Why was animation in the 90s-2000s much more tactile and tangible?Everything made after 2010 looks so flat and soulless in comparison
yeah I love squinting at blurry images
>>281917818i just like the 90s look
>>281917818The trick is thicker lines and more saturated colors.
It wasn't.
>>281917818better?
>>281917818Why did they change the color of the stripe from lavender to pink?
I tried mcdonald in japan. It's really meh
>>281917818>tactile and tangiblewake up, new buzzwords just dropped
>>281917818No it wasn't
>>281917818>tactile and tangibleYour use of them is ironically insubstantial. Define these words in this context or fuck off.
>>281919384>lots of words for an idiot who doesn't get it and wants to be spoonfedgo watch a youtube video analysis on it zoomie lmao
>>281917818>Everything made after 2010 looks [headcanon]What you do is called cherrypicking. Pic related is from 2018.
>>281920033>has to reference an ongoing IP from the 90sAnon..
>>281917818Rebuild really took all the red out of Asuka's hair, I hate it. It's nice that new official art and commercials are bringing the red back.
>>281917818>>281921036This, OP is right generally but chose a bad image to illustrate the point. 2024 looks better than 2009 if only for restoring the pigment to her hair.
>>281920033>complains about cherrypicking >cherrypicks one of the few pieces of modern Dragon Ball that doesn't look like complete garbage Anyway, picrel is from 1995 and looks better, so what's your point?
>>281917818Now use AI to make 2024 have the thick lines and saturation of 1995.
>>281917818I'm loving it™
>>281917818The color palettes looked more natural, and there were no crappy filters to make everything look even more artificial, but beyond that, the art was overall just better. Both the body and facial anatomy were way better done, the shading was also better and the clothes were drawn looser, which gave them a sense of movement. The characters just looked much more three-dimensional, which gave them that feeling of closeness and tangibility.
Main difference is that cels used real actual light from a lamp instead of digitally reproduced bloom that makes everything look saturated
>>281917818Well at least here 90's Rei has an actual expression of sadness and physical discomfort perhaps due to her meds and just the inefficiencies from being cloned. She also is more obviously removed from Asuka because her shoulders are not visible and she has a different amount of lighting and focus on herBasically, the 90s had actual talent and after that it was only shareholders
>>281922631>>281918365>>281917818:)
>>281922951tbf that's the touched up version of that shot, not the broadcast one
Nowadays every character is dry and white, but before, they were brown and soulful
>>281923980sovl overwhelming
>>281917818
>>281917818I don't know but that show is terrible. Do you have a better example?

The industry settled on over saturating everything almost immediately after they realized they didn't have to grey-wash early digital anymore.I've given long winded technical explanations for why it started but it's tl;dr and no one really cares that much.
>>281917818Resolution. Before LCD and LED, we had CRT. Running a paltry 320p. That means you had to style your shit to make it look good at 320p, on stuff that was very quantized and low resolution. Which is thicker lines, bolder colors, etc. Once we switched to LCD/LED, we hit 720p, then 1080p, and eventually hit 2k and 4k. Color ranges got WAY bigger (both transmit and display). That means lines didn't need to be bold, colors could be be many more options - softer, more washed out. Closer to what the artist intended, not what they had to live with because shit tech. >>281918429Probably the intended color, top was likely selected due to limited color palate of the time that closely matched the vibe. If not, then some BG artist just didn't give a fuck when copy-pasting.
>>281917818>tactile>tangible you don’t know what those words mean
>>281923980I wasn't talking about that specific shot, though; it was more about 80s/90s anime in general.
>>281917818>Why was animation in the 90s-2000s much more tactile and tangible?I can give you that, but you posted an EVA picture. EVA is especially unique in those two aspects, even compared to other stuff from its time.
>>281920033It's not about looking good or bad. Your image in isolation looks like a toy. Stuff from EVA or other similar works from the 90s and 80s, on the other hand, looks like you could actually touch it. It's like the animation is giving you information on how it would feel to touch the characters/mechs/buildings etc, and how these things would react to tact and pressure.OP's point is self-evident to anyone who has watched enough animation, but it's hard to pinpoint the causes beyond the general digitization of all society making us gradually lose touch with meatspace.
>>281926468This anon gets it.
>>281917818>>281922631Happy Rei, best Rei
>>281917818<:|:|:]
>>281917818>Why was animation in the 90s-2000s much more tactile and tangible? It was literally made by hand. Through the subtle variance in lines, brush strokes, etc. you can sense this.
>>281924352>Yeah, I lost something. I lost peace and quiet. What do you need?! What do you want?! Can I not just live here, without having to occasionally deal with you broads?
>>281917818No
