Alright, it is Saturday and I am gonna post the thirty-second volume of Rin-ne. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Rin-ne after the dump.Rin-ne is Rumiko Takahashi's return to comedy after Inuyasha. Rin-ne is VIZ's localized title, presumably chosen to assist in pronunciation. The original title is 境界のRINNE (Kyokai/Kyoukai no Rinne) which means Rinne of the Boundary. While it is not a megahit like some of her other huge series, I highly recommend it to fans of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura though it is obviously different.Previous thread: >>281800278I will be using scans of the official VIZ localization. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits. In addition, I will be dumping a short autobiographical manga by Rumiko Takahashi that was previously not available in English as far as I can tell. Today, the scans I have of the one shot ones I scanned myself that were then generously translated and typeset by a reader. I greatly appreciate this and I am glad something productive came about from my threads. The manga in question is Part 1 of The Diary of Kemo Kobiru series.
December 9th, 2015. Author's note:"Q: Do you have any routine as a mangaka?A: I eat fish before I work on my name."Furinkan's note: "A name is a preparatory sketch for a manga chapter page."
>>281871599Disposable window wiper is translated directly from 使い捨て窓拭きワイパー (tsukaisute madofuki waipā), where ワイパー is obviously a loanword from the English "wiper". The term spirit blemishes is translated from 霊的汚れ (reiteki yogore), which means either spiritual dirt or spiritual stains, depending on context.
>>281871657Whoo!
>>281871669Can't trust anybody.
>>281871685I wonder how often these get wiped up.
>>281871711Quite a bit.
>>281871719The gag (age 39) continues.
>>281871735
>>281871748Onigiri, yeah.
>>281871759What a lovely evening.
>>281871810Hm?
>>281871816I assume this means that someone has been cleaning up random windows other than Rinne, since you'd think over the years, these would get completely covered otherwise.
>>281871833
>>281871847Ugh.
>>281871969Well, at least this was written clearly.
>>281871979
>>281871989Good job, Rinne.
>>281872000End of chapter. That's how they get you. What an awful product.
>>281871599it's the dolphin again :-)but it's in the bed of a mysterious girl hmm
クリスマス浄霊会 (kurisumasu jōrei-kai) was the original title. クリスマス is obviously just Christmas. 浄霊 refers to exorcisms. 会 means meeting or event or party (Furinkan translated this chapter as Christmas Exorcism Party), but I guess VIZ decided exorcism is clearly an event already so it didn't need an additional word.December 16th, 2015. Author's note:"Q: There is a 3D printer in front of you. What do you make?A: Jusaburo's doll from NHK's Shin Hakkenden."
>>281872061The writing with English letters was the same in the original panels. We've had this come up before but Sangai is another way of romanizing 三界 (the setting for the series). VIZ has gone with Sankai before. >>281872044Hehe.
>>281872096Heh, Rinne and Rokumon. Also, quite a number of people invited.
>>281872111That'll do it.
>>281872122I've always seen the term mixer in manga and I assumed it was a loanword since it comes up a lot, but apparently mixer is an American thing and VIZ just uses it a lot to describe 合コン (gōkon), a sort of group blind date. Admittedly, apparently 合コン comes from コンパ (konpa) which is a type of university student drinking gathering which presumably was a loanword from German or French (komanie or compagnie, ie. company in English). Renge's insult here was 貧乏人 (poor person).
>>281872289
>>281872300What a dreamer.
>>281872317Been a bit since we've seen a henohenomoheji.
>>281872415Honestly, that was very earnest of him.
>>281872434T to S in the original as well. With the Furigana テイートウエス in the bubble.
>>281871557I still can't let go that unexpected lowkey Samurai Pizza cats refference... Who do I call if I want some pepperoni?
>>281872464Big win for the Rokudo household.
>>281872480Keeping some integrity. And the girls know they're cute.
>>281872513She does look like that, yeah.
>>281872533Congrats, Sakura Mamiya.
>>281872466do it the way rinne wouldbuy from whoever has a sale going on right now
>>281872573A lot better than the husk, admittedly. I wonder what the market value is for something like that.
>>281872587Kizuna (絆) apparently means bond or connection, assuming that's what he was going for.
>>281872615My first thought was the mandarins too, honestly.
>>281872629End of chapter. Sorry, Rinne. At least Rokumon might share the cookies.
Original title is 黒い破魔矢. VIZ didn't translate it much. Furinkan actually went with "Black Ceremonial Arrow". I prefer the translation note. Anyway, feel free to look up more, but it literally means evil-destroying arrow and is handed out during New Year's at temples and shrines.Furinkan notes that: "A double issue meaning Shonen Sunday was not published the following week due to the holidays."December 23rd, 2015. Author's note:"Q: Please let us know if there are any popular words or phrases around you at work this year.A: It's Pistachio's "What?"."Furinkan's note: "Pistachio is a comedy duo."
>>281872685It is tough.
>>281872696!
>>281872704In case you forgot her name.
>>281872727I can only assume Tsubasa lead them here.
>>281871669she has horns and little angel wings...>>281871735>The gag (age 39) continues.we're back agebros!>>281871810>>281871833drunk ghosts? did they get drunk or did they die drunk? did they die at the same time?and is there ghost vomit collected on the ground?have we been unknowingly stepping on ghost puke all along?!
>>281872747Recap for those who don't know her schtick. 幽体離脱 was the term for out-of-body experience here as far as I can tell. When combine written like 幽体離 脱する as it is here (performing an out-of-body experience), it can also be translated as astral projection. At least that's what I can tell with some googling, I don't know Japanese.
>>281872807Does have that dream-like quality to it.
>>281872820浮遊霊 was the term used here. Translates to floating spirit literally, but has previously been localized as "wandering spirit" at times. >>281872793I assume they got drunk rather than died drunk, but I guess both are an option.
>>281872853Reminder, Masato is referred to as a 悪魔 (akuma) in Japanese. Also has been localized as devil.
>>281872866The prayer plague (絵馬, ema) had to be redrawn here, obviously. Though the heart was in both. The "under negative circumstances" was 事件大歓迎 (incidents welcome!) in Japanese, which made me laugh.
>>281871969>there's even more now!oh nyooo!>>281872016quick rinne, stuff those back into the wiper!>>281872061>Q: There is a 3D printer in front of you. What do you make?>A: Jusaburo's doll from NHK's Shin Hakkenden.when i googled shin hakkenden i got an animebut when i added jusaburo doll i got something decidedly not-anime
>>281872907The usual. They're such cute weirdos, honestly. Even if she does deserve better.
>>281872923I thought maybe he miswrote something like usual, but it doesn't seem like it. Just just wrote りんねくんに炎.
>>281873004Ah, good, VIZ has us covered.
>>281873021I am so sorry, Sakaki.
>>281873028Classic.
>>281873042She went for it.
>>281873053Not his day.
>>281873063End of chapter. I normally would feel Rinne's overstepping a bit, but honestly, he earned some compensation this time for sure. Sorry, Sakaki, you need to keep your spirit in check.
Furinkan notes that: "Another double issue, Shonen Sunday did not publish an issue the next week." January 6th, 2016. Author's note:"Q: 2016 has started! What's your resolution for the new year?A: That I'll be healthy."
>>281873121>January 6th, 2016.happy 2016 everybody!
>>281873121首藤マモル was his name in Japanese, but 首藤 had the Furigana ずどう. If there's a pun, I can not identify it.
>>281873208
>>281873220Sakura Mamiya referred to this as 獅子舞 (shishimai) with the Furigana ししまい. So, she literally just said "lion dance" as this is the outfit used in Japan for this.
>>281873303Careful!
>>281873336I appreciate it when Rumiko explains this stuff. I assume she wasn't thinking about international audiences, but honestly, she isn't exactly clueless about her fans overseas.
>>281871557My other favourite character in the series is here!
>>281873368生剥げ in Japanese. This one is apparently specific to the Oga Peninsula area of Akita Prefecture per Wikipedia.
>>281873429
>>281873447Not an animated outfit or anything.
>>281873463
>>281872061How many Christmases does that make so far?
>>281872096haven't the original panels also written it as sankai, such as on signs and local sports uniforms?>>281872111another christmas party, but planned this time!>>281872122just flash a little meat in front of rinne and he'll forgive everything>>281872415>a cicada husk>from rokumonhe really is just a little cat huh
>>281872415Rokumon's a good boy
>>281873486i lost count... but it's been more than 4
>>281873471Hm...>>281873486I assumed it was one every year, but Rumiko actually didn't seem to do one each time. This is the 4th one, from my count. I only counted chapters that explicitly referenced Christmas time. There was one that was about a scarf, but it wasn't Christmas related as far as I remember.
>>281873630It's honestly a little scary.>>281873528I think you're right.
>>281873650
>>281873663...
>>281873698Everyone's scared.
>>281873713お雑煮 in Japanese. It is apparently a savory thing with vegetables in addition to the mochi. Also, people do die every year from this stuff it seems.
>>281873805Ah.
>>281873829End of chapter. Little intense, old man.
Original title was 乙女の記憶. This actually seems to mean Otome's Memory or Memory of Otome, potentially. Otome being a proper noun. Not sure why VIZ changed it up.February 3rd, 2016. Author's note:"Q: Please share some memories of club activities you were involved in as a student.A: I had a lot of fun in my high School and university manga clubs."
>>281873894Little penguin mascot for the moving company.
>>281873909Fancy. Otome (乙女) means "young girl" or "maiden" and it is written the same way here.
>>281873953Furinkan notes that: ""But over a decade ago, she retired at the height of her popularity, and she hasn't shown herself in public at all ever since then." "Like an idol." - The pawnbroker and Rokumon's comments reference popular idols who typically retire at a young age when they marry and go on to live normal lives outside of the entertainment business."
>>281873975
>>281873989The license was redrawn here a little bit as the original had the name romanized as Otome Rokudou and had the name written in Japanese as well.
>>281874022!
>>281874034Timely.
>>281874052Here we have a very quick redraw of the panel on page 46 of Volume 4 (from chapter 31) as Sabato dramatically proclaims her death while stealing from Rinne's piggy bank (where Rinne was saving money to visit her). I don't remember what chapter, but later, Rinne discovered his mom walked out on Sabato. It was a while ago though.
>>281874157The insult Tamako uses here is グータラ(gūtara) which means slacker, loafer, lazybones, good-for-nothing, etc.
>>281874211He did intend to get it back. Eventually...
>>281874224Almost got away with it.
>>281874237She sees dead people.
>>281874255Gah! I always hate the big ghost heads.
>>281874265Oh, I apparently lied to you guys. Rinne says 浄化 in Japanese when it is localized as purify, not 浄霊.
>>281874311I am not sure why VIZ went with this. Rinne said she was a 生霊 as in "living spirit", ie. the spirit of a living person. VIZ usually goes with "disembodied spirit" since it conveys the idea better. Furinkan often notes that it can be translated as vengeful spirit, as in a spirit spawned from one's hate, but I feel here it makes it sound like she's dead. Which I think she isn't.
>>281874389No such thing as a free lunch.
>>281874411End of chapter. Having Sabato refer to his own kid as a "son of a gun" is a bit of inspired localization. Original term was 不用心なやつ (buyōjin'na yatsu) which just means careless person. And I guess this explains why he didn't buy it back earlier.
Oh, I messed up. The title for this chapter: >>281873894 actually was Otome's Scythe (乙女のカマ). I posted the wrong title. Sorry. I also messed up the date and Author's note. It was January 20th, 2016 and the author's note was:"Q: Was there something you didn't understand until you were an adult?A: What I didn't know is that in Niigata, the word for being hit by a teacher is called "kakeru", which is a dialect word."
Originally, this cover was in full color. January 27th, 2016. Author's note:"Q: The cold days continue. Tell us what you do to feel a little warm!A: I felt warm seeing my family after a long time to celebrate my mom's Beiju." Furinkan's note: "Beiju is a the name for the 88th birthday celebration. Obviously referring to her mother."
>>281874602I assume the envelope's say Happy New Year or something similar. Maybe birthday cards? I don't know. Ichigo is written as 苺 in Japanese and is a common unisex name in Japanese, apparently. This page also makes me laugh.
>>281874662Oh, yeah, the term localized as holiday money is お年玉 (otoshidama) which refers to New Year's gift money.
>>281874697!
>>281874709I believe we saw one of these before, but I don't remember when. あの世盗撮グッズ (anoyo tōsatsu guzzu) in Japanese.
>>281874799
>>281874662"Otoshidama", which is the usual term for New Year's money.
>>281874697Should have read the next page before posting >>281874809, I guess
>>281874808Yeah, the normal word for force field and barrier was used here, but what I found interesting was the term localized as interference vibration was just ノイズ (noizu) in Japanese. As in, it was a loanword from English. Admittedly, in Japanese, this seems to specifically refer to static or white noise so I guess VIZ decided that saying it "generated noise" would be misleading. >>281874809Right, right. Sorry. Google Lens wasn't cooperating and VIZ only explained it on the next page.
>>281874884!
>>281874901The mystery deepens.>>281874834I mean, I did the same thing. Appreciate it regardless.
>>281874918
>>281874932It is kind of funny how succinct the expression "someone else's dirty laundry" is in English. In Japanese, he said 人様の家の黒歴史 (人様の家の黒歴史) which means "the dark history of someone else's house".
>>281872434renge wanting ageha's gift is unexpected, but she probably thinks she can pawn whatever it is>canned mandarinsoh rinne...>>281872480>holding a wad of money!renge was right to want that giftand ageha truly has learned hasn't she? >>281872513asking rinne to give up the stack of 10,000 yen bills... just put him out of his misery...>>281872573>please let it be rinne's!that's kind of sweet that she's willing to accept the canned mandarins lol>>281872615where in the world did renge get a scarf>that cdamazing
>>281875016
>>281872727How could I forget best girl of this manga?
>>281875029霊寄 せスプレー (rei yadoriki se supurē), ie. spirit attracting spray. This stuff has been used before.
>>281872640>the cd's memorial servicewh- what?>tama knit it from her own coughed-up hair balls>coughed-up hair ballsresourceful and revolting!wait does this mean rokumon, oboro, suzu, kurosu, and the kuroboshi's, cough up hair balls too?!
>>281875104Sakura learning this also serves as a bit of a recap.
>>281875119What... are they for?>>281875112I mean, cats don't always get hairballs. I don't actually know what results in it. Maybe she's just gotten worse at grooming in her old age. And regarding the memorial service, I don't know.
>>281875153手間賃だ (temachinda) for Rinne's line here and 手間賃なのだ (temachin'nanoda) for the narrator's, in case you're curious. Gags like this always make me laugh. 手間賃 appears to be closer to "labor fee" than commission fee, but I feel commission is more accurate in this context.
>>281875218Incredible!
>>281875234A whole page for her.

Damn I forgot today was Saturday >>281871719>>281871759cute
>>281875247End of chapter. Her line here was 儲かったわ which appears to just mean "I made money", so I think VIZ did good here since that sounds way too direct in English.
Now, the title is 乙女の記憶 and means Otome's Memories. Sorry about that.February 3rd, 2016. Author's note:"Q: Please share some memories of club activities you were involved in as a student.A: I had a lot of fun in my high School and university manga clubs."
>>281875337
>>281875349Sabato's "naughty girl" was こいつめえっ (koitsu-me e~tsu) which seems to be commonly translate as "you dummy", "this guy!" or "darn you" or similar. The insult towards Sabato was ゴクツブシ (gokutsubushi) three times over which means literally parasite, but also idler, good-for-nothing or deadbeat.
>>281872923>>281873021>>281873042>>281873053>>281873105there's no way masato's dyslexic-ass wrote so much and only made one mistake!!h- has he learned reading/writing strategies?!

>>281875489Hehehe.
>>281875501
>>281875562Note from Furinkan: "The cannon that Sabato uses ... is actually used for firing off fireworks at summer festivals. These hand-held cannons are called 手筒花火 (tezutsu hanabi). They are made from a long piece of hollowed out bamboo that is then reinforced with tightly wrapped rope and stuffed with black powder."
>>281875588
>>281872289Oh wow I didnt know that. >>281872434>>281875024Yeah a bit surprising. Jumonji is pretty rich himself and his gift is guaranteed to be good since it was for Sakura. Eh that might be a good reason not to want it actually

>>281875798
>>281875810Hm...
>>281872640Wait come to think of it why does Renge have a black cat? Does Sabato have one?
>>281875817End of chapter?!
Original title is 失踪のいきさつ. "The History of the Disappearance" or "The Circumstances of the Disappearance". This is a super cute cover. Furinkan notes that: "As a baby, Rinne had a baby chick on his bib like the one Kyoko Otonashi from Maison Ikkoku wears." Though honestly, it doesn't really look the same at all. I think Furinkan's stretching it a bit.February 10th, 2016. Author's note:"Q: What's your favorite winter activity?A: Eating a pot of sake-kasu nabe and miso soup."
>>281875911Right back to it.
>>281875921!
>>281875948The term used for the channeling doll is "依代人形" or "yorishiro ningyou". I have a note from Furinkan, but I can also just post the definition of yorishiro from JapanDict: "object representative of a divine spirit, object to which a spirit is drawn or summoned, object or animal occupied by a kami". Ningyou just means doll. Anyway, here's Furinkan's note:"Yorishiro (依代) references an object that a spirit is drawn to dwell in."It is a Shinto term. You guys probably remember all this, but just in case.
>>281875980Ouch.
>>281875994I guess a photo is more likely to be accurate compared to just memories. ゴクツブシ was the insult here again.
>>281875911Cute baby Rinne
>>281876034
>>281876047Sigh...
>>281876058Hm...
>>281876068ゴクツブシ. Three times. Again.
>>281876076...
>>281876093I do remember being surprised by this. I know for a bit I thought she was just client of the week, but then I think I assumed a connection, but fell for the misdirect. The cover of the volume of course does hint at it pretty directly.
>>281873368I think its for the younger readers. There's quite a bit of stuff that she doesn't explain, so I use that as a barometer for what is more or what is less ubiquitous common knowledge in japan
>>281876115Baby!
>>281876129... phone directories? Or...?
>>281876148ヌー in Japanese. Furinkan notes that: "A gnu is another name for a wildebeest, a cattle-like animal that lives in southern Africa." So, uh, yeah.
>>281876168The word game Sakura Mamiya was referring to was シリトリ (shiritori). It is a specific word game in Japanese where each person takes turns saying words that start with the last character of the previous word. If a player says a word that ends inん, they lose as there are basically no words in Japanese that start with it. Anyway, VIZ couldn't do anything with this, so they didn't really bother. Here are her incarnations in Japanese:メダカ (medaka, Japanese killifish) -> カナリア (kanaria, canary) -> アリクイ (arikui, anteater) -> 苺 (with the Furigana いちご which is in Hiragana, but the name is spelled イチゴ in Katakana. Also, she called him パパ in Japanese, it was not a UY reference. "Papa", essentially. I assume this is referring to his role in the family, as Japanese and other languages seem to do that sometimes.
>>281876323Similarly, honey here was localized from ママ (mama).
>>281876341End of chapter. I love the little caption here. Also, man, the animals she was did not have a long life. Canaries and anteaters can live significantly longer.
February 17th, 2016. Author's note:"Q: Please let me know the “one thing” that you can’t do by yourself.A: I can’t go to Disneyland alone."I guess I probably wouldn't do that either, but I wonder why this was on her mind. Maybe she wanted to go.
>>281876392The term used here was 死神青年会 (not 死神青年部 it seems, I am not sure why) or Shinigami Youth Club. Presumably this refers to the same thing that was previously translated as Shinigami Boys & Girls Club so I wish they'd keep consistent.
>>281876435I guess this could be a different club, since it is younger children. Maybe VIZ was right? Not sure. And yeah, here's Furinkan's note about the face cover: "The mask Sabato wears is a stereotypical mask worn by Japanese burglars. The bandana/mask is called a "hokkamuri" (頬っ被り)." Sakura Mamiya specifically referred to this item in the original panel.
>>281876480グータラ was the term she used here. Also, Sabato said "OK" (written that way) in English in the third panel here. Speaking of, I forgot to note that in this first panel: >>281874224 the little "Why?" was not redrawn. That's how it was in the original panel. Sabato spoke English there too.
>>281876517VIZ had to make some stuff fit in those tiny caption boxes, so hence the initialization of father-in-law and mother-in-law, which are much more compact in Japanese (義父 and 義母, respectively).
>>281876549I wonder if the troll be focus on Rinnes grandfather one day
>>281876549Apparently, the full term for yearbook in Japanese is 卒業アルバム (sotsugyō arubamu) which basically means graduation album (as you can tell, アルバム is a loanword). But apparently, they sometimes shorten it as 卒アル (sotsuaru), which is what Ichigo did here.
>>281876604Not a bad photo.
>>281876610...?
>>281875824>why does Renge have a black cat?because she has a scythe of course :-)i get the vibe that tama has been with renge's family for many many many generations>Does Sabato have one?there was that one time that he was in a chair and had a cat in his lap looking like a james bond villain, but i don't remember if it was black cat...
i went to furinkan to see in which chapter tama debuted, and i have to hand it to those guys... they picked quite the picture for her lmao
>>281876648Bit of pragmatic localization here, which I approve of. Ichigo's line in the fourth panel doesn't seem to even have an action, but she does end both sentences with アレって (are tte or That's all/That's it/Nothing more) and this is what Sakura Mamiya repeats. Rokumon's line is the same: 偽造と改ざん (gizō to kaizan) which does in fact mean forgery and falsification.
>>281876733Congrats, Rinne. >>281876725Yeah. She didn't even get a page. Just in the minor characters alongside Eggplant Grower and Ghost from 1993. >>281876699>>281875824I'll be honest, I assumed it was because she was originally going to just be a normal Shinigami, but that doesn't explain what happened with Sabato's. Maybe he was going to inherit Kuroboshi, but it fell through when Sabato became what he is.

>>281876883Rumiko said the following about Otome Rokudo on Twitter on April 24th, 2023:"She was very late to the series, but I was thinking endlessly about who she was for a long time. When Megumi Hayashibara was chosen to voice her I was really happy.I enjoyed thinking about how she got to know Sabato and why she had disappeared from Rinne's life and their memories of her. (Spoiler warning)"
>>281876933End of chapter. End with a gag, as we usually do. Rinne said しまった (shimatta), which does seem a little less vulgar than other options.
>>281876795>>281876604Ichigo's background is like the spirit sparkle bubbles thing in a couple panels here. Maybe its a normal background and I never noticed before though
March 2nd, 2016. Author's note:'Q: Please let me know if there is anything you're proud of in your hometown.A: The rice and fish are delicious. Also a lot of mangaka came from there."

>>281877240Sakura Mamiya said 好き (suki) which means like as in to like someone, but often is translated as love because of how it is used. Seems he was trying to draw 好.

>>281877002>March 2nd, 2016. we've got the raws for the big comic original one-shot published around this time, but scheduling conflicts have delayed itfortunately rumiko published another one-shot that year, in big comic spirits, and that one has an available fan translation
>>281877430I like the way Rumiko drew her hair.>>281877439Oh, I Hope You Die was first, right. I'll be doing She's Coming Tonight next Saturday, it seems. The fan translation seems a bit worse than what we usually get (but that might be just the typesetting?), but it'll have to do.

>>281877599Got pretty into it. >>281877584Yeah, good point. Stay safe out there.
Rumiko might be fairly eccentric but I don't think it's a stretch to call her a genius mangaka of note.
>>281877628End of chapter, end of volume. Lot of unrequited love out there. Dying doesn't stop that. Feel free to use the thread to discuss anything Rin-ne related. I have some stuff I'll posting here and there to bump the thread.I will be returning next Wednesday to dump Volume 33 of Rin-ne. But right now, I'll be dumping the newly translated Part 1 of "The Diary of Kemo Kobiru".
>>281877531it's from the last english fan translator of rin-ne, who was mostly working from the volume versions fortunately they got a hold of the color pages for this one-shotlooking at their blog archive, this one-shot is from their first year working on rin-nethey're also the source for the thousand years of innocence tl that's online, but mysteriously they only have grayscale for those color pages
>>281877700Also, checked
けも・こびるの日記 (Kemo Kobiru no Nikki) or "The Diary of Kemo Kobiru" was created for the Shonen Sunday Graphics books promoting Urusei Yatsura with Part 1 releasing on April 29th, 1982. As such, it was published decades before these chapters. Furinkan states that Kemo Kobiru was Takahashi's pseudonym as a doujin writer as a college student. This translation is a fanscan which was translated and typeset by one of our readers! I actually own a batch of the Shonen Sunday Graphics books for UY and scanned it as best I could without taking off the binding. Now this story is available in English for the first time! I am so pumped about this. This is a brief little thing but it is fun to see both some nonsense and some insight into the work that resulted in the two amazing manga hits of the 80s.
>>281877842Oh, I forgot to put my trivia for the first page since we don't have a cover. I guess I don't have much to say about this one, so I can just talk about the first page. Here we have a bunch of early UY boys depicted, we have (from right to left) Shutaro Mendo, Ataru Moroboshi, Ten, Ushiwakamaru, Rei and Tobimaro Mizunokoji. Furinkan notes that: "In the first chapter of the series, Rumiko Takahashi is shown in her apartment/studio and there is a poster on her wall. If you look closely the poster can be identified as this early Studio Pierrot production poster for the Urusei Yatsura anime." and they apparently had a link to a photo of it, but the link is now dead. I did manage to find what I believe is an image of it which I'll post after the dump, but the quality isn't the greatest.
>>281877952Unsurprisingly, Rumiko dreams of work. Also, you can see her Dakko-chan doll here. Oh, also, if you're interested in reading Furinkan's scans and translations of the other parts, they're available here: https://www.furinkan.com/rumictheater/translation/kemo2.html
>>281877980Per Furinkan: "The two assistants that are recurring characters alongside Takahashi are Makiko Nakano (中野真紀子) and Kuniko Saito (斎藤邦子)."
>>281877987End! The alias does not appear to be much of an alias as Rumiko Takahashi's editor was in fact one 大島誠 (Makoto Oshima). Furinkan lists him as being her second editor in one place and her fifth editor in another, so your guess is as good as mine. He also showed up in 怪猫・明 (That Darn Cat) which I've posted previously. Anyway, that was fun, right? It was nice to read this and finally understand it. Thanks again for translating and typesetting this, I really love being able to read more of her work.As mentioned before, I'll be back next Wednesday for Volume 33 of Rin-ne. Thanks again for reading.
>>281877980Reminds me of the joke in Maison ikkoku where Godai is sleeptalking in his college class about shouting at the tenants to get out of his room so he can study for the entrance exam. Maybe this is where it cams from>>281878043Thanks a lot
