Apparently JNC are no longer licensing new series for the French line.Baguette Bros what happened?
>>281932442if i had to guess, shitskins and mudskins don't buy jp media
>>281932558France was the 2nd largest market for manga up until a few years ago. They likely realised that LNs were just a shit medium
>Pulp line dead>Dre partnership bombing>French line dead>German line likely next>BL line getting no buzz online>Now launching English originalsJNC has more failed lines then YP, 7S, Tokyopop and Viz combined. BL is free money now, how do you fuck up that badly?
>>281932442they don't publish them in arabian so french people can't read ti
>>281933025>They likely realised that LNs were just a shit mediumNo, it's just that there are no good new LNs being published anymore.
Pretty sure the French market is like the danmei market, they like physical media over digital
>>281934494Not quite they’re missing good licenses.Daken sensei’s works who’s becoming popular for example killed the hero was licensed by yen press, his other popular work monster meat was licensed by Cross Infinite World, lets see what else another GC Bunko’s hit Witch and the Mercenary was licensed by Seven Seas etc.Recent popular works have been flying under their radar for some reason and other publishers are really beating them.Lets see what else from already established isekai series they have Arifureta and overlap slop like that but frankly the other publishers seem to have better works.
>>281934855who killed the hero*
>>281934855Seven Seas has a Daken work too, The Wicked Princess and Her Twelve Eyes: The Legendary Villainess and Her Elite Assassins.I'm guessing someone will announce Goetia Shock soon. Can't see that staying unlicensed for too much longer.
>>281934050The BL series are DOA. The audience for BL LNs already moved to Korean and Chinese series
>>281932442Why read manga and light novels when you can eat a baguette?
>>281934482Sacré bleu!
>>281932442All of the LN series translated in France fail to catch up with their respective anime except for a few series like SAO or Boushoku no Berserk. Most people buy LNs because they want know the rest of the story but because translators in France often start their translation when an anime already have many seasons and because they are slow, they can't catch up with the anime 95% of the time. People are understandably not interested in reading LN volumes that were already published 10 years ago. Furthermore, translations are often put into an indefinite hiatus or they are downright dropped after a few volumes, fucking in the ass the collector in the process. Take picrel as an example; they started translating OregaIru in 2018 and they've only done 5 volumes since then. Who the fuck would start buying a series that would supposedly be fully translated in 2035-40. The smart consumer will just buy the English version on Amazon. Now that you understand why we barely have any people buying LNs in France, you can see why a subscription service to read LNs online like JNC Nina was doomed to fail.
>>281935363>JNC did no research on the French market, expected they would sell just because.>JNC did no research on the BL market, expected they would sell just because. They're probably wasting all the Apothecary Diaries money on this. German market next?
>>281935363I buy the French version when they're quicker than the English one or if I want a physical copy. You never know when a French publisher will drop a manga (fuck you Meian for dropping seitokai ni mo) or if they'll even bother translate the new volume (fuck you Meian, give us the new bocchi volume)
>>281935838>I buy the French version when they're quicker than the English one or if I want a physical copy. Why not buy the Japanese versions?
>>281935401>German market next?It wouldn't surprise me. They aren't doing much better than the french market.>>281935838>fuck you Meian for dropping seitokai ni moI don't think they've dropped it, they're just slow as fuck. Translators here often put one series on hiatus to translate new series. Catching up with the original release is not their priority. They'll probably resume the translation once the anime starts.>>281935867Nta but the cost of importation. Also I have some relatives who sometime ask me to lend them some manga series so it's better for my manga to be in a language that everyone can understand. I still plan on buying a few series in Japanese that I can't find in French or in English.
retard here is english JNC safe?
>>281932442LN market is dead in France. Manga is still thriving, not as good as before ok but still very good while LN never managed to sell. And to be honest fuck them, waiting 12~24 months for every volume of such short novel, they can suck my cock.
>>281936102For now? Probably.Long term? I doubt it. The isekai and LN bubble will burst at some point. JNC are taking a quantity over quality approach and licensing cheap shit to see what sticks.
>>281935867Because I still want a translation since I'm a dekinai (so glad to have wasted the last 10 years of my life not doing my rep). And like the other anon said, the cost of importing is too much to buy everything in JP unfortunately, when I bought the first btr album, the cost of importing was greater than the price of the product. So I buy digital when I really want to support some author.
>>281936514With their comments related to it at panels, it sounds like Earl and Fairy was such a disaster between its cost and length that it significantly influenced their licensing decisions going forward.
The future is chinese and gay
>>281936738They really should have chosen Maria-sama ga Miteru
>>281936656But you understand French?>the cost of importing was greater than the price of the productStill cheaper than the American prices.
>>281936514>JNC are taking a quantity over quality approach and licensing cheap shit to see what sticks.Though they kind of have to, anything expected to be a hit will be given to Yen Press so throwing darts and hoping to get the occasional hit before it takes off is a business model that makes sense for them.
Is Poison King doing well enough to push them to eventually get more softcore porn titles?
>>281936790They can still license decent stuff from non-Kadokawa publishers. To Books, GC Novels, Dash X Bunko, etc
>>281936815>Is Poison King doing well enough to push them to eventually get more softcore porn titles? From what they’ve hinted, no.
>>281936782Yeah I'm French, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with this godforsaken country. Yeah physical manga prices in the US are insane, it costs twice as much than here.
>>281936738>>281936763I still don't get how they could have thought Early and Fairy was ever going to work out with its costs, there is nothing about the IP previously that showed there was any demand for it in the West. FMP and Slayers ended up being profitable for them, because both franchises actually are well known despite their age.
>>281936763That probably wouldn't have sold well enough to justify its costs either, but would have done better at least. Probably could have also sold some physicals to people who read the fanTL.
>>281932442Competition in france over the manga market is too strong, thats about it.
>>281936927how many thousand copies do i need to buy to reverse the decision?
>>281939828>mangaYes manga. While nobody gives a fuck about the LN market, the publishing house (LaNovel) supposed to release Mushoku Tensei in french went bankrupt before even releasing the first volume. People who want to sell LN on the french market are just a bunch of retards who don't know anything about what people want and how to manage a business.
