Anime is an inefficient medium that ultimately serves no real purpose outside of original series. Manga is not only more visually appealing and more plentiful, it can literally be consumed several degrees faster than watching an anime episode. The only barrier to enjoy manga is being able to follow panels, which as much as people don't want to admit it, is a skill that you can't get from just watching anime. In fact, anime takes away the core enjoyment of manga, because rather than the paginated panel-based structure being used to tell the story in a semi-linear format, anime instead only draws one image at a time to make things as clear and unambiguous as possible. This problem is only exasperated in light novel adaptations, which cannot support the depth of the written word without a visual analog, and so they are forced to remove the majority of content leaving only plot and dialogue.

So then why does anime even exist? One argument is that there are elements anime has that manga and LNs lack, such as color, movement, sound and accessibility. Except each of these things directly impact personal interpretation. Giving a monochrome scene color doesn't automatically make it more vibrant. Adding motion to a scene based upon action lines doesn't instantly give more weight to something like a punch. Music and voices can often feel cheap and designed to force a reaction from the viewer that wouldn't naturally arrive reading it on the page. Finally, despite how popular some anime adaptations can become, manga is still niche, and LNs are even more so, with some being diehard fans of series they have yet to experience in the original format.

Production pipelines necessitate that a light novel must become a manga, which then must become an anime. This means that a lot of authors go into the hobby to tell stories that will one day become anime. In other words, this means the inefficient medium is the goal. Fitting art into a stock mold is anti-art.

Manga is a commodity with little artistic value meant to be consumed frivolously during liminal interims. I don't have a train commute and If I'm going to sit down for dedicated reading I'll read an actual book.

Nobody in this thread likes anime or manga.

God you can just instantly tell this thread was made by a retarded teenager.

I have to agree, if you watch dragon ball the anime you’ll come away thinking it’s schlock barely above pro wrestling in terms of sophistication- but if you read it you can feel the blood sweat and tears of man who initially just wanted to write a goofy story about a monkey king turned in a space opera about the self worth of a man and how holding onto one’s childlike nature can be the key to saving the entire world.

I shed a few when Goku sacrificed him in the manga against Cell, and I had seen that scene several times over the course of my life in video games, the anime, fan art- and yet, the original piece drawn by Akira Toriyama himself was the only one able to draw raw human emotion from me, I had felt like my own friend died, and I wouldn’t have gotten that same gratificacion if I re watched the anime- maybe it’s just a personal ancedote for our kind but I agree with you OP- the manga is the author’s original work while the anime is their work in the hands of others, there had to be some integrity and soul being given up when that exchange takes place.

manga is much better than anime on average. there's a reason anime is often referred to as an ad for manga.

What was your aim in writing this (if you did indeed write it yourself without the aid of AI)?
