Blender vs Maya.>Do you even use the software you claim is inferior? If so how much time did you spend using it?>Are you a professional?>Are you criticizing the software as a whole or something specific? 3D is a vast artform with many technical hurdles. Some packages are better at doing one thing than the other.
>>1005416>i use both>over 10 years of serious use in maya>used blender since 2006, ironically it hasnt improved much>im the guy who's waiting for the right offer >i wish blender was more like maya, but free and open source
>>1005417From a technical point of view what would you say Maya has to offer that Blender doesn't for someone with no frame of reference other than Blender?
>>1005418maya at least has a stable API across 3 different languages, mel, python, and c++. You kind of get into huge trouble with speed with python api calls. In blender, you have to fork the entire program to get c++. That is absolute hell.
>>1005419and when i say its hell i mean it stinks really really bad because no one else can use what you made unless they download and compile some shady repo you have. It just doesnt work that way with maya. You get speed, and you dont have the bs
>>1005421>pay 2000€ to autodeskAutocels are masochistic chuds. Blender is free and gives the same tools.
>>1005422maya is $250 a year. Again, blender doesnt even have a C++ api. Like, it doesn't exist. Scripting with the blender python api calls is multiple orders of magnitude slower. Unusable. If you don't realize this, I don't know what to tell you man except you are probably making a donut or chair or anvil or something
>>1005423and the big thing is that you use your c++ api to bring in your gpu to crunch as well, all of which you can do with maya
I've used both. I prefer blender because i'm more familiar with it and it's more easy imo. if I was anything more than a hobbyist I would definitely do maya, it's simply superior. ask anyone that makes 3d that isn't a degen pornographeror blender tutorial drone what their main software is and they will tell you it's maya or maybe zbrush or houdini. but the answer will never be blender.
>>1005429You want to know the only thing bad about maya? The program is actually too advanced and it becomes really hard to teach it to its full potential. It's kind of like something I've seen before in other software that went out of business or for another example instructional videos that only cater to people that are already super expert.
>>1005419>>1005421>>1005422>>1005423This is a pipeline issue. Same goes for things like support or stability in the industry. Someone that isn't in the industry probably doesn't care about this stuff. I don't even know what API is or what you are talking about but I'm not over here needing a render farm for a feature length film I am just doing stuff like modding games.
>>1005429>Main software>Zbrush and Houdini.LOL imagine using these to polymodel anything.
>>1005416The fact that this is even talked about is proof that something is going on with the software. Nobody bats an eye at most freeware. When was the last time you saw someone compare Photoshop to Gimp? It just doesn't happen.
>>1005429I don't know enough about Maya or Max to really say anything about them but it seems like whenever someone talks about how much better they are it is in this very nebulous matter of fact sort of way. Sort of comes across like cope.
>>1005416Personally I agree that Blender is not the best tool when it comes to specific things in 3D like sculpting, texturing or simulation. When it comes to those things a package like Zbrush for sculpting, Substance for texturing and Houdini for simulation makes sense. Maya is more advanced when it comes to things like rigging and animation I imagine but how? Can someone explain to me what it can do that Blender can't with rigify?
>>1005416Arnold vs Cycles X vs Mantra vs Karma vs Redshift vs Octane.
>>1005416Everyone always goes on about Maya but never Max. What's the difference? Why does Autodesk have two packages that essentially do the same thing?
>>1005417So what do you do in Maya? Are you a modeler or an animator or..?
>>1005460porn animator
>>1005452no, a pipeline issue is when you are dealing with 10,000 objects and need to switch from using alembic to using USD and material X.You have no clue what you are talking about
>>1005479Chud, you have no clue. Go back to blender
>>1005417In your opinion Blender hasn't improved much since 2006? What do you even use it for, rendering in cycles?
>>1005479>You have no clue what you are talking aboutI openly admit that I don't know. Would you care to explain it?
>>1005429>zbrush or houdiniHey that's me>>1005453>LOL imagine using these to polymodel anythingModeler plugin (100$)
>>1005491>UHHHH OHHHH MUHHH 5000€ 600 PLUGINS AAAAAAAA
>>1005487>What do you even use it for, rendering in cycles?I have to convert all my new maya tools into blender so I can post on blender artists and reddit. I read a lot of the source too. I also do comparisons in blender between cycles and renderman for blender
>>1005518also, i like to make a new blender fork to prototype out stuff instead of having to do all sorts of work to get vfx libs to work somewhere else.
>>1005518>>1005522I don't get it, do you actually use Blender for anything 3D related? This isn't /g/.
>>1005527He just told you; he uses Blender to make forks. This is the one thing Blender does better than Maya.
>>1005530My sides
