528i would grind for cosmetics a lot if they let me design the body with more finesse so i could be a thicc bimbo, and it had good boob and ass physicsand also if the skating didnt feel like floaty UE5 slop
>>243500Rodney Mullen would mumble and stare at his feet while trying the same thing over and over . AA would spend the whole time yelling "look at me daddy, tell me that looked gnarly, come on, say I'm cool". Big difference
nothing on earth scares me more than a 32 inch quarterpipe
I didn't know how to skate tranny until they built this park where I live now it's my favorite thing to skate.. ps my homie noseblunted the wall Sammie 5-0s in the first cliphttps://youtu.be/J4yCCP86SPY?si=CfSenRNZFTPLf-fL
>>243580i love bank walls like that
How big of a difference is it going from 8.375 to an 8 inch board?I'm still new so I don't know what I like yet. I can't tell if the current board i have (8.375) is something I like, because it was second hand and the wheels are like half an inch out past the board and it's all weird. So I never felt like I got a good gauge.
>>243580absolutey legendary video, glad someone else remembers
>>243290it sounds counterintuitive but that gives you less control because you're relying on leverage instead of board control
>>243602lmao you're using leverage either way but a wider board sorta lets you stiffen up the bushings a little more allowing you to use bodyweight more instead of just angling your feet. the end result is a larger gradient of force you can apply which is useful for longer heavier carving than the spazzing out in your gif. as in carving at a higher speed while still retaining stability. not turning at a faster rate but turning while moving at a higher speed. with a thinner board you need looser bushings because you cant apply as much force using your weight, and then you're relying much more on very small muscles in your ankles instead of using more of your entire bodyweight and overall stabilizing muscles in your entire bodya wider board allows you to make heavy turns with higher g forces and use completely different muscle groups more>>243603god i wish that were me (the pavement)
>>243595That's an apex cool photo

>>243617Yes if u post them in this thread I will sponsor you
>>243605That's not speed wobble, fat fuck is bombing a hill and precisely carving because he has board control despite his weight, looser trucks, and skinnier board. Probably has beefy ankle muscles. You seem to think board control is reduced with a skinny board and that's because you're reliant on tight trucks for the sake of speed which is why you have less board control, if you want high speed and tight trucks get a longboard dude.
>>243633i didnt say it was speed wobbleits pretty simple all im saying is a bigger board (wider and longer) will let you take relatively harder turns at higher speeds better without as much chance of losing control>fat fuck is bombing a hill and precisely carving because he has board control despite his weight, looser trucks, and skinnier board. maybe you realize this but his trucks possibly arent actually more loose, he literally has more weight he can apply and create more leverage despite a thinner deck, due to being fat>you're reliant on tight trucks for the sake of speed which is why you have less board control, if you want high speed and tight trucks get a longboard dude.i go about 15-20mph. does this look tight for that speed?
I am so confused but is one guy trying to argue that bigger boards are more manoeuvrable?>Bigger = Stable>Smaller = ResponsiveSurely common sense or I misunderstood the autism.
>>243639the faster you're going the less stable a turn will be. with a wider deck you can tighten the trucks and still turn just as hard due to the increased leverage available, and have more stability due to a wider range of force that you can apply to the trucks, involving more muscle groups in your body overall rather than in the ankles
>>243638I guarantee your gonna get hurt on that thing
>>243646its not that loose im putting a lot of weight on the side and even pulling it up on the other side a little
>>243647U got no clearance tho a rock will be deadly lol
>>243648theres a couple inches of clearance for most of the back, ive gone 500 miles without a problem like that, i can run right over these things like they dont exist
i mean i run over these things even directly with the wheels and i almost dont even feel iti guess its possible for a big rock to snag the undercarriage but somehow its never happened, i tend to keep my fuckin eyes open and avoid big rocks completely i guess
>>243638You called it spazzing out, I sarcastically used the term speed wobble because you don't get how board width matters less than board control. look here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYSr-Sft4Zkdude is using a skinny two foot long board. you're not going any faster than a regular skateboard can, using your hand to pull on the board to make it turn more, and you think all that is helping you carve better? cmon now
is there anything worse than having a hurt knee
>>243659Internal drowning

Hi I'm pretty new to skating. Can't do any tricks, but I have the basics down, pushing, tic tacs, kick turns, that stuff. But I'm not sure I'm doing it rightI thought I saw somewhere that you're supposed to, for most things, be using the balls of your feet as like, your everything. Like your full foot shouldn't be on the board. That when you tic tac, it's all based on the balls of your feet. Is that true? It burns my ankles like a proper workout when doing it, but I'm not sure that's supposed to be how everything is. Usually my foot is partially over the edge of both sides of the board, heel and toes over, but I started to use the balls of my feet more as the "everything" factor with turning, tic tacs etc
>>243738No you just use the balls of your feet when doing tricks, the more you learn tricks the more you'll learn to skate on your balls thoughIt's not something for beginners to worry about just skate

Been thinking of buying a penny board. Kind of shocked at the cost because it's basically just a hunk of plastic with wheels. I wanted it because I assumed it would be a cheap alternative to an entire setup and I just want to cruise around. Seems like there's a bit of a stigma against them too? Idk haven't skated since middle school. Advice?
