Musashimaru's stint as an Ozeki must've been crazy to watch, especially in the age of Akebono and the Hanada brothers. Guy went over five years without a single makekoshi, and went a year and a half without dropping below double digits. Japan is lucky the Hanada brothers were there to fend off the Hawaiians because god damn.

kiriSHITma's performance in Nagoya can't be considered a JY because he didn't finish in 2nd place. Dan won both of his playoff matches and won the tournament, Atamifuji won half of his playoff matches and came in 2nd place and kiriSHITma lost all of his playoff matches finishing last. Thats not a JY and not a yusho equivalent, not even almost one.

>>
>>269277
his last two were 9 wins and 12 wins and they generally promote if there are 3 strong finishes that total 33+ wins
so a 12-3 in september should do it. 11-4 probably wouldn't be enough
>>
>>269292
12-3 would equal 33 wins but there's a strong propensity for Ozeki runs to end on a yusho. KiriSHITma's latest one did, Dan's one did, Sato's one did. Zak's didn't but it was the best result of the three, a 13-2 playoff loss.

Movement being partly determined by the movement of those around you doesn't explain why they'd break the rule of never promoting someone with a makekoshi, unless they simply don't take relative placement into account.

How can you possibly reward someone who didn't fulfil the basic requirement of winning?

Duh. Sanyaku are special. Nobody cares about relative placement for anything other than the total makuuchi size and that's only for budget reasons. Maegashira are only ranked relative to each other.
>>
>>269372

The point it is not a hard and fast rule because it's happened several times, mostly in the 60s when the sanyaku was bigger. (Also 2011.05, lol)
If that doesn't mean anything to you then you need to state your question better, because I don't see your point either.

>>269384
I can SORT OF understand not wanting to catapult Daieisho from M4e to S1w on a 10-5, but a first time Sanyaku going to S1w from 8-7 at M1e just feels crazy to me, especially in light of Oshoma's rank demonstrating that they don't factor relative placement into anything.
>>
>>269382
>claims that promoting on MKs is breaking a rule
>is shown that it is not a rule

What you're doing is experiencing cognitive dissonance between believing you're right and reality showing you that you are wrong. To protect your psyche from ego damage, the inciting information is being allowed to slide off of your brain like water off a duck's back. I am now making you conscious of this phenomenon. Hope that helps

Now go through each of those 'zuckies and show me a M4e with an established track record of Sanyaku performance going 10-5 and being denied S1w.
>>
>>269391
Why? M4 rarely goes to Sekiwake on 10 wins. Hell, they're more likely to stay rank-and-file than go to Sekiwake.
>>
>>269392
Kotoshoho jumped to S1w from M5w on 11-4. Look faggot, they overpromoted Fujinokawa at the expense of Daieisho. That's all there is to it and you can't convince me otherwise.
>>
>>269391
>with an established track record of Sanyaku performance
This is an irrelevant qualifier. How much a maegashira or lower sanyaku is promoted and demoted is dependent entirely on their performance in the most recent basho. Longer term performance is only looked at for ozeki and yokozuna (unless you have an ego to stroke and are worried about lack of yokozuna on an upcoming foreign tour).
>>
>>269394
The only factor I'd be willing to consider is Fujinokawa's recent obliteration of Y*kozuna.

How on earth could an indian rikishi gain weight? Chronic diarrhea—causing him to pass everything he eats within the hour—would prevent him from absorbing calories and putting on weight. It is scientifically impossible for us to have an indian rikishi; they would have to surgically insert an intestinal plug, and even then, there would be a risk of a rikishi rupturing it during a bout, unleashing a shower of diarrhea onto the audience.

An Indian is incompatible with the concept of hinkaku.

it's when damage or swelling prevents blood from circulating through a muscle bundle and it starts to swell and die

the treatment is to cut the limb open like a ham and leave it open for a week until swelling subsides

muscle death, permanent nerve damage, lifelong pain are all fairly common outcomes

Hazing itself is not a bad thing. What else do you call it when the older boys initiate the new boy into the group with an activity that they all had to do too?

It gives the new boy positive attention and bonds him to the group with a shared experience.

Hazing is bad thing only when, like so many other things, some asshole takes it too far. Doing chest-lending to exhaustion is fine.

That newer spelling is ateji (kanji used for phonetic reasons, not meaning) designed to hide the original spelling of the term. Originally it was called "醜名" with the literal meaning of "disgraceful name." The original professional sumo wrestlers were ronin with no other job opportunities after the civil wars had all ended, so they organized public sumo spectacles to earn a living. The shikona were used to hide their real identities, since ronin were supposed to be forbidden from lower caste employment including public sumo. It wasn't until sumo became more formalized that the spelling changed.
"四股" is the spelling for shiko by the way, the foot-stomping exercise.
