I'll be storytiming the manga, one complete case per day. Most cases are around 3-6 chapters long.
Feel free to drop in at any time, since it's mostly episodic.

The Summer Santa Claus is a oneshot by Gosho btw
The manga hasn't been translated but the OVA has. It's about a guy who got drunk after being dumped by his girlfriend, activated a super weapon by accident and forgot about it. The owner of the weapon had to cater to his every need so that he could remember the activation code.
>>
The movies suck once they went digital. The first 5 movies are peak Conan and I'd argue that even the sixth one is good. Heiji sucks, he should have been relegated to Sera-tier. Akai should have stay dead. Conan has too many allies now and it's so boring seeing him always winning against the BO. Rum is even less threatening then Vermouth. Ai Haibara died when she went into the witness protection program, and the current Haibara is a shell of her former self. Current cases suck, too reliant on japanese codes and "shock" mystical element. Zero is fucking gay.

Too bad Conan is more popular than One Piece, so there is no way they will let it end soon.
>>
>>281874563
Spoiler tag your rant, anon. It's a mystery series.

This gets addressed in the detective conan manga as well. They do have to up the dosage and iirc conan has to upgrade the watch as well since the watch was only holding one tranquilizer shot at a time.
>>
>>281874703
Even the worst pre-digital Conan movie had more soul than any of the recent one.

>>281874674
This might comes as a shock to you since you get your news from 4chan or twitter so when you see some retarded tweet like how Gear 5 will break the internet, you assumed that's how it is.

Don't get me wrong, One Piece is huge, and but Conan is a juggernaut in Japan. The TV ratings alone is at least double that of One Piece, the movies consistently earns money.

One Piece got the edge in worldwide popularity and manga volume sales, but even Doraemon and Maruko is more popular than OP.
>>
>>281877294
I think they're at the very least comparable in popularity, and putting one over the other like that is silly.
>>
Oh shit, I had no idea you guys were storytiming. This is crazy timing as I have been in the middle of a huge Conan binge the past few weeks. I'm at episode 232 now and just finished Movie 5 today (that was the best movie so far)
>>
>>281878154
IMO It's Last Wizard of the Century.
>>
>>281874703
I straight up did not like Movie 3 except the literal ending
>>
>>281878168
See >>281878243. I just did not really enjoy the mystery here.

For me Movie 5 had a lot of moving parts that came together well. The setpieces were cool, had a lot of Ai and BO tension, and in a weird way, I was amused at how the movie took the elementary schoolers' internal drama kind of seriously at parts.
>>
>>281878154
>>281878168
In my opinion the best early movies are 6, 3, and then 5. The rest are good but those 3 are my favorites of the single digits.

Is there some kind of detective manual that contains all of these details about different types of bruising and the hobbies they result from? Or has he just read of these things in detective stories?
>>
>>281880653
Kudo family has a private library with what looks like thousands of books, so he probably read up on a lot, if not directly, then from the notes his father took for his books, but he sure has a damn good memory. Sherlock Holmes did it by memorizing only things he considered really relevant to the investigations, and ignored some stuff a regular person would consider common knowledge, but Shinichi/Conan just knows everything.
>>
>>281870417
Why did choose the name "Richard", anyway? With "Jimmy", "Rachel", and "Serena", there's at least a tiny bit of a semblance to the original names (not that that excuses the localization). So why "Richard"? It's not like there aren't any Western male names starting with "K". "Konrad", for instance, even starts with the same syllable.
>>
>>281870468
???
Even if he did hear that message, Akutsu only said "that sculpture". How would one know what exact sculpture he meant?
>>
>>281870475
I would.

It's probably not how their train of thought went, but Richard can be shortened into Dick, which can make one think of private dick.

There are destroyed tiger sculptures around the dragon, and the sculpture in question would not necessarily be stored there.
Maybe you remember the fan translation, where Conan does mention dragon sculpture as part of the erased message, but given that in previous chapter the suspect whose message it would have been didn't mention any dragons, it would have been a big guess either way.
>>
>>281882108
Oh, you're right. I guess you could argue that since he's visited the place before, he would know those tiger sculptures belong there.
That said, I wanted to check the local official translations (Which I still own, and they'd be my primary recollection, not sure if I read the old translations for the early stuff) and it also doesn't mention anything of the sort, so I'll guess it's a different case I'm thinking of.

They are Japanese after all and his best friend is in martial arts, no wonder he would be curious on how to identify some common patterns of wounds.
Funny how it was Ran that identified that the hand position was wrong though.
>>
>>281881145
My first though was amount of syllables to match the anime movements, but that doesn't make much sense anyways. Easier to think they just came with it out of nowhere
>>
>>281882204
>>281882108
He purposely drew the sculpture in another color, so probably it was made of a better material or more precious. I can't be bothered to find the anime ep it appears.

If I recall correctly, Megure and Takagi already noticed the eerie coincidence of Conan and Kogoro being at so many crime scenes, but it's played as a joke.

TV rating is the prove that Conan is more popular retard, since more people watch TV than reading manga.

I read Magic Kaito.
Gentleman thief vs genius detective is a pretty sure formula, it reminds people of Arsene Lupin and Sherlock Holmes. Meanwhile, I think Chihaya is really only getting the movie so early cause people love her dead brother and his gang, they even got a spin off.

Funny, in the anime, the chase scene is a lot longer. The culprit then goes into a fit of madness, puts on his brothers moustache again and starts impersonating him while saying how much he loved him and wanted to be like him.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Conan in the anime version take off his shoes when he enters the bathroom and hides them underneath some bucket? >>281899343

I remember thinking that was so hilarious that the Japanese are so proper about taking off their shoes when entering a home that they do it even when breaking and entering.

Detective Conan is basically the Japanese version of the Simpsons
>>

So the anime writers thought the kids would be too dumb to understand why he couldn't megakick a cabbage and changed the circumstance?

No, he ran and put on the shoes. The scene in the kitchen is the same other than that.

Yes because Conan has more widespread appeal due to its generally episodic nature, which in turns get more view. That's why it's more popular than One Piece you retard.

So every anime that airs in a better spot than One Piece is also more popular than it? Retard.
Also, how do you explain the fact that OP sells more in almost every single other level?
>>

could be true, one piece watchers are dying of old age now
>>
>>281902325
>>281902484 (me)

Because it is, you absolute niggerfaggot.

>>
Isn't Conan concerned the repeated use of his stun-gun watch on Kogoro causes some long-term damage? You're not supposed to be anesthesized that often.
>>
>>281902524
Not really the same range. I don't know if it's because of the latest movies but Conan stuff was really everywhere in Japan, not just in stores. One Piece wasn't on that level. The Simpsons analogy seems pretty apt.
>>
>>281902709
>anecdotal evidence
Maybe it was full of OP stuff when its film came out, or of NGE stuff when the last rebuild came out.
>>
>>281902787
>its film
theres like 30 theatrically released films
>>
>>281902787
It is anecdotal but it's consistent with what I heard before. Collabs fucking everywhere. Kinda crazy stuff. What are the TV ratings of both anyway?
>>
>>281902821
Last I checked, DC gets around 5-6%, while OP around 2-3%.
No idea how they do on streaming.
>>
>>281902709
Simpsons hasn't been that ubiquitous since simpsonsmania in the 90s
>>
>>281902877
I guess Conan has that "family" additional reach?

>>281902923
Yeah I should have specified that or you could have deduced it like a true detective
>>
>>281902964

>>
>>281902877
Iinm, Conan consistently near the top in the rakuten streaming chart.
>>
>>281902709
>Not really the same range
True, if anything, OP is more popular by leaps and bounds.
After all, film Red made twice as much in box office than Bride of Halloween, and they both came out the same year.
>>
>>281904124
Conan has like twice as many movies, not too surprising to see they might not score as well especially when Red baits with Shanks on the cover. Twice the TV ratings seems to make the hierarchy pretty clear.
>>
>>281904225
For the anime.
We're talking about multi-media franchises here, so we also have to bring up the manga, vidya, live shows, toys, theme parks, etc.
Also comparing the amount of fanart on pixiv or boorus could help

Wait, your data is pretty inaccurate in the first place.
Conan kinda mogs there. OP barely got ahead with the last one and it's not 2:1 either. On average Conan is at 13B yen while OP sits at 10B, and that's with Conan shitting out one movie per year while OP seems more like a big event. Red was supposed to be canon and everything, wasn't it?
>>
>>281899066
>A FUCKING LEAF
>>
>>281904499

>>
>>281904499
>>281904553
Also
>your data is pretty inaccurate in the first place
Nothing of what I've said is incorrect.
>>
>>281904577
It's not inaccurate but misleading. One Piece got beaten 9 to 5B on 2019 and 6 to 5 on 2016, if we have to compare for the same year specifically. And like I said, Conan making movies every year makes things very different. Conan movies just bring in more cash in Japan. Western countries are probably another story.
>>
Love how people who never step foot inside Japan talks about which one is more popular when it's clear it's Conan.

Family-oriented show against a plot-focused show. Historically, the latter never did that well in Japan ratings, which is why they are usually not on evening prime slot like Conan or Doraemon.

One Piece has more dedicated fanbase, and it's reflected in the manga sales which is about twice that of Conan's manga sales. But everything else sans worldwide popularity, Conan mogs.

More people probably knew more about the fucking faggot Zero than any of the recent One Piece characters of the same time frame.
>>
>>281904800
You keep talking exclusively about the anime, which is very convenient since it's the only level it can beat it.
>>
>>281904866
that guy talked about manga in that very post and the movies already. idk what this means.
>>
>>281904866
OP can move more books but less people in front of TV screens (more people watch than read even in Japan right?).
I think it's accurate to say Conan is more woven into Japanese culture even if OP might win on some metrics.
>>
>>281904866
Because we are talking about popularity in Japan? Because more people watches tv than reading manga?
>>
>>281898728
child abuse
>>
>>281905020
Well, according to my quick (probably wrong) calculations, a 5-6% rating equals to 3-3.6 million watchers, while One Piece has sold about 5 million copies per volume, if you average it. Even if you take out 1-1.5 million copies per volume to account for global sales, that's still more than comparable.
>>

I admit I've never been to Japan, but I've always heard about the ungodly amounts of one piece merch, like in https://ithinkincomics.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/one-piece-isnt-an-anime-its-a-way-of-life/
>>
>>281905268
Not everyone tunes in for each episode so if you're counting the total pool of watchers I'm sure Conan would have a bigger edge than the 1.5-2m added here

I think the more important part here that could set Conan apart in Japan would be
>>281905016
They make one movie per year after all. It's not a special thing anymore and collabs get made for those. Basically it seeps in lots of places.
>>
>>281905268
If you take into account of nationwide, and not just the Kanto area, it's about 1 million viewers for about 1%. But yeah sure lets compare weekly anime shows with manga volume that is released every few months.
