The reason why so many people, including me, prefer cel anime over modern anime is the same reason why people prefer old-school death metal over modern death metal: rawness. Analog imperfections, the organic feel of film, a darker color palette, etc. Modern is too polished and plastic.
Do you think Genocyber or Midori would look equally stern if they had the art style of Oshi no Ko?
