It does help to know how to do both on their own but fs flip is its own thing and you will have to figure out the time for every individual component of the trick in order to be able to have them down. That's what i mean by "a bunch of small puzzles that requires creative thinking". The better you get at it, the easier it gets.

But after that I could never varial kickflip again and I've never once been able to land a normal straight non rotating kickflip. The trick, for me, is I keep my front shoe totally in line with toe side rail of the board. Not hanging over it or pulled back but the toe of my front sole right on the toe edge. When I scoop and lift my front foot, I jump off my back scooping foot, then the front foot controls the rotation of the board. You should hover your front foot just above the height of your desired pop shuvit and hover just above the board. This stops it from flipping varial kickflips and landing primo. I had a bad problem of landing primo in pop shuvits and that front foot raise and keeping it flat straight over the board the whole rotation seems key to me. I'd say if youre having trouble getting the front foot off the board in general try standing with your front foot on the floor, scooping the board with your back foot and jumping that way. So there's no risk of falling and the boards gonna fly away, but you can practice the timing of getting the front foot in the air. Then practice being on the board and purposefully over scooping and flipping the board away without landing on it. That should give you the feel of transitioning your weight like 80% to the back foot to do the trick. If you're focusing too much on your front foot you're going to put too much weight and force on the front foot and you'll never get in the air. Shuvits like ollies like heelflips like tre flips and lazer flips, everything comes from a manual balance point. The more you feel like youre "popshuviting from a manual" the better your balance scoop and everything will be
