WTK is fucked
Hosh is fucked
Sato's shoulder is (still) fucked

Word on the street is the YDC has said they'll have a discussion if Kirishima wins July. At this rate he'll fucking zensho it and rope.
>>
>>265245
That's complete bullshit. If Kirishima can get promoted to yokozuna just for winning in July, the YDC should be completely disbanded because clearly there's no point to it anymore.
>>
>>265248
Uhhh anon he got a 12-3JY in May, losing in a playoff to WTK. 12-3JY 13-2Y would be a historically low standard hence why many people think the discussion starts at 14-1, but I mean seriously, look at the faggots wearing ropes right now. Byambachuluun Lkhagvasuren would've roped two years ago if his neck hadn't exploded.
>>
>>265249
Yes I'm aware and Hoshoryu's record should have never gotten him the promotion either. He's a good ozeki but nothing more. Onosato is the only actual yokozuna-material rikishi performing right now.
>>
>>265250
I'd argue uninjured Aonishiki is more impressive than uninjured Onosato and I'm not even OP, though his two yusho both being 12-3 is sorta weak. I miss May '25 Onosato who just held W all the time.
>>
>>265251
Let's see that gaijin win multiple days in a row with one arm like Onosato did. He would never be able to compete at Onosato's level while sustaining an injury.
>>
>>265252
The only puzzling thing about Onosato's injury is how he managed 10-5 in January. Maybe the presence of Emperor-sama helped. Dan was fighting with a broken toe in March thanks to Churanoumi, and couldn't fight in May thanks to the brother of the guy who JUST HAPPENED TO WIN IT. Lowkey conspiracy is WMH is scalping faggots so WTK can yusho. Just look at the way he threw Kirishima before even touching the rope, almost as if he knew Kirishima would land awkwardly on the edge of the dohyo and get injured.
>>
>Local Football(handegg) team had a player visit japan and did a little sumo wrestling

>>
Three Yokozuna are currently tied for the longest time as a Yokozuna post-promotion without a yusho: Hoshoryu, Kakuryu, and Futahaguro.
>>
>>265309
Nonsense. Futahaguro has held that record on his own for nearly 40 years.
>>
>>265310
Futahaguro spent 8 basho at Yokozuna before being dunked. Kakuryu spent 8 at Yokozuna before his first Yokoyusho. This will be Hoshoryu's 9th basho. If he doesn't yusho he takes the title away from Futahaguro and I will die on that hill of technicality because being worse than Futahaguro is a crazy datapoint. Both were at Tatsunami too BTW.
>>
>>265311
Bitching out and slapping your stablemaster's wife by itself makes Futahaguro the worst, but on top of that it's not just that he didn't win a yusho as yokozuna, but that he's the only yokozuna to have never won a yusho ever. Hoshoryu, even if he retires with no yusho at yokozuna, still won two.

Chiyoshoma.
>>
>This idiot is actually trying to say Futahaguro was good.
>>
No I'm trying to say that Futahaguro's failure to yusho is understandable because he was up against one of the all time greats. Same applies to Kisenosato. Hoshoryu simply has no excuse for his inability to win tournaments at this point. He's been sat on top of the banzuke since January and his greatest rival lost an arm in a car accident or something. He doesn't have any major injuries holding him back the way Kisenosato did either.

If Hosh doesn't yusho this time around I'm selling my Hoshcoin.

One that comes to my mind was Teddy Bridgewater.

>During a team practice on August 30, 2016, Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury to his left leg. An ambulance took Bridgewater off the field and the rest of practice was canceled. A subsequent MRI confirmed that he tore his ACL and suffered other structural damage, including a dislocation of the knee joint. The injury was so severe that Bridgewater was at risk of losing his leg, with the surgeon describing it as a "horribly grotesque injury... It's almost like a war wound. Everything is blown."

Haven't seen a tournament since January but I wanna pay extra attention to the July basho since im gonna get to see the September one in person for my trip to Tokyo! Anything I need to know? Retirements? Rising stars? Recent winners?
>>
>>265508
>he's going to get belt checked
By who? Roga? Ryuden is the belt-checker and he's in Juryo.
>>
>>265531
Makushita is better than Makuuchi right now because Asahifuji is going to meet a bunch of popular ex-sekitori plus a bunch of other rising stars like Omori and Wakanofuji.
>>
>>265530
thats shodai

March and May were complete shitshows
still plenty of good bouts but the amount of injuries is depressing.
>>
What bad fortune befalls Hoshoryu this time?
>>
>>265543
completely healthy, 11-4 jy
>>
>>265543
His bad fortune is being Hoshoryu
>>
>>265544
1-4 then drops the basho more like
>>
>>265521
Anon, that was his second Yusho.
>>
>>265549
Please be kind to the newfags, he has only watched 2 bashos

Nah.
>>
>>265543
Kirishima 11-4Y and Yokozuna promotion.
>>
>>265554
Would actually be an even more retarded criteria for promotion than Hoshoryu's. YDC means nothing if they just keep promoting any fucking ozeki that gets a few double digit wins in a row. Kirishima should not even be in consideration until he gets the emperors cup this and next tournament.
>>
>>265555
>Kirishima should not even be in consideration
Silly statement.
Yusho + Yusho playoff + Yusho = rope.
>>
>>265557
The only rope he deserves is a vertical one.
>>
I just want one of the top four to yusho...onegai...
>>
>>265557
The sekiwake yusho does not matter. He needs a very strong yusho to be promoted. 14 or 15 wins.
>>
>>265562
>The sekiwake yusho does not matter.
Nonsense.

I could see them looking at Kirishima's record favourably. So close to roping before, now at three yusho after coming back from injury. Part of me feels like any 12+ yusho might do it.
>>
>>265564
Agreed. I'd say 13+ though.

Hakuho
>>
>>265563
No that's literally how it works.
>>
>>265577
You're trying to tell me that past performance isn't taken into account. Think about that.
>>
>>265578
How is it that retards still don't understand that only performance at ozeki counts for yokozuna promotion?
>>
>>265579
... and the hypothetical performance in question would be Yusho playoff + Yusho.
My point is that the Yusho before those two would strengthen the case, and you think it wouldn't, YOU are the retard.
>>
>>265564
The fact he was an ozeki before and only recently reached back to ozeki when the top 3 guys are injured as fuck is not a point in his favour.
>>
>>265579
The truth is that unless the actual written requirements in the regulations are met (back to back yusho or yusho-equivalent at ozeki) the YDC can use whatever other criteria they want to support or deny a promotion. They're the ones talking about it amongst themselves, nobody else, not even the JSA execs. Guaranteed the sekiwake yusho was a point in Hoshoryu's favor, and it will be for Kirishima if he yushos again this month, because to the YDC it displays previous success which to them would make future success more likely.
>>
>>265582
And RECENT previous success.
>>
>>265582
I don't think that's quite true about the YDC, they advise the JSA, but there is still an internal decision made by a JSA department. I forget what the exact name is... head of officiating, or head of judging or something like that.
>>
>>265585
Other way around. The JSA can advise the YDC, but the YDC has final authority over yokozuna promotions.
>>
>>265586
Sort of. The head of judging gets the chairman to call a meeting, then the chairman asks the YDC if they recommend, so if the JSA doesn't ask, the YDC has no say. The JSA always sides with the YDC's decision, but it's their call whether to ask for a decision in the first place.

a 12-3 jy 12-3 y would be an unbelievably weak promotion
>>
>>265588
it would never happen, 13w Y might be enough or it might not. But I don't think he can get 13 wins.
>>
>>265578
Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.

Anyone interested in crafting a nice bet? The main problem is I don't follow Japanese language news, only English "rumors" such as (((Chris))), Tachiai blog and 4chan

I've marked with a green triangle all wrestlers who have any chance of yusho in my opinion.

>Hoshoryu
As I understand he's still not 100%, and he struggles or chokes anyway. So I discarded him.
>Onosato
No idea, is he back and healthy? If he is, then he's the absolute favourite.
>Kotozakura
Not going to happen, he's probably going MK again
>WTK
Is out, that he's still on as of today is free money
>Aonishiki
Supposedly healthy? But how much do we know? I've left him in.

I've put some lower ranked guys who may pull off a clown basho. However, their insanely high odds mean the bottom half of guys use only around 25% of my stake or less. The maegashitters whom I have not marked will NEVER win a top division yusho, ever. Fujinokawa may be the exception, but he's definitely not there yet.

Pic related has:
Total Implied Probability: 0.7876 (or 78.76%)
Total Expected Return: $126.96 from a $100 layout.
Net Profit Margin: +26.96%

>>
>>265594

>>
>>265587
The YDC has their own regular meetings without JSA prompting, where stuff like that is discussed. What would happen in reality is the YDC would discuss it, someone from the YDC would tell someone from the rankings committee what their decision was, and then the two would go through the formal process to rubber-stamp it. That way neither party loses face in public if the JSA recommends someone that the YDC denies, or the YDC publicly says they want to promote someone without the JSA asking.
>>
>>265596
Other way around. The head of judging requests that the chairman hold a meeting. Same thing for ozeki, except in this case the meeting takes into consideration the YDC's recommendation. But it is the JSA who initiates.

>>265543
15-0 but every victory is via a self-inflicted loss by the opponent

Kotoshoho was the 3rd highest ranked rikishi still in the basho by the end of May. At that point in time he'd still never had a KK in the joi.

I'll be there. This is my first post in the /xs/ sumo threads. I don't know if anyone remembers, but I was the anon whose father was fighting brain cancer. He actually just passed this Monday, so I'm basically telling the rest of the world to fuck off for this entire week, and the July basho will be a most welcome distraction from everything I'm feeling right now.
It's funny. Some of our last good moments together were him joining me out in the living room to watch the May basho. He wasn't a sumo fan, had never watched before, but he watched it with me when he could (meaning when he wasn't so exhausted that he just wanted to sleep). He would ask me questions constantly and comment on the exciting moves. Looking back, I honestly believe he just wanted to spend some time with me.
He fought to the very end just like a rikishi.
So yeah, thank you to all of you for welcoming me into the threads. May was the first full basho I watched, and I'm looking forward to this one.
>>
>>265671
Sorry for your loss, and ganbatte!
>>
>>265648
Not really, there's plenty of slower threads on there right now. Our real problem is the sheer amount of tourists we're going to get. I can't remember if a direct link to M*dnight gets put in the OP but it might be worth it for the tourists.

>>265632
>>265635
Point is to cover the possibility of a clown basho, that's why so many low rankers are included.
Still the cost of covering the likes of Kazuma or Kotoeiho or anyone over 30 are minimal.

The real question would be in knowing if anybody out of the big 4 are wrecked not definitely not going to win. I am under the assumption that Hosh has not recovered, but Onosato and Aonishiki have, but my information is extremely limited.
The possibility to get a premium on this basho is open already because two "favourites", Zak and WTK are not going to win for sure.
>>
Do they not do all-stables practice anymore, or did I miss it?
>>
>>265675
Onosato is the only question mark because he's been a retard about his shoulder for so long. He's more likely to go 0-3 than 3-0. And honestly any bet you want to put on outsiders just pile it all on Kazuma, the guy really is something else and this is the only basho where he's going to be able to farm losers for easy wins. Sure Kotoeiho looked great last basho but he was M13 and one of his wins was a fusen. He'll be lucky to go 9-6 in my imo.
>>
>>265671
My condolences anon, hope you can enjoy the basho atleast a little
