Why doesn't NuGundam have the same cultural impact or lasting appeal that early Gundam had? For example, nobody talks about GQuuuuuuX even though it only just finished airing 2 months ago. I've seen more Gundam Wing threads in the past 2 months than GQuuuuuuX threads.
>>281881634Because Wing has actual looking characters and not nuPokemon moeblobs
>>281881634it sold very well doe
Internet and multiple forms of media competing for people’s attentions.
>>281881634None of the anime had it in the last 5 years
>WingNobody cares other than toonamifags that can't let go of their youth. I don't know who you're kidding.
>>281881717I watched Wing at 37 for the first time and it was great.
>>281881634Really funny that some people fell for this joke thread calling Wing early Gundam.
>>281881634Nothing has extensive cultural impact nowadays. It's a consequence of the proliferation of the internet and the short-term attention span of social media
>>281881634No Tomino autism. This is a Gundam made from looking at other Gundam and not by looking at reality. Tomino cannot write, cannot direct and cannot animate, but he has something almost no other director has: the capacity to look at human beings for what they are. The result is that all his characters act completely unnatural all the time but the spectrum of what they do and experience is larger than in any other anime.Amuro's mother blaming him for being a soldier, his father going crazy - and both narrative threads not getting solved, leaving him with a broken family - Char slowly unfolding as the most depressed man in the world, Kamille's beautiful evolution from an autistic child into a caring adult capable of empathy. Sayla, Mirai, Reccoa, Fa and Four in Zeta: even writing from the most mysoginistic pov possible this guy made better and more believable characters than almost any anime, with a human spectrum going from caring friend, to mother, to toxic needy girlfriend, sister and just batshit insane schizo women like Katejina Loos. That human quality is still preserved in late stuff like Turn A and G-Reco. This is what drew people into Gundam and the main reason to rewatch 40 year old movies with rather bad animation is because of these human aspects. In this, he's still unparalleled. Anno and Miyazaki never got close.
>>281881778Wing is closer to 79 than it is to today
>>281881839On top of this, he had actual deep ideas. Again, everything is executed badly and it takes some rewatches to get there. But the newtype space magic, getting "weigh down by gravity" and the echological messages have been aging like wine. As the world becomes more of a hellscape, Gundam still asks real questions. He says something very deep and very simple, that only a man with true autism, who never properly connected with others can say - and that is that the key to save this world, preserving the environment and move towards new frontiers as human beings (be it in space or in our minds) is the development of a radical form of empathy for other creatures.I cry while writing this. It all begins there. This is likely the only anime that changed my outlook on life and made me a better instead of a worse person.
>>281881634>why doesn't NuGundam have thr same cultural impactidk, I'd say its pretty popular and definining. certainly impacted audiences in 1988 and continues to for years.
>>281881634>Why is a masterpiece by the man chosen by Tezuka himself more impactful than some shit made by retarded hacksDunno. Wait.... are you saying WING is early Gundam, not the original? Holy fuck I'm getting old
>>281881921>mfw I had to take a bus from Hakata station to Lalaport because there's no direct train going onAt least the Gundam and Base were pretty cool though.
>>281881634wasnt GQuuuuuuX a massive hit in japan?
>>281881839>>281881905this reads like a trollpost
>>281883268Kind of. Japan got baited by the theatrical release of a few episodes but hated it by the final ep.
>why doesn't the Nth sequal to a long lasting franchise have as big of an impact as the original?
>>281883322False
I am watching 0079 and this goofy little snake in episode 30 freaked me out.
>>281881634Lmao the Machu Gundam is the only Gundam I've ever watched and even I knew it kind of sucked.
>>281883339This. These franchises can't go on forever. Gundam is like 50 years old and all the original creators are old dying farts.
Watching Zeta. How many times is poor Kamille going to be slapped?
>>281881760I'm sorry for your disability
>>281884466This shit would've flopped harder than any other anime original ever if it didn't have the Gundam branding
