The manga version also ended early on.Not to be a dick, but OTP stuff is not a selling point and generally that's the only thing this is remembered for outside of Stella being hot. Not the power system, not the battles, but being an exception about the main couple. It didn't result in massive sales or anything. Back then BD/DVD were really important and even some of the other school battle harem whatever stuff that performed better didn't get an S2. So accept that they were just promo for the source and there was no intention for a full adaptation. For that 5 or 6 seasons were needed and that was out of the question.
