in the world of OP you have to understand that when someone's spirit or motivations are crushed they drop in power immensely, happened to Crocodile and happened to Moria. Will happen to Kid when he becomes an island boss in Two Piece on Mecha Island

The loss of his dear nakama broke his heart and spirit, leading him to lose his great haki and muscular physique whilst coping in the Florian Triangle with already dead zombies for a crew instead of a crew full of living people that he could lose and cause that trauma to him again. Moria was meant to be a showcase of a bad end Luffy that lost his dear crew at the hands of Kaido in the New World, a fate that was only avoided thanks to Kuma, Rayleigh, and the time-skip training.
