Is there a market for retro style anime?
Like, a new series replicating the 80s-90s asthetic?

I'd say yes, but only if they keep the casual nudity or fanservice instead of toning it down
>>
It's not going to work. The important part wasn't the aesthetic, it was the technique.
>>
>>281932513
absolutely, it could even be an original series, people are starving for a (good) modern anime that looks like that
>>
>>281932513
People thought Kabaneri looked gorgeous, sure.
>>
>>281932513
Absolutely, but it's more expensive to make and anime it's all about commitees and soulless cashgrabs nowadays.
>>
>>281932513
No because only young people "buy" anime. Older foreigners pirate it. Womp womp, you voted with your wallet to not have anything you like anymore.
>>
>>281933443
>Absolutely
No, there is no market for it. There's people who would WANT it. But there's no MARKET for it. Learn the difference.
>>
>>281933823
There is a market. Megalo Box and Nomad did well.
>>
>>281933823
>There's people who would WANT it. But there's no MARKET for it
holy crap, I have never read anything this stupid on the topic of economy.
If there is a want, there is a demand, if there is a demand, there is a desire to pay, if there is buy and sell, there is a market
If you want to say that the "want" isn't enough, that it is just a loud minority, fine, impossible to discuss since there is no proper research on this topic, but a valid opinion to have. But to claim there is no market is just stupid

You're missing the point.
The people who WANT this are not going to pay for it, they're the types that pirate. There is demand, just not the kind that pays.
>>
>>281934315
and your evidence for any of that is...your butthole I presume?
Heck, by pure logic alone, that kind of show would be the most sold, because it would be nostalgia bait for old people, people who are used to buying physical media instead of just consuming everything semi for free on streaming websites like young people do nowadays.
>>
>>281932513
AI will do it easily.
>>
>>281934315
Reminds me of anti censor fags never actually supporting fanservice products kek
>>
>>281932513
Yes, but I literally don't think it would be possible to do now on a reasonable budget it would require teaching an entire animation team from scratch how to draw like that.
>>
>>281934457
he said retro-style and replicating aesthetic, not to do the exact same method.
OPs image(and the video it is from) is all digital, but it was made to look retro

To answer your question, I don't think so.

fucking retard
>>
>>281934315
streaming services already prove just how stupid your argument is
>>
AI can replicate retro artstyles perfectly.
>>
>>281935915
Does the average person watching anime on streaming services want retro looking anime?
>>
>>281935959
Yeah, in a single static image
>>
>>281935959
Compare >>281932513 to >>281934490
AI has a rough idea on how it should look, but it is still using modern digital anime for inspiration, with clean line work (and why is she using her ring finger to push buttons?)
It can't replicate the messiness of Korean sweatshop workers scribbling out pages and Japanese animators using erasers to try and fix the mistakes.
>>281932513
Anime is ultimately for kids and teenagers, and they don't like it when the show they're watching is the same as what their parents watched. It can work as a niche show but every studio is chasing money with the biggest appeal, which is why everything is an Isekai today

No. You didn't get 70s style anime in the 00s. You didn't get 60s style anime in the 90s. You didn't get 50s style anime in the 80s. You didn't get 40s style anime in the 70s. Your favourite doesn't matter.

I mostly read manga, because nobody is willing to put in the effort for traditional.
>>
>>281935959
I have seen it replicating Naruto in retro style but that shit isn't producing one episode let alone whole 12 episode cour like that.
>>
>>281932513
I hope. This new style sucks massive cock
>>
>>281932513
The GQuuuuuuX movie/episodes imitating 0079's style were a big hit, sure.
>>
>>281932513
tms tried with megalo box, the animation was ok and tms was trying to make it look retro, but that anime was fucking unwatchable cause it was just an inferior version of ashita no joe. you cant create a solid plot in just 10 episodes, compared to the oiriginal anime manga where the story lasted 80 episodes. also it isnt profitable anymore, modern otakus like isakai shonen neketsu romcons, back then there was eriko denshetsu, onisama e, ginga eiuyu denshetsu, cobra, gundam, baldios, terra e, hokuto no ken, initial d, area 88, that they didnt have anime cliches like power ups, power levels, lolis, extreme echi, power fantasies, poorly written plots

Not much market for Retro outside of where you're seeing these pastiches, in CVs.
>>281933390
Ironically Kabaneri has a lot of old school anime's problems for modern reasons, the cgi post processing they did was way too time consuming/expensive to include in every cut of animation, so they had to use it like old school limited animation. They could only really include it when they thought it was important for a scene. Otherwise Kabaneri looks like something else entirely when those effects aren't painted on top of the 2d art. And that's a lot of Kabaneri in practice even though it was a big deal prestige piece to the people making it.

If want what "retro" looks like right now on a normal tv budget, I mean Clevatess is airing right now. It doesn't look great.
