Finally finished the two episodes. Voices will take some getting used to, but the performances are good. Some comedic moments got cut, which is frustrating but they were all very minor. I like the OP, I don't like the ED. Good music. Love the little visuals extras the anime added to make up for some of the stuff they cut because it didn't work in animation. Love the parts of the animation that matched the visuals of the manga, including the extra fancy stuff.

The spells are, and she knew that while drawing the circle cause er can be expected to understand that fire = dangerous. It's ok if you don't find this shit dumb, but I do and it'd have been more believable had this been either the first dangerous spell she had drawn (everything else being flower field or smth) or if her mother had run into her while she was outside. But this felt like really retardedly set up drama to me.

But the basic format of a person being able to intuit basic rules about some kind of system of functions they don't understand, and then being blindsided when a complex instruction set does something absurdly bad with no build up, is reasonably similar. The issue is that Coco didn't really know that spells could even be made to be dangerous like that. A small fire is scary in your bedroom when you're trying to hide from your mother. But not scary in the sense of teaching you that some magical spells can instantly kill you with no warning. Coco learns to be wary of blindly experimenting without thought and then decides to use the textbook she got as a guideline to experiment intelligently. Then the next sigil she draws just converts the entire house to a crystalline hell with no preamble and no warning on the page that this will kill you and everything else in a 50 foot radius in seconds. A child would have zero reason to think something like that would ever be in a book she was handed as a child by a friendly mage.
