Ito is a great dark comedy mangaka who is considered a horror mangaka for reasons i will never understand. Feels like he genuinely has a ton of fun with his own stories.

Junji Ito is a boomer and still produces this style of work meant mostly to amuse and gross out the audience, with the gruesome scenes often mixed with lighter comedy of customs. There's no mismatch, he's a paragon of his chosen genre.
