I really want to take up a martial art, and have since I was a kid, but have an internal defibrillator. It's a preventative measure, and I lift weights/run with no issues. Any ideas what ones would be appropriate? Basically anything where I'm not about to get struck hard and repeatedly in the chest (I own a small shield for it that can fit under clothing very easily/allows for full range of movement, so occasional accidental striking of it/pressing on it is no issue).
If you're into armor and knights I'd recommend taking up HEMA. You could swing around a polearm relatively safely. As long as you don't get crit in the chest you'd be fine
>>249491I think Judo and Wrestling are out then, since you can get literally knocked down so hard you get the air "sucked out of you". Muay thai, karate and perhaps kickboxing are out too. You could do boxing, but it's extremely cardio heavy, or Jiu Jitsu without takedowns.
>>249547Yeah, I was leaning BJJ and taking it easy on the takedowns. When it comes to sparring I figure I'll just pull guard immediately.
Genuinely I think the answer is Tae kwon do because the sparring is light and you wear a big puffy chest protector as well
>>249552Interesting. I may have to look into it, there's a TKD dojo near my house.
>>249551>I'll just pull guard immediatelyThat's not quite right. Just play normally without any insane wrestling or Judo where you might be slammed to the ground. >>249552Yeah but taekwondo guys use that because they get kicked at mach 5. It's still a risk for OP. Say whatever you want about taekwondo but on their rules their kicks can be unlike any other impact you have felt in your life.
>>249562Take it from me, in jiujitstu the #1 cause of injuries is trusting other people to take care of you, even when you make it clear you have medical problems and to be careful of it with clear boundaries set there will always be retards who just don't get it
>>249562Yeah, maybe pulling guard every time is a but excessive. Still, I'd rather be careful when I can even when it's not fully warranted.>>249564Like this guy said. I'll minimize the possibility of someone else fucking me up whenever/wherever I can.
>>249526Aren't you liable to get stabbed in the chest pretty frequently in HEMA?
>>249491Have you thought about Japanese sword arts?
>>249591Stuff like kendo?
>>249594Not necessarily kendo since you’ll definitely be taking strikes to the chest. I was thinking stuff like Iaido, Battodo, or Kenjutsu.
>>249600Iaido looks interesting. And based on what I just read, aren't strikes to the chest not a valid target? And don't you wear armor?
>>249619The vast majority of styles don’t spar so it won’t be an issue.
>>249620I mean in kendo wrt strikes to the chest and armor. My understanding is that the chest isn't a valid target, and you wear a chest protector anyways.
>>249564Happens on every sport. You could go play badminton and you're still going to find ego retards who will try to profit off an injury or shortcoming. If they don't calm down just don't do it anon, you're a paying customer at the end.
>>249628Don't trust training partners off the bat in general. Feel em out, be careful.
>>249491Die to remove yourself from the gene pool :)
>>249730Everyone has the right to live. Not everyone has the right reproduce. Nobody has the right to hurt their fellow man unprompted.
>>249749Thanks anon.>>249730Fuck you anon.
Anyone think kendo would work for OP?
>>249878What the fuck are you on about?
Performance wushu.
>>249867No thats a lot of striking and often on the chest
>>250024Is it? I thought the chest was a non-scoring area?
I think it's just head and hands that score but I don't know, never done it before
>>250064That could work for me then. I have a little paceguard thing I can wear over my defrib, and it works pretty well. It'd almost certainly fit under the armor based on what I've seen.
>>249491You are broken, fundamentally. Don't do martial arts. You shouldn't even exist.
