80 wasnt bad at all, 90 had some good but then it went fucking retarded (prime example, Saber marionette and its sequels) and the end of the 90's things calmed down but we got the insane eye to eye distance that makes some design look retarded. 10's are kinda MEH and 20's had improved somehow.

Unfortunately this seems to be a more or less western opinion. Maybe the influence from comics were still bigger in the 80s thus the more detailled faces, but anime restricted drawn lips to cougars and sluts since almost 20 years. On the topic: I almost miss everything about the 80s OVA style. Details, shading, technical fidelity when drawing machines. I even miss the less saturated tone of real color. My dream, that better technology would make it possible to have this kind of quality for the entire show and not just the op and 2-3 notable scenes in ANIMATION, remains unfulfilled to this day. Animation in the more narrower sense got way better, but at the cost of many details and quality (fuck 3d cgi).
