After re-watching Otorimonogatari I just realized it's supposed to be an allegory about China fabricating its history (ex. Nanjing Massacre) to paint itself as the victim to justify its aggression, even if it did face legitimate malice at the start. Bravo Nisio Isin, the layers to his writing are immaculate.
