He just feels so vanilla, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Others directors are more 'fun' and 'idiosyncratic'.
Miyazaki himself was more fun when he was doing stuff like Lupin, Conan, Nausicaa etc. His 21st century works are just not that great.
Still top 3 in my eyes.
