To be honest, I was expecting to see more of an actual race with more shenanigans. Good episode, though. Not as strong as the Tower. People were hyping this story up but it wasn't really that special. Too much focus on Niikura and Nagumo. I wanted more of the others.

i really enjoyed nichijou as a young adult back when it aired. so far city hasn't made me laugh at all, but i still find dumb shit like detectives these days are crazy to be funny. the show is still worth watching just for the amazing animation and coloring. visually it makes my brain feel good.
I don't really care if it's a good adaptation or not. I care if something is actually good. THE ANIMATION is good. It could be better if they adapted it better, or it could be better if they did a worse adaptation but did something else to make it better. I do think this race story could have been better, by showing more of the race. Maybe if it was two episodes, and we had more time to focus on each pair.

Most of his flashback explaining his motivation for entering the race was cut, including the funny moments of him running from debt collectors. They also skipped the explanation of Wako partnering up with granny to intentionally sabotage her as well as getting Quiz King and Fried Rice-kun to join the race since they want a rematch against granny after losing previously because she was a threat towards the chances of Matsuri and Ecchan winning (Nagumo was also a threat but that was neutralized by her partnering up with Niikura). She also found every invitation hidden around town and redistributed them to control which contestants joined the race. They also messed up the joke of the bring your own item rule leading to mass chaos at the end. Tekaridake claimed that one of the animals was his partner and the rest were items he brought to get reinstated into the race. This led to audience members jumping into the race to help the teams they bet on claiming they were items for that team.
