They gave it this Shakespearean-style upgrade, and the localizer was a guy who studied Classical Japanese Lit at freaking Keio and Harvard. It was a stars-aligned moment, and they even got English VAs with theater backgrounds, so the final EN dub came out super polished. It was so good that newer FF games couldn’t even compare. I’ve got a Japanese friend who was baffled that I liked FFXII, until I realized the Japanese dialogue is just plain and straightforward like any other FF/JRPG game.
