The Canon ending is that Eren at the end had a meltdown caused by a power that was too much for an human mind, people killed each other because of this power, and the world nearly ended before of this power because a poor dude went crazy. Yes, at first it sound like this is my head canon, and the story don't write the things like this is the focal point, but is still, this is what literally happened.
