Many characters seem to have very dry skin materials regardless of the lighting setups and presets I've used. This seems mostly from forender characters and totocandy. How would I go about adjusting this? They characters do have spec and glossy maps for the most part but adjusting the values makes little difference in rendered view.

How they could be using AI:
- Conversion of images to Genesis poses
- Intuiting animations from poses
- Face transfer that actually works

How they are using AI:

How can I get sharper images?
Even when I focus the camera properly, or even turn the DOF off completely, I still can't get a really sharp image. Maybe the idea is to render at super-high resolutions, like 8K for example, and then reduce the original image to full HD or something? Or maybe there's some camera operation I'm not using properly? Letting too much light into its virtual shutter or some shit?
>>
>>980337
post example
>>
>>980337
changing the pixel filter radius in your render settings can have an impact in the sharpness a bit. The default is set to 1.5, setting it lower will sharpen the image a bit. If you're looking for hard sharpness that is seen in a lot of Daz renders these days, that will have to be done in postprocessing.
>>
So the Pixv bans killed this software, right? Let's be real, Daz exists mainly for one type of content, and now that there's no place to distribute it (or monetize it), it just serves no purpose.

want to get into daz3d (or some other character modeling program), watched a few tutorials but still don't understand the overall usage, specifically when it comes to body types. Are you able to fully make your own body/character on your own WITHOUT dumping money in the asset store? Or are these programs inherently useless without heavy usage of an asset store. My initial thinking was that these programs were akin to a more advanced character creator from a video game, a body with dozens of sliders for reshaping various body sections and that bought characters are just easy ways to get to a specific body type WITHOUT tweaking every little customization, but at first glance that doesn't seem to be the case(?).
>>
>>980663
Daz3D is worthless if you are unable to acquire assets.
>>
DAZ is just 99% used for porn, isn't it? Or do people actually use it for anything else?

Is there a way to make daz transfer utility to do not change the position of the shoes I modeled on blender?

I autistically modeled a pair of short boots and made fit perfectly to the feet of my model but Daz insist in slightly changing the position of the boots. I didn't autistically modeled the slight diagonal and heel position for daz to just decide to fuck my auti... perfectionism.

I'm thinking it just would be easier to just parent the boots without autofit, have rigged boots on blender, use the position of the daz boots to position the rigged boots, then just make slight adjustments. I compose in blender anyway.

If you're just looking for height, there are some freebies on deviantart that are essentially just a plane with measurements
>>
>>980343
My examples are NSFW, but I think the other anon is correct.

>>980367
Yeah, I guess that helps a bit, but really, super-sharp images don't seem to be possible, probably because the resolution of the textures of the objects, skin, hair, etc., also impacts the final result.

>>980494
DAZ is apparently widely used in the corporate world. There are also a lot of smaller budget things like commercials, movies, etc., that use assets bought from the DAZ Store because they're so cheap.

I only know about ArtStation.

But know this: Serious artists render with Maya, they don't use Daz.
Take a look at:

Then you can check:
https://www.artstation.com/search?sort_by=relevance&query=Maya%20Arnold

As for the best of Daz, they're employed by Daz itself and are involved in official daz products (Daz Original), like Victoria and such.

newb here, when adding an outfit (gen 8) and then deleting one of the pieces the skin remains indented from that piece. Is there any way to fix or prevent that?
>>

the creator included a "pressure" shapekey to be loaded in alongside the outfit because they are a PIECE OF SHIT, you just gotta look at currently used sliders on the model and turn it off from there.

why the fuck does every outfit from the daz store include additional sliders to increase the "modesty" of the garment, but no way to reduce the modesty? Every piece of clothing that goes over the breasts/vagina, courtesy sliders for increasing the amount of skin that is covered by the garment.

first time using Daz, pretty neat. I remember hearing from Thundornd that Daz isn't really meant for animation. Any recommendations for a program to use to try out creating your own animations? haven't looked for marvelous designer yet, just looked into it. I tried finding a working crack of CC4, or just CC in general, but the few sites I saw that had it looked very shady and the links didn't work anyway. Plus, with these programs it seems like there is a HEAVY dependency on an asset library, which means having to find working links for those specific assets as well. >>
>>981675
G9 is "bad" because it adds nothing to the table but was an attempt to stay relevant and try and compete with the "Direct to UE5/blender" pipeline.
Also the topology is bad for female bodies.
That being said it does have some advantages like a unified mesh between sexes and great for doing humaniod creatures.
Also the massive library of characters and assets made for genesis 8 are now somewhat obsolete while genesis 9 have still very little content. This could have been easily rectified by having a conversion tool from gen8 -> gen9 for characters and clothes but that was not ready by launch (not even sure there is one now).
>>
>>981675
it has a unified mesh for male and female characters which means there's no mesh topology for the nipples so you have to use geografts which have to be massive to fully replace the tits with g8 style topology

For some reasons some very, very tame Pixiv artists were b&n earlier this year (and later this previous years). Most have no idea why. We're talking as tame as Ganseki.

While some absurdly disgusting guro loli Daz artists were still allowed on the platform. No one has no idea why. The answer from pixiv is more or less "violating our policy", without telling what policy.

It is theorized that "good" (aka lifelike) Daz artists were banned, because they approach the quality of photorealism, while "bad" guro loli rapists were not, because no photorealism while they murder and eat loli, but literally no one knows why.

If you're "good" and only do vaguely underdressed pinup you're fine tho.

Kinda weird policy knowing the kind of absolute degenerate Guro 2d art being present on pixiv, little girls being eaten alive, etc.

easy answer is that because G9 suck
longer answer is that curvature detail driven completely through HD morphs and subdiv and only micro detail is stored in normals. Which makes G9 suck for low poly stuff ofc.

It was an image set featuring a character from a porn VN. They wanted more of her. It ended up being about 30 different images. Told a little story. I don't want to boast too much, but I get told my stuff doesn't look like DAZ, which is probably the highest, albeit, back handed compliment one can get. I do allot of custom morphs using Marvelous designer and Zbrush so clothing and skin aren't so static.

There's allot of money in the VN market. I've seen 50 to 80 dollar commissions routinely go to people using Koikatsu and Honey Select ONE.

Why does the damned transfer utility insist on messing up my mesh!? On the left is my mesh after the transfer utility, and on the right is how it should look. It took me a lot of effort to model the symmetric pants I wanted, and then DAZ specifically screws up the symmetry of my model. The pants are modeled over my morphed character with "reverse source shape from target" on. I also modeled the same pair of pants from scratch on the base model. It works on the base model, but it gets messed up when I apply it to my morphed figure.

Things I already tried:

>Triangulated mesh, mesh with only perfect quads, merging vertices at various distances. Mesh exported with groups, mesh exported without groups.
>All kinds of combinations of settings in the transfer utility dialogue.
>Using the original .OBJ as a morph.
>Exporting the original .OBJ from DAZ, then importing it and using it as a morph.
>Exporting the messed-up mesh to Blender, correcting the messed-up vertices, importing to DAZ, and using it as a morph.
>Dialing all hidden morphs to zero.
>Setting the pose to zero, setting the pose of the pants to zero.
>Setting the resolution to base (It crashes the program every single time when I try to apply the transfer utility).

All of this either does nothing or messes up everything even more. I don't know what else to try other than rig the pants myself.

Please halp.
>>
>>983666
heviestate3d may have the kind of chungus morphs you're looking for.
>>
>>983694
I don't touch DAZ with a 10 mile pole but seeing how the error is along the symmetry line it might be down to limitation in number of bones that is allowed to influence a vertex.

well I sometimes go in and add some colours or make something stand out a little more.
but really you got everything ive done. Pretty basic but I dont like to spend too much time on postpros
>>
>>983609
well ironically you need to add a lot more light sources as you cant rely on bounces to fill up the scene. So think like the angle you want and then where you want the darkness / shadows. Then add soft lighting to about 3/4 of the entire 360 angle. That way you only have one hard angle of complete darkness.
if you look at these Mass Effect renders they are really not that dark. Its more the tone.

Using my original .OBJ as a morph and dialing all hidden morphs to zero fixed the symmetry issue, but now the pants don't fit. A smoothing modifier at a high number just messes up everything, and playing with the scale also doesn't work.

So, maybe is not the bones after all.
>>
>>983694
>>983722
when you're using transfer utility, are you setting the source to "current"? this is assuming your loading the pants onto a model with custom morphs already in use.
>>
>>983724
Yes, and yes.
>>
>>983702
Honestly. I made this almost impossible to light scenario. It's a small Japanese 1K1R apartment, lights off at night, and there's a slight volume. So any Ghost light I throw in is lit up with the volume, AND, you can see the stacking shadows lining the walls no matter how big and soft I make the lights. It doesn't help that I'm working with a black character AND a white character. I've been taking stabs at it for months and came up with a janky solution. All that said, I think my end result is serviceable, but just having a better eye for lighting is the better talent.

what's the best way to make tattoos that go over "stitches" on texture maps? like on the back or circular one on arms/legs? the only thing i can think of is exporting to blender and projecting it through materials pannel and then exporting back somehow, but i can't figure out how and honestly don't feel like learning blender for this shit, but if anyone knows some shortcut to do it easly in either daz or blender, i'd appreciate some tips
>>
>>984323
i'm not a big daz user so i may be wrong but your best bet is a geoshell with its own UV for just the tattoo (since afaik daz doesn't let you specify per-texture UV sets)
i have no idea how to make a daz geoshell but you'd bring it into blender, load your tattoo (decal) onto a plane and bake it onto the geoshell using the bake tools in the render settings. look up a blender texture baking tutorial for that
if you don't want to use a geoshell you could bring the body into blender and bake from the plane directly to the skin but you'll need a really high res texture or it will look like dogshit
>>
>>984324
oh and if you're baking directly onto the body across the "stitches" (UDIMs) you'll need to set the UDIMs in the UV/image editor then bake onto them with the right settings. can probably find a tutorial for that easily now that you know the keyword UDIM

Would anyone happen to have guidance for making Daz to unreal engine models look less bad? I really wish I had a simple workflow for making models in unreal since art isn't my interest but... vroid always looks bad and you can spot it a mile away, makehuman bodies don't have many customization options and the faces are ugly, daz is nearly perfect but the the face always looks terrible because the way the light effects the face is different.
>>
>>984642
Try joining the Daz to Unreal Discord server and search through past posts to find different workflows people have developed there.
>>
>>984642
One avenue people take is to use the Metahuman skin shader for example.

>I guess just a little bit of postpros goes a long way
I do believe this firmly, some times they just pull specific render assets, like DOF, color keys, rendered masks, etc. I think that is super strong

Today I was thiking, you know the typical DOF pass? I was thinking how to turn that into the typical landscape "blueiness". Open any landscape that goes deep enough with mountains, sky, etc. You will notice the furtherest away something is the bluisher it is. You can do that with a DOF pass and some postpo magic. I don't even want to think how'd you'd do that without it.
>>
>>984778
well you could do it in render with planes or fog. But it would be render heavy and you wont even get a better effect. So yeah for some things it just makes more sense to do the effect in post
>>
>>984781
I remember reading some pixar and shit, I think they did this as well, like with hair, fur, and some other shader kind of deals, it would make for an interesting thread

daz newb here. How does one get started with posing? For example, a pose of unclasping a bra. Arch the spine slightly, move arms back and rotate so the hands are near the bra's band? Do i select individual parts to do this or use the drivers or morphs?

>>
>>984942
I typically start with a pose base with her hands behind her back and use the pose tool to drag her hands behind her bra. It honestly doesn't matter what her hands look like. Just shoot it in a way that doesn't show her hands.
>>
>>984921
Do you just do this for fun or you do it as a job?
>>
>>984942
Drag and drop the hand near onto where the bra is while having selected the translation tool. Rest can be done with individual rotations or whatever

What's a good step-up from Daz? I've been using it for about a year but I'm starting to get sick of the nature of it. Just downloading assets and swapping them. It feels more like The Sims at this point. Original poses are about the only OC I make and even those are based on others. I want to make my own assets, environments, etc. Don't really care about animation. Blender? Something else?

I've been using DAZ for a while, why should I make the jump to Blender? Any good reasons? Is it just more freedom?
>>
>>985438
the sculpting tools alone are worth the switch. if you pose something and it looks bad you can just sculpt it until it looks good. the mesh editing tools in daz are dogshit in comparison
i guess you can export from daz to blender, sculpt then reimport it but that's annoying

I feel you. Built a new system specifically for daz and my giant asset library. Gen5 T700 nvme barely made a difference in loading scenes compared to the gen4 SN850X build I had before it. My next plan is to start new libraries but not install every damn morph and character.

What's the equivalent of zonegfx and / or 3d load for audio production related assets; software, instruments, plugins etc. There has to be something better to rutracker.

Point me to a good one and I will get you something from cgpeers. The sharing thread is not in the catalog for some reason so I post here.

Do you think it's worth calibrating your monitor more rigorously if you're only making digital content (with no intention of printing)?
I was looking at some renders of mine on a smartphone and they look much "colder" when my intention was a warmer image. My monitor, I think, is well calibrated, but I can't be sure unless I buy one of these devices for calibration, I think...
What do you think? Is it worth spending $200 on a monitor calibration device or is it only for those who are printing high quality images?

>>985314
Blender, even if you want to do exactly what you do in DAZ. At least that's what the guys in the DAZ community told me.
>>
>>986523
i think a monitor with better colors is probably more important than a calibration device, i'd just look at your renders on your phone before you post them to make sure they look good on both
>>
