>>261505Oh god holy shit, the final fight as it stands is going to be Hosh v Zak. Fucking lmaooooo
>>261506Nah, I can feel another 5-5-5 coming for Nephew.
>>261508That was erubō chippu. He's in good health right now. No reason not to expect 12+.
>>261503>Onosato is a disgrace.>gets injury where all the muscles from the shoulder rip away from the collar bone, an injury that DEMANDS surgery and a lengthy healing process to repair at all, let alone with issues>master, who had to retire due to a similar injury convinces him to keep fighting on it>hakkaku(who has zero impressive students in his own stable) says the yokozuna are a joke and that nobody is training hard enough>onosato tries anyway, does admirably for a man with a shoulder like a ripped canvas sack>hakkaku continues insisting that it's a fucking joke>in training Onosato can't even beat juniors and they relent and let him go to the hospital>it's really fucking bad>kisenosato at last admits, "we're considering surgery, this won't heal in just one or two basho"I do not feel it was Onosato who is a disgrace but either his master or hakkaku, perhaps both.
>>261512Hakkaku being a tremendous cake eating la-la homo man has been a known thing for a while now. His support of Fujinokawa's recklessness is probably the reason for his current "injury".
>>261513I'm so fucking pissed his insistence might've been what destroyed Onosato. His career, from everything I've been able to find in sports medicine might genuinely be over and watching his meteoric rise was some of my favorite time watching sumo, I am so gutted. I knew hakakku was retarded but he'd never as far as I paid attention been the cause for someone's direct downfall like this. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention.
>>261512Holy fuck they totally blundered the best japanese rikishi of this century didn't they.
>>261449I miss flashbulbs at sporting events so much. Made big moments feel even bigger.
The most infuriating part of this is how Hakkaku's own stable is so fucking low tier. Like nigga, if Isegahama had said this shit he might've had a point because of his 7-8 sekitori, but holy shit by the numbers Hakkaku is such a shit stablemaster, his entire authority comes from his rank and not his actual ability.
>>261517to be fair nishonoseki was basically gifted a mountainous powerhouse, other than Onosato and Shirokuma(kinda') is anyone else noteworthy in there?
>>261518No his stable basically sucks shit.
>>261512Nice schizo headcannon dude.
>>261520What is the headcannon part? Not the OP but seems like everything mentioned there was written in the media.
>>261521Mainly the parts where he assumes direct cause and effect based on statements made to the media. I don't care for people posting their opinions on how or why things happened the way they did as if they are speaking absolute fact from a position of greater insight. It's been shown many people will take shit like this at face value, example Chris Sumo's older videos where he speaks as if he knew wrestler's inner thoughts.Further assuming the extent of the injury and it's progression. As well as Onosato's own feelings and decisions towards it and the extent to which he took outside opinion and direction. For better or worse it's been shown that many decisions in each stable are left up to the wrestler to handle themselves at all levels of sumo. I want to clarify I don't see Onosato, Kisenosato, or Hakkaku as a disgrace in this situation. Hakkaku shit talks, that's just what he does, this doesn't have direct consequences.
>>261522tl;dr
>>261523
>>261522>For better or worse it's been shown that many decisions in each stable are left up to the wrestler to handle themselves at all levels of sumo.I don't see how you can say this when they are pressured every time by their elders in public spaces. I can't even imagine what it's like behind the curtains. Even if the decision is eventually up to the wrestler, they still live and are influenced by this system where everyone is expected to fight through,>Hakkaku shit talks, that's just what he does, this doesn't have direct consequences. You say this like he is just some bloke who is a fan of sumo, but in fact he is the top guy. His comments represent the whole JSA and the sport. His leadership is a direct cause of the career decline of the most promising rikishi. There could be a world where the sumo elders treat injuries like real problems with real solutions, instead of treating them like some fault of the psyche, where the rikishi is "just not working hard enough".
>>261526Look, I understand you hate Hakkaku, and I agree that I would prefer for "sumo" as a whole to treat injuries differently.I'm not disagreeing that sumo elders have influence on those below them. But again, you act like his comments have a direct and provable outcome on a wrestler's decisions, which is insane. It's entirely possible Onosato himself felt surgery wasn't necessary at an earlier point. We however don't know.
>>261528No I don't hate Hakkaku, he is also a victim of the same system. His career also ended the same way.But I do wish he would try to make systematic improvements, instead of furthering the problem, especially in an era where sumo is making a resurgence. >But again, you act like his comments have a direct and provable outcome on a wrestler's decisions, which is insane.I think it's insane you are saying it doesn't.
>>261530Alright, no reason to argue over your opinion. Have a good basho, I too hope we see Oonosato healthy again.

>>261474buy an ad
>>261485>Kirishima proves why hes always gonna be an ozeki not a yokozunaliterally has more yusho than the current yokozuna lmao
>>261528>But again, you act like his comments have a direct and provable outcome on a wrestler's decisions, which is insane.the guy is basically like everyone's boss, there's a very clear power dynamic here that happens in literally any career and I believe it's a little lame to suggest just because Hakkaku didn't personally directly ask these guys to be reckless doesn't mean there wasn't any influence.but I'm not gonna blame Hakkaku personally. These shoulder ligament injuries are a hell of a thing and even if they had done everything in the world it could have already ended Onosato's career regardless.>It's entirely possible Onosato himself felt surgery wasn't necessary at an earlier point.and really, a lot of this has a lot to do with the medical assessment of the injury. You take professionals at their word and sometimes they are wrong. Everyone involved must've been given the impression it wasn't so serious or torn, that it would get better with rest and PT.My own mother went through something bizarrely similar, for like 6 years different ortho told her that her shoulder wasn't so serious, just giving her regular cortisone shots. only like the 4th ortho actually had her get an MRI and they saw that same ligament was ripped to shreds. Except Onosato isn't a woman in her 60s. He's an absolute beast of an athlete in his prime, constantly exerting himself to the limits. He's a fucking national hero Japan born Yokozuna and they knew EXACTLY when he got injured. So why are they half-assing his diagnostics? Why are they just now talking about surgery? I feel like if you're such a high risk for a tear like this they should be taking a closer look.
>His leadership is a direct cause of the career decline of the most promising rikishi. >but I'm not gonna blame Hakkaku personallyWill you give it a rest, you blithering idiot?

>Clown posters can't count to four
>>261927>>261945"a" is for azukari, which is when the bouts were too close to call before they introduced torinaoshi. "d" is for when both wrestlers are unable to continue, either due to exhaustion or injury, before they introduced a mandatory break if the bout has gone on too long. I'm assuming "o" is just sumodb's internal term for "other" since the only examples are from the feudal periods. There was also a specific term for when both wrestlers were absent for the same bout, but this is listed as a normal absence for both.
>>262189>red belt symbolism>blue belt symbolism
oh boy its gonna be another "wakatakakage flubs his ozeki promotion" episode
>>262197I mean, he needs like 12 wins to get 32 even. So very unlikely unless the sanyaku decide to take a vacation again. If he can get 10-11, he has a decent chance in September
The YDC has spoken: (regarding Kirishima) "Next tournament, a high-level championship will be required of him. It won't be easy and it will certainly be strict, but he must deliver results no matter who the opponent is. Both his final record and the overall quality of his bouts will matter."
>>262203So 13-2 probably won't fly unless both losses are at the hands of yokozuna. It's all academic anyway, because Kirishima's a choke artist.
>>262203They said the same bullshit about horse and then promoted him on the 'strength' of a weak af yusho, they'll give it to kiriSHITma on another 12 win JY because they're afraid of being accused of racism if they don't
>>262119You need to know that Niggatame is the number one fan favorite on /xs/
>>262203This basho really shouldnt count
>>262203The YDC didn't say that. Asakayama-oyakata, currently the chief judge, is the one who said it. The YDC isn't part of the JSA. It's common for them to comment on the performances of other rikishi, but that's different from saying "this ozeki is up for promotion next tournament."
>>262209I can confirm this is true.

>>262220What the fuck? What do you even call this position? Why is he spreading so much?
>>262205>>262210This basho shouldn't count imo but given that it seems set in stone now that a JY is a Y equiv, it's what we gotta live with. Although, I am glad that they are adjusting the strength needed of the Y based on the JY. So the weaker the JY, the stronger the Y has to be. And honestly, I don't even think a 13-2 with losses only to the Zunas will be enough. It's gotta be 14-1 or better imo. Too many top guys were out this basho and they have two Zunas right now. >>262211It's still important to note, as it sets some bar for what Kiri needs to be considered by the judges for Zuna recommendation.
So, continuing on from /sp/, I created a profile on france.tv for the upcoming jungyo and the site is indeed region locked. It also asks you to turn off adblockers. Still not sure if I'll bother setting it up directly or be at the mercy of restreamers. I'd just hate to see the stream taken down in the middle of the thing and then have to look for a new one.
>>262223>given that it seems set in stone now that a JY is a Y equivNot sure what you mean by this. This has been a thing since the post-Futahaguro standards were put in place. A yusho is a yusho, a jun-yusho needs to be weighed on its merits. A 12-3 JY where the winner goes 14-1 is not the same as a 12-3 JY with a playoff loss. Yes, the lack of ozeki and yokozuna in this basho need to be taken into consideration but it's also not his fault no one around him can stay healthy. But to erase the doubts, this is exactly why a "high-level championship" will be required, per the YDC. Most likely, that's 15-0 or 14-1. 13-2 yusho probably won't be enough in any case, unless everyone's healthy, and all the yokozuna and ozeki put in good performances, with those losses coming at the hands of previous cup winners; and even then it's iffy.

>>262378normally I'd agree with you but like 4 of the people who were supposed to give him losses were kyujoI guess these things happen, they clearly need to reevaluate what's going on with injuries if this many guys are gonna have to sit out.
https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202605240002273.html>On May 24, 2026, the final day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament, it was confirmed that Yokozuna Onosato of the Nishonoseki stable will participate in the upcoming Paris exhibition tour on June 13–14. Onosato sat out the entirety of the Summer Tournament—his first full tournament absence—after submitting a medical certificate on May 8 stating he required approximately one month of treatment for a left rotator cuff injury.
>>262384>left rotator cuff injuryHow bad can these actually get?
>>262385typically doesn't heal on its own very well and often requires surgerymy mom had this done and the recovery was months of PTbasically I would be completely unsurprised if his career is already over

>>262386Oh fuck.
>>262385Since they didn't describe it as a tear, even partially, and the recovery is only a month, it's probably just tendonitis and not a big deal if he doesn't go full retard, which he obviously will since he's in Kisenosato's stable. A partial tear can be handled without surgery in a few months, but might need surgery if that doesn't work. A full tear needs surgery with at least a year of recovery.Expect him to be intai by the end of next year because him and Kisenosato are both brain dead rock-headed morons who won't let injuries properly recover, meaning this will graduate from tendonitis to a tear.
>>262344>>262349Considering his sparring partners are jonidan and some sandanme, he's doing really well

>Mita>Nabatame>Okaryu>Kiryuko>Asahifuji>Wakanofuji>Omori>TenshoyamaWho's taking the Makushita crown in July? The smart money's on Asahifuji but no one's ever gone 28-0 in regulation before and he's got some beasts to get through. He only beat Mita because Mita didn't want to risk his tender ACL. Dude wasn't even supposed to be competing yet and he went 6-1.Curious to see if Omori eats his chanko or if he wants to try his luck staying at his current physique. He was completely powerless against Asahifuji in their match.
>>262409Because him and Kisenosato are both brain dead rock-headed morons who won't let injuries properly recover.
>>262417>Omori
>>262415He will return, don't worry
>>262420Yeah just like 20 other guys who licked juryo once and are now bouncing around makushita with 4-3 and 3-4
>>262419Omori didn't lose because of size (he's 120kg which is plenty). He lost because Asahifuji has spent 2-3 years training with Isegahama sekitori under the guidance of two Yokozuna. They call him the strongest rookie in history for a reason. I wanna see zabutons on his first loss.
>>262417>>262419I think Oomori needs experience more than chanko. Ryushou needs more chanko, he's same weight as Oomori, but struggles in ms joi.Tenshouyama on the other hand, lol, he's at 175 now. Kid is Akebono 2.0 in the making.
>>262422Asahi came in after Arashifuji juryou promotion interview and asked the reports if he can now do some shiko... it's not even a week after basho, dude's crazy.
>>262423Tenshoyama would be the talk of the town right now in a normal world. He's had three losses so far. Two were Asahifuji, and the other was Kiryuko. Talk about debuting at a bad time lmao.>>262424Is he /our/ autist?

>>262419After watching his interview before the May basho I think the reason why he has no sekitori is because he's just a bad coach.
>>262227Is there a reason as to why some of them are wearing the non-regular dark green/yellow kimonos? There's one which is bright green with white accents and one which is white with blue accents
>>262434Not really. They've just had different color combos over the years.
>>262430He could be good if he could actually move a bit. Look at Tatsunami doing some light dumbbell exercises and having half of his beya in makushita or above.
>>262426just got back into watching beya sloppa and saw they’re all wearing yukatas now. Did the sumo association put out some kind of notice about it?
>>262437I don't know if there was an official statement or anything, but yes.

>>262430Props to him for basically admitting that the Hawaiians were dominant through sheer physicality at least. Does his stable have a Mong?
>>262450They have a Dan.
>>262452Oh yeah.Right :/
>>262447>>262435Awesome, thanks! Personally I cannot imagine wearing that kind of attire all the damn since I remember how much I hated wearing a kimono when I was training karate. I wonder if they actually mind it at all
Jesus, 20 intais this time around. Turns out the popularity of beyaslop means nothing for recruitment numbers. They really need to fire Hakkaku and give based Kaio the Chairman slot. Someone who isn't an uptight humourless faggot with a stick up his ass would do wonders for Ozumo.
>>262454Yukata are designed to be light and easy to move in. They were summer casual wear before westernization. They're not thick formal kimono or martial arts keikogi (which themselves were derived from heavy firefighting clothes).
>>262452How is he only 133kg? Musashimaru was born at that weight.
I think the number of tournaments should be reduced to four, one for each season. Six tournaments in a year is great financially and for the fans but it's ripping the bodies of the sumo wrestlers apart. In a sport where recruitment numbers are already historic low, sumo needs to retain it's established wrestlers even more so. Fewer tournaments means more time to heal up and recover.
>>262459I think you're gay but Hakkaku doesn't give a fuck about that either.
>>262459Sumo has had six honbasho a year since 1958. If modern wrestlers are incapable of handling the workload of rikishi more than 60 years ago then there's another problem with modern sumo not related to the number of basho.
The problem lies not with sumo, but with the world.
>>262455speaking of this, does anyone have a chart showing total wrestler numbers over time? i remember seeing an image like that once.
>>262469Easy to make one
>>262471thanks

>>262230you talk like a fag and your shits all jacked up
>>262466It certainly doesn't help that the rikishi used to average 130 kilo and now they are 170.
>>262455We can split the recruits in 3 groups (using Futagoyama rikishi as an example):1. recruits coming from universities who have attained decent results in sumo already like Mita2. recruits joining sumo because they were told to try it by their families, like Tsukioka or Wakamiyabi3. recruits who ave no prospect in life and barely finish high-school like Kouga and your average NEETs who just want to eat food, like Souga.
>>262480Adult daycare for manchildren
>>262475>Average Sanyaku weight per official weights in Hakkaku's last yusho154kg>Average Sanyaku weight per official weights in the last basho163kgThe former number is being bulked up hard by the existence of Konishiki, and the latter still has Atamin at 180kg when he's basically 200kg at this point.
>>262480Wouldn't Koga fall into the category of being pushed into it by family owing to how he's the grandson of Mienoumi?
>>262426Whose that fat gaijin bastard in tatsunami stable looks like fat bastard from austin powers
>>262487(((Yarden))), who missed his ozumo debut age by serving in the IDF
>>262489He missed the age limit because everyone went really stupid in 2020 and he physically couldn't join up.
>>262489>>262491It was unlikely they would've taken him even if he was the right age. Guy had zero background in ANY martial art, let alone sumo. Bloatmaxxing on homemade jewish chanko isn't a big selling point.
>>262492>Guy had zero background in ANY martial artI'm sure I heard this about Kakuryu too and he did okay I guess.
>>262494Kakuryu joined at 14. Even without COVID, Yarden would've been in his early 20s at best. Training a teen from scratch is normal. Training a grown man from scratch is not worth the investment.
>>262495Lets not act like sumo is difficult, anon. Fujiryoga made it to Makuuchi on size alone and learned to belt fight in two months.
>>262496Fujiryoga started training sumo since he was in 4th grade, not in his 20s like Yarden. The IDF can keep coping about age limits and covid and antisemitism. At the end of the day, Yarden simply never had the makings of a varsity rikishi.
>>262497Small hands, thats his problem
>>262475Does anyone have a graph that charts the total mass of rishiki over time
>>262296Sometimes retardery can transcend national borders, anon.
>>262489serving your country and protecting it from foreign enemies is based and the bushido code demands that one does it. Yarden is a samurai chad and you are a sissy wimp, thats why Yarden makes you so upset, because the good example he sets also highlights your own pathetic shortcomings
>>262351>>262359Takeda has retired
Nothing of value was lost.
>>262492>zero background in ANY martial artJust admit that the Japanese were worried that a guy trained only in Krav Maga would become a dai yokozuna
>>262486it's whatever, but there's a huge difference between him and Yamanobe, who is 4th generation grandson of 31st yokozuna.>>262496If there is anyone making it because of size alone, it's Kazuma or Tenshouyama.
>>262507>>262506Sad but predictable. My prediction of his career was low division grinder anyway. My assessment was that he appeared to be a fat kid who just wanted to justify his fatness after the fact, rather than having any actual desire to do sumo.
