To be honest, I was a kid and only watching the anime that were airing on TV dubbed in 2005. Seen several of these since, but it was years after. I was just getting into Naruto in 05 after a steady diet of DBZ, YYH, Digimon, Pokemon, and Yugioh. My favorite from the year was probably FSN, since it got me into the franchise even though I later learned how butchered an adaption it was when I played the visual novel.

Kadokawa can recruit a writer from Narou, publish it under one of their novel labels, put a comicalization in one of their magazine, sell digital volumes on Bookwalker, release English localizations via Yen Press and JNC, have one of their studios animate it, distribute it via Niconico and sell the music via Media Factory. Possibly throw some game stuff in as well.
Other publishers are just publishers, at best they'll have a shop where they sell their own content and an English release channel because native English publishers are useless.
Some users also have a console warrior mentality though they typically don't know who publishes what.
