Hey /xs/, absolute tourist here, do you guys ever discuss skiing or have a skiing general? I see another thread on cross country, but I'm thinking more alpine or freestyle. Bit early in October, but I'm looking forward to this season, hoping I'm well enough to go.
>>245391>let my roomie borrow my skis>he trashes them in a rockfield and doesnt even apologize
>>245391skiing is cool
>>245391i plan to learn how to ski this season. im stoked on it, seems like something ill be able to do into old age. I've snowboard and skate. Hope i can pick skiing up relatively fast. I refuse to take lessons and give vail more money. Just going to watch youtube tutorials lol
>>246540>I refuse to take lessons and give vail more money.it's pretty easy to find independent ski areas that offer lessons that aren't owned by Vail / Alterraif you're in CO Loveland is still family owned and offers lessonsyou can probably pick up the basics pretty quickly though, it's not hard if you're moderately athletic. getting rental boots that fit correctly will be the most frustrating probably
>>246540Even just some basic ski lesson help you a surprising amount. I’m no pro, but I can do black runs comfortably (only really get to ski like one week a year) and every once in a while getting some solid instructions has made my experience so much nicer. Having someone there as you’re going really helps get you better intuition for your turns and where to hold your arms (surprisingly important)If you’re renting skis this year, I really like the Heads’ KORE skis are really fun intermediate skis. I’m not sure how beginner friendly they are though?Best of luck this season!
Just bought myself some gripwalk compatible alpine touring boots for a splitboard set up, can I theoretically buy a pair of park skis and install grip walk bindings on them? How does it compare to standard ski bindings?
>>249717Pretty much every ski binding produced in at least the past 5 years has GW on them. I have Grip walk boots/bindings on my park skis and though my geriatric 24 yo body doesn't really do corks anymore, they still do well enough on rails and other shit. As long as the boots are rigid enough to take some hard hits, the setup should be fine.
i'm so fucking hyped for this season brosbeen going a couple days a season for the last couple years, I took a long break from skiing but had such a nice time at mammoth in January that I splurged and bought the ikon base pass early at a discount. gonna be taking a trip up to june lake in a month with some friends, haven't been to that mountain since I was a kid.for anyone thinking about getting an ikon pass, if you have access to an .edu email address you can get the student discount. I'm 31 but was able to get my pass for like $400 instead of $600 because my old university still lets me use that gmail account.
>>249923Damn I’m 25, turning 26 in a month, and working with a pair of 2023 atomic backland pros just getting into the hobby. Guess I still have more shopping to do.
