why does it look like that when i shade smooth, still learning ig plz help, whats the best way to make a hole or hole shaped stuff, wich is usefull for modeling guns and vehicles

>>1020814Your normals are inside out. You can probably fix it by just going to edit mode, selecting all the faces then recalculating out/inside. Make sure you learn how to see the backfaces too though, its important
>>1020835wdym normals are inside out? i just extruded inwarss, sorry im new and not smart
>>1020850You have to remodel the cube. It failed
>>1020850also btw can we be your friends on discord and steam?
>>1020852online friends arent real, i live middle of nowhere also so idk
>>1020851remodel? i just added basic cube, subdivide with rigth click, then loop cut, and did that, maybe this emthod waasnt good, im still new, confused and dumb
>>1020814Go to Mesh Data Properties (the tab with the upside down green triangle, to the bottom right) > Normals > Auto Smooth > 30°You can also go in Edit Mode > Select Edges > Press your right mouse button > Mark As Sharp, and in the Mesh Data Properties set the degrees to 180°: this will essentially allow you to manually define which edges should be sharp and which not>best way to make a hole or hole shaped stuff, wich is usefull for modeling guns and vehiclesIt's "useful", with only one "l".You're very rarely going to need a circular hole in a square shape, the only example I can think of is a muzzle break for guns. I advise to rely on Cylinder and Cube primitive shapes instead, if you need to make a barrel of a gun, add a Cylinder to your scene > Inset top and bottom faces > Select the edge loops around the holes > Bridge Edge Loop
>>1020856Is this some kind of troll? Type adequately you stupid fuck, people are trying to help you so the least you can do is put the effort in typing proper english, you're not even trying
>>1020859oh ok thanks u, i am lost then idk what the best way to make guns or vehicles and stff blender is very unintuitive and booleans arent a good idea apparently :(
>>1020861Stfu nigger lmao, if you're retarded gtfo this thread and get your fat skull shagged back into place.
>>1020835Looks more like shading along the vertices that were created when the hole was cut out
>>1020862>>1020859auto smooth is a noob trap. Because it gives you the false idea that you can automate sharp edges. When you really cant. Autosmooth is useful for lazy people making super simple models. But when you go to make more complex stuff like guns, autosmooth will fuck up your model, and you'll have to turn it off anyway. So it's best to just never turn it on in the first place. Manually create your sharp edges with intention.
>>1020896For me autosmooth works good as a first step during modelling of low poly stuff, but at some point, it often makes sense to apply it and manually adjust sharp edges (in some stuff I've been doing lately, autosmooth got like 80-90% of sharp edges, but the rest I needed to mark manually, kinda useful than having to do it 100% yourself, especially when you're still moving vertices around and in position where it is useful to have it readjusted on the fly for you).
